Mark Kercheval (November 28th, 2008) |
STRENGTHS: Good midrange and highs.
WEAKNESSES: Poor reliability.
REVIEW: I bought 4 of these to put in a Honda Minivan. Sound was fair, no real bass to speak of and within 1 year two of the four speakers main coils opened and only the tweeter worked.
I would not buy any more of these. |

STRENGTHS: Great sound. Very clear even when cranked up.
WEAKNESSES: NONE.
REVIEW: Awesome speakers!! I just installed 5 pairs of db650's in my boat powered by a Kenwood head unit and Clarion amp. They are crisp and clear, and look excellent. |

STRENGTHS: Stylish looking, Great price, are Great!.
WEAKNESSES: none.
REVIEW: I must say 1 of the best speakers i have owned. Im a system freak i had some 6.5's in my car they were alright so i upgraded to these and let me tell u best investment i ever did sounded so crisp and clear with my deck pushing 25rms watts to each plus my subs it made a perfect car system... i only wish i had a 4ch amp to really push them to there potential but i sold the car i did keep the speakers though lol. Great job polk. |

Edgar González (July 23rd, 2007) |
STRENGTHS: See below
WEAKNESSES: Nothing until now… hope it stays that way!!!!
REVIEW: I’ve had these speakers for about 6 months. I bought them after a long investigation on speakers because I wanted to make sure that the ones I was going to buy would really be and improvement over the speakers I had on that time.
Oh boy did I do the right thing!!!!
These are definitely a beauty!!! I’m a musician and I’m really demanding when I listen to music. These speakers are, truly, one of the best in the market. The price in these are just not proportional to their outstanding quality!!!!
I dropped them in the front doors of my 2005 VW Pointer and since they’re 6 ˝ they fit perfectly. At first I just had them powered by my head unit (a JVC- KD-G510…… which is 20 watts RMS… you know, just a third of the power that these babies can handle…) and I instantly noticed the difference. The first thing I noticed was more volume coming out of them than my previous speakers (their 92 db sensitivity really pays off!!!). The next thing I noticed was a state of the art tweeter!!! The highs are really clear and crisp!!! I didn’t noticed any “excessive highs”. The lows (bass) were good, not THAT good but pretty good for a coaxial speaker. I expected a little more bass but then I said: “Oh, well… you can’t always get everything you want right?”
2 weeks later……
I understood what people said here about “breaking them- in”!!!!!! These speakers get better after aprox. 30 hours of use!!! Well, the tweeters don’t (hey!! they’re already great!!) but the mid and low section of the speaker, the actual cone behind the tweeters, really improves!!! I was able to get really accurate bass from these little ones!!! Not the deep kind of bass that you get from 6x9’s speakers, but pretty close. (Obviously you don’t get the bumping feeling of a sub-woofer, or the low sustained end, and I didn’t expected it. I mean, if I was looking for that I’d have bought a sub).
In fact I was so excited with them that I turned the volume a little bit louder (just to vol. 20 of 50 available) and I noticed that my head unit wouldn’t take them that far without compromising sound quality (and maybe putting the speakers at stake due to a weak, unclear and distorted signal produced by it). In that very moment I got obsessed with buying an amp to actually get all the juice out of these speakers. Don’t get me wrong: These speakers will get powered by your head unit just fine and most people will feel comfortable with the amount of sound they produce, but if you are the kind of person that likes it a little bit louder that the average, maybe you have to take the next step…no, sorry, you HAVE TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP because otherwise: 1. You’ll damage these beautiful pair of speakers and 2. You will never know what they’re actually capable of. Truly.
6 months later…(today)
I finally got the money for an amp. I got a 4 channel amp (Kenwood KAC-8402 which produces 60 watts per channel, 180 watts bridged). I wanted an amp to match the RMS power of this db650 (although I know it’s ok to overpowering them a little bit, but I didn’t want to).
Oh my!!!!!! I have spent the past 5 hours sitting in my car listening to them! Honestly! And I’m still impressed by them... These speakers really deliver!!!! They truly need to be amplified to hear them at their full potential!!!!!!! Well, sort of, because I haven’t even turned up the knob volume to 30 of 50 in the same head unit!!!!! So I guess I’m only using 40 watts…. I wouldn’t be comfortable with more power, I think that my ears will hurt before these babies stop screaming and yelling for more power!!!!! So I’m just comfortable with that.
The bass is truly awesome!!! It can fill the whole thing perfectly!!!!! Now you have the deep bass feeling of a state of the art 6x9 speaker!!! What was laking of bass is now non-existant. On the other hand, I have to tell you that I also discovered what people said about crisp “excessive highs”. The good news is that they can be attenuated with the treble options in the head unit. They need to be holded back just a little bit. After this tweakings, the db650 perform AWESOME!!!!!!
As you can tell, I’m more than happy and satisfied with their performance. Now I’m eager to wake up tomorrow and drive just to hear my music again!!! These are really amazing speakers. Don’t hesitate to buy them. I’m really a happy customer (until now… let’s see the durability test when powered by an amp…I’ll tell you in a couple of months from now, If I don’t have to use the warranty they will take a perfect 10 into a lifetime rating!!!!!)
Thank you Polk!!!!!! |

Doug M. (June 17th, 2007) |
STRENGTHS: Great full-range sound for it's size.
WEAKNESSES: Audiophiles will want a big amp and/or subwoofer to go with these. (Also true of ANY 6.5" speaker though)
REVIEW: I bought these for all 4 doors of my 2005 Acura TSX. I thought they sounded great in the showroom, but once installed, they were way too bright, ear splittingly shrill. However, now that they are broken in, they sound great. Pretty impressive bass from a 6.5" speaker, though I'm still boosting the bass on my amp one notch. (I have yet to replace the stock rear deck subs, which should eliminate the need for that.) The Acura boasts 360 watts but that is for 6 or 8 channels depending on how it's doled out. Pretty accurate response, I can't detect much coloration on these, music sounds they way it should, no missing instruments. Really good sound at a reasonable price. |

Thun (June 14th, 2007) |
STRENGTHS: Bang for your bucks! see review.
WEAKNESSES: Silly speaker grill. Very fast and furious, but unsophisticated!!
REVIEW: I have had these speakers in my car for 6 months. They sound a lot better that other entry level speakers. The treb/mid range clearity/dynamic is above the average of others in this price range.
I would have prefer slightly better base respond. However, they are better that expected for a pair of coaxials.
I am taking 1 star off the db650 for their silly grills. Whatever happened to the classy grills we used to have back in the days? Atleast they better those from momo serie I guess.

STRENGTHS: Great range top to bottom.Super crisp and clear, with just head unit no amp.
WEAKNESSES: Havent found any dont think i will.
REVIEW: Bought a pair to replace Kenwoods in front doors of 97 nisan hard body 4x4.The kenwoods were good but the Polk Audio db650's are like day and night, wish i had purchased Polk speakers years ago. |

Brett........ (March 29th, 2007) |
STRENGTHS: lasted longer than any marine speaker ive ever owned, and thats 30 yrs of boating
WEAKNESSES: 4 years in the sun, rain, water skier shake off ect, not bad is all i can say, no rust on baskets
REVIEW: great sound out in the open. instalation is in a boat, and after 4 years i am replaceing with the same. have them paired with db690 and clarion 480 (80w) amp. actually puts to shame some of the systems people have spent thousands on... |

|
Todd Sheaffer (March 7th, 2007) |
STRENGTHS: very clear sounding speakers
WEAKNESSES: bass was not as great as I thought it would be
REVIEW: good quality speakers with good crankabilty and sound great the only thing I didnt like was that the bass wasn't that great otherwise they would have been 5 stars! |

Martin Gary (February 21st, 2007) |
STRENGTHS: Very smooth clear mids and highs. Punchy, clean bass.
WEAKNESSES: None
REVIEW: I have these speakers installed in my Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab (rear doors). They sound outstanding in combination with db690's in the front doors. They're very clean and clear. The bass is nice and punchy, not muddy at all, they sound better than the speakers in my home system! You can't go wrong with Polk speakers. They're a great value. |

|
Andy (September 26th, 2006) |
REVIEW: Outstanding choice for full range speaker to run directly off a head unit due to it's efficiency. Easily best sounding among 6.5" 2 ways in this price range (about $100/pr) IMHO, they sound alot like typical $200/pr components. Clear with plenty of punch, enough clean bass w/o a sub for non bass fanatics. |

KENNETH (August 3rd, 2006) |
STRENGTHS: CLEAR CRISP QAULITY SOUND AT A LOW PRICE
WEAKNESSES: NONE
REVIEW: EASY TO INSTALL AND NEVER HERD A 6 1/2 SOUND SO GOOD |

|
BERRY (July 7th, 2006) |
STRENGTHS: Great sound, great value, rich highs, deep lows. An all around great speaker for the money.
WEAKNESSES: None so far. The speaker grills are a little corney, but I left them off for my stock grills.
REVIEW: Wow. There's just so much to say about these. I have these hooked up to an ancient 2 channel 75 watt crutchfield. The only problem is that they blow my front 4 inch speakers that are powered off of my deck away. They are so clear, and are rich around the spectrum of sound. And don't think that just because they are 6.5's that they can't produce any bass. When I crank the volume, with the amplification, my rear view mirror shakes a lot. In otherwords, I don't need a sub. |
 |
|
Steve (June 8th, 2006) |
STRENGTHS: Great highs, mids, and mid-lows. Look good and don't blow after hard use.
WEAKNESSES: Need to be amped to get the best sound out of them and the bass is lacking a bit in the deep end compared to other 6.5" speakers.
REVIEW: All I can say about these is wow! I have 4 of them in my 1995 Corolla which won't fit in the stock locations of course but I didn't care. All I had to do was cut bigger holes in the front doors and make speacial brackets for the rear deck. The need to be broken in a bit for like an hour regardless of what anyone says. After that they sound like higher priced models. But I noticed my Kenwood MP4032 headunit wouldn't power them enough so I got them amped to 60 watts RMS Kicker amp. Overall, these are outstanding speakers for the price. Buy these!!! |

Greg (May 29th, 2006) |
STRENGTHS: Marine certified, shallow speaker, smooth highs, good power handling & efficiency. Also will fit most cars that come with stock 5.25s with no mods
WEAKNESSES: None
REVIEW: I have installed these speakers in a number of cars and have always been impressed by them. They have nice midbass and there highs are much smooth then many other speakers in the competition. They take power like a champ and the one thing I like the most is they are marine certified. I run 2 sets of theses in my own boat amped as well as I did an install for a neighbor with 3 sets of these amped as well and they get damn loud. |

Mikey R. (April 10th, 2006) |
STRENGTHS: Great Sound, Clarity, Hits well nice deep sound and clear at the same time
REVIEW: Great sound good quality, a good bit of hit for the size and if you amp it, man does it sound good. I am really pleased with these |
 |
|
David Anderson (April 8th, 2006) |
REVIEW: These are the best speakers for the price i havd owned most other big brands and they have come nowhere close to the sound quality of these. I also have blown ever other brand and have had these for two years and have yet to blow them |
 |
|
Kenneth Crowe (March 4th, 2006) |
STRENGTHS: Great clear sound. Not a lot of deep bass, but I want to keep my ears so I do not like bass that will jar the entire car.
WEAKNESSES: None.
REVIEW: I just installed these in the front doors of my 2005 Honda CR-V. Crutchfield's web site says they will not fit, but the OEM speakers are 6-1/2" also. Call their toll free number and tell the salesperson what you want and request a spacer set and the wiring harness. Fits like a glove. |

|
Michael Moore (February 23rd, 2006) |
STRENGTHS: Great highs. Great bass. Alright price.
WEAKNESSES: They start to sound distorted after using them for a couple of months.
REVIEW: I have had the db650's since I had them installed in the doors of my '87 Toyota pick-up at Circuit City in September of 2005. They were great at first, but I have started to notice that they are starting to make crackalin' noises now. And I have not even hooked them to any amp. All they are hooked up to is my Panasonic 5301-U deck that puts out 52 watts max and 18 watts RMS. I don't really know why. |

|
Mark (December 13th, 2005) |
STRENGTHS: Excellent mids to lows. Easy install, and can take plenty of clean power.
WEAKNESSES: Needs a real crossover, not just a resistor. Highs are too harsh for my taste.
REVIEW: These are my first set of 6 1/2 speakers in the doors of my grand am after upgrading from 4x6s. They sound pretty good at higher volumes, but lack all around at lower power. They definately have enough punch for most people's taste, but the highs are shrieky and harsh. They get to the point where I EQ them all the way down, which ends up muting the sound too much. THey desperately need a crossover to smooth out the high end. Also, they need to be broken in. These speakers sound very average until you put some time into them, and dont be afraid to push them, I've yet to hear them distort before my ears hurt. These speakers also have a tendency to sound cold and reserved until warmed up, when they actually sound like a different pair completely. Overall, the mids are a 5/5, but since I cant get the tweeter toned down, and there is no crossover, they get a 3/5. I will definately look at some higher level polks in the future.
My system includes a US-Amps USA-5600x (75x4) to these speakers, and a pioneer DEH-P920R source. |

Larry Sorensen (December 10th, 2005) |
STRENGTHS: Impressive and very clean sounding.
WEAKNESSES: Small terminals but it's better to solder the connections anyway, no big deal.
REVIEW: Installed the db650's in the front doors of my 1999 Toyota Corolla using the Metra adapters. Running db675's in the rear. I'm a 52 year old classic rocker who doesn't like rap and thumping bass that your neighbors can hear. These 6 1/2" do just fine reproducing high fidelity music, crisp highs, strong mids and just enough mid bass without rattling the whole car. Yet there's enough bass to rattle my rear view mirror. I have them powered using a Pioneer DEH-P2600 head unit with 22 RMS watts. No need for a amp or sub. They sound better than the Infinity Kappa 63.5i 6 1/2" 3 ways I have in my Jeep, which cost 3 times as much. The price for these fine speakers is unreal. Worth every penny. |

Chad Martin (November 26th, 2005) |
STRENGTHS: Punchy bass, crisp highs, very affordable and the great polk quality. Fairly strong grills that look good too.
WEAKNESSES: Tight fit, funky connectors and thats all!
REVIEW: I have 8 of these speakers in my wake boat and I am VERY satisfied! The sound is GREAT and the bass and mid are very punchy for a 6.5" at a very affordable price. I am also very impressed with the strength of the grills...as one of the speakers were hit with a wakeboard and the grill cracked but protected the speaker very well. $30 for a new grill and back in business. |

robert (November 21st, 2005) |
STRENGTHS: big bass in these speakers and there are very loud!
WEAKNESSES: none!
REVIEW: Wow! this is the first time that I bought the Polk Audio speakers the db650 man its super loud with a lot of bass. I am running with Kenwood Excelon 589 CD Player without amplifier and it still plays very loud. I am very impressed with these speakers going to buy all Polk Audio from know on! 100% kick ass product! Worth every penny! |

REVIEW: These speakers are a must for anyone on a budget wanting the very best. Very easy to install on my Honda Prelude with very crisp sound and great bass at high volume levels. |

wiley (October 14th, 2005) |
STRENGTHS: Very clean, crisp, loud, and absoluletly zero distortion. With my Polk mids and highs, Alpine Head unit, Alpine amps along with the pair of new JBL 10s...I can really crank out the sound. I hate distortion and with these I hear zero distortion. Not to many lowriders can play my Country as clean and loud as I can in my jacked-up truck! LOL
WEAKNESSES: I would rate both a perfect 5 stars but only I have not figured out one issue: Doesn't matter what genre of music is playing, at one particular volume I lose the crispness. Both fronts and rear at exactly the same time and exactly when my Alpine Head Unit reaches level 23!?! Makes me think it isn't the speakers rather either the amp or Head unit (both Alpine). Any Ideas?? Would love to rate these suckers a perfect 5 out of 5 if it wasn't for the one concern.
REVIEW: I installed a pr of these in a 02 ext-cab pkup along with the db460's in the rear door. I have nice Alpine Head Unit, 50watts x 4 RMS @ 4 volt of Alpine V-12 power pushing all four. Very clean, crisp, and best of all distortion free. I would like to have more mids but I am hoping a little more fine tuning on the crossovers will help. I definitely have room to turn up the mid due to the fact I haven't been close to distorion. Local car stereo shop did the install and was truly impressed. Recomend and Amp for sure but for the money, I have yet to hear a set of speakers that sound better for their intended purpose as do these. |

G-force (September 25th, 2005) |
STRENGTHS: Price, Bass response, Driver build and appearance(except ugly grills). Well protected silk dome tweeter.
WEAKNESSES: Should include adapter plates for certain applications. Beef up the wire terminals to avoid potential breakage.
REVIEW: This is the first PolkAudio product I've ever used in 15 years of car audio, and I'm impressed. Good quality product. Outstanding for the price. I'd suggest giving them 30 true watts RMS or more to get them sounding really good and clean at high volume levels. Perfect drop in factory fit for my application. |
 |
|
Shoeish (September 9th, 2005) |
STRENGTHS: Very smooth up midrange to high frequencies, plenty of midbass, even with six off of just deck power.
WEAKNESSES: Slightly tinny on the very top end. Funny (small) sized connectors rather than the standard size.
REVIEW: I replaced the six speakers in my 2004 Moomba Mobius XLV with these. I am only powering them off the factory Kenwood for now, but they are a *huge* improvement over the factory speakers.
I'm very happy with them and would buy again.
For Moomba owners, these are slightly smaller than the ones the factory puts in so you'll have to redrill all the mounting holes, but no big deal. |
 |
|
WestAurora (September 3rd, 2005) |
STRENGTHS: Punchy bass and highs. Clarity.
WEAKNESSES: I wish it had more wattage but for a 6 1/2" speaker they do a great job.
REVIEW: Installed them in my 2001 Subaru Outback and they fit great. I am really impressed at how clear they sound even turned up. Great punchy bass, mids are good and the highs are great. |

cj jones (August 24th, 2005) |
STRENGTHS: Great sound, better than anything in this price range--I've tried them all: Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, even Boston....I think the silk dome tweeters have a lot to do with it---most competitors use a cheap low-grade tweeter.
WEAKNESSES: Very tight fit, but it will fit on the Hondas. Cut the plastic around the bottom where the terminals fit through, then hold the driver in place aligning all 3 holes. Tighten each screw just a few turns until all 3 are in--then tighten completely with the screwdriver (if you don't do it this way it won't line up!! Trust me, it took like a half-hour to figure this out!)
REVIEW: Attention 97-2001 Honda Prelude Owners--these speakers will fit the front door speakers. It isn't easy, but just trim the plastic around the bottom of the cutout just a little. Also, when fitting the speaker in the cutout (it'll be very tight), use the included Polk screws (not the Honda screws from the stock speakers) and tighten them just a few turns finger-tight. Don't try to tighten one completely--the other holes won't line up.
Anyway, these are the BEST replacement speakers for a Honda's front doors--which aren't the easiest to fit. Civics are easier, but Prelude's are a nightmare due to the way the door's metal frame is designed. |

Byron Gross (August 9th, 2005) |
STRENGTHS: Play clear while cranked up without distortion.
So cheap, reliable, and super performance.
WEAKNESSES: None, I plan to have these for many years to come. My boys hear my car & burn rubber to Circuit City.
REVIEW: These speakers are super, high performance coaxials that live up to the true Polk Audio name brand that represent "The Speaker Specialist". First thing, these speakers beg to be connected to an amp; Mine are hooked up to a Kicker KX700.5(70W x 4 RMS at 4ohms to match the speakers perfectly) through a JVC KDDV5100 dvd player & they sound better than 'ANY' radios built-in amp. If you know how to adjust all your built-in eq's, amp if any, and any other accessories being used - you will have an amazing sound in your car. I have 4 of these in my 01 Civic LX SE, no subs & my car is heard from at least 160yds out & when I crank iy up 4/5ths of the volume you can't conversate while producing no distortion. The bass is 'always' tight & smooth, the highs and lows are so crisp; the combination to create ''SOUND'' is nice. When watching dvd's, surround sound beats out some name brand home audio setups. I put 4 of these in my brother's 96 Impala SS on the same amp & 2 Kicker 12L7's on a seperate Kicker amp and the blend of the bass & vocals match perfectly.
MB Quarts, Boston's, Focals, Diamond Audio's, Rainbow's & so on cost over $400 for the same performance & Audiobahn's, Infinity's, Alpine's, Pioneers, Kenwoods & more popular brands don't compair to The Speaker Specialist unless you pay more.I bumped these in my house for about 10 days first, then I accidently scratched & pinched them numerous times during installation. They highs sound more crisp, but play lower with bass blockers. I got these from Circuit City, the buy 1 get 1 1/2 off deal with the 4 year warranties on for both pairs. Not knocking down the MOMO's, but the db series are more than enough for me, someone who knows alot about sound quality & installation in home & car audio. Just under $200, worth every penny. |

rockin (August 1st, 2005) |
STRENGTHS: Good transient response, good imaging, clean smooth mids and highs.
WEAKNESSES: None.
REVIEW: Great sounding speaker! They are very tight and full sounding. I put these in the front doors and a set of 690s in the rear deck. The sound is very pleasing; no harsness, great balance, would definately reccomend. |

|
Adam (July 26th, 2005) |
STRENGTHS: Punchy bass (no need or subs if u run these through an amp) crisp highs, good response full spectrum
WEAKNESSES: even tho the speakers in my shitty 90 volvo station wagon were also 6.5" these didnt fit. had to cut the door apart lol. worth it tho
REVIEW: Great Speakers, punchy bass and highs are crisp even at very loud volumes (which are obtainable with AND without an amp) |
 |
|
Max Gu (April 9th, 2005) |
STRENGTHS: A wonderful clarity in the bass and sound!
WEAKNESSES: A minor improvement to my stock, bearly fit in my car.
REVIEW: A slight improvement comparing to my 1997 Honda Prelude stock speakers. I matched these pair with my Alpine 9851 headunit, now all I need is an AMP. These speakers are great! |
 |
|
Ray (February 2nd, 2005) |
STRENGTHS: Awesome bass, they actually move my pants leg, and the highs are sweet too. No need for subs to get the beat thumpin' anymore.
WEAKNESSES: If I turn 'em up too loud they can hurt my ears.
REVIEW: All I have to say is wow. Polk outdid themselves with these. Just installed these in my doors with DB 570's in the rear deck and JBL gto326's in the dash (woulda got Polks, but they don't make 3 1/2's). These speakers sound incredible. SOOOO much bass and they sound so good being driven only by my Pioneer 200w headunit. Would definately buy these again. |
 |
|
cammie (December 30th, 2004) |
STRENGTHS: crisp highs nice bass response the crossovers that are built in on this 6.5 does a nice job keeping the highs bright and clear at high volume.
WEAKNESSES: really this is a nice 6.5 for the money i highly recommend it for a replacement.
REVIEW: polk audio dbs are really good stuff for the money i have heard lots of other brands there is a lot of good stuff out here but polk highs are like none ive ever heard im all about sound quality so when i tell ya its good its good believe me the db series are great stuff for the money. |

|
iluvmud (November 17th, 2004) |
STRENGTHS: good value, nice power rating.
WEAKNESSES: not enough from the tweeters, no crispness..........
REVIEW: well i was hoping for a little more from polk with these speakers; theyre fine, but i own a jeep wrangler and i thought theyd give a HUGE improvment over my older system which was inf 4x6, cerwin vegas 5.25, I upgraded to polk 650's & 525's but the sound didnt improve as much as i was expecting it to.i wanted to buy 6.5 components, but theyre on "back order" so this is the 1st time i was really let down with polk; dont get me wrong theyre great speakers, but the highs werent crisp enough, i didnt have a good sound from the highs i was hoping for that and i didnt get it, but theye pretty good overall speakers i guess if you want crisper highs, you might want their components, or something else(theyre momo's sounded great too; but they were out of those too....really crappy!!!) ill probab;y exchange my 650's for something else SORRY POLK. |

|
brad larsen (September 28th, 2004) |
STRENGTHS: dont have hardly any distortion when turned up loud
WEAKNESSES: none that ive found so far
REVIEW: i absolutely love these speakers i just recently installed a whole new system in my car and bought these. i have a 1990 honda accord that has four of these speakers in it now and they sound beautiful even before i had an amp running them. |
 |
|
jose (August 24th, 2004) |
STRENGTHS: I luv to drive my p.o.s. car now polk is the best!
WEAKNESSES: none
REVIEW: I bought these at circuit city for 65 bucks a couple months ago and these rock. I power these with a 250 watt profile amp, and they sound extremely clear. They are built well and seem like they will last forever. For bass, i'm not sure because I have 2 12 inch rockford fosgates in the trunk with a crunch amp to them, but for great mids and highs you should buy these and add subwoofers |
 |
|
bruce (July 31st, 2004) |
STRENGTHS: Price, quality and sound where my big three reasons for choosing these speakers. alpine sounds muffled, infinty needed and amp or was just flat, jl too much money. any other brand from the three stores was just cheap stuff rockford fosgate did not sound clear and was not efficient (make the speakers sound louder with less watts.)
WEAKNESSES: The intrepid is a big car so here is was sounded good to me:
Highs needed to be adjusted down for my music taste to -1

REVIEW: I have a 99 dodge intrepid with 6x9 in the rear with 6 1/2 component up front. My Head unit is a Kenwood 50 watt x 4 rms 22 x 4.
Stock speakers distorted so bad after 28 on the volume. I would go to only 32 on a metal or rap tune.
I bought the polk db series and wow! The efficency alone make it sound louder. the clearity is amazing. and the bass is there for sure. I still want 1 or 2 polk momo subs and amp to really put some bass emphasis in.
I was concerned my head unit would not have enough power. It was unfounded, I am probably not going to put an amp on these. I like them just the way they are.
I will say I was displeased with the way my mp3s sound, I can tell between the cd and mp3s the I need to make better versions with more detail. The cds I tested where Police, AC/DC, Rush, 2live crew and some old dance stuff (80's)
I did not get the component 6 1/5 up front. I could not find them in a store (circuit city, bestbuy or tweeter.) so mine are the db 650
2 ways up front. I may upgrade the later to momo if I get a 4 channel amp and more bucks, but I am really happy with these speakers.
Momo would be the next choice for sure but wine taste an beer money is what I have. Total from circuit city $262 for 4 speakers installed because of a big sale. Excellent quality and even better price.

STRENGTHS: Great sound, especially mids and highs. Much better than the stock speakers and worth the price.
WEAKNESSES: Get drowned out by the DB690's I have in the front doors. Lack the bass punch of the 6x9 DB690's
REVIEW: Excellent replacement speakers. I used these to upgrade from the stock Toyota rear door speakers in a 2004 4Runner with a Scion Xb Pioneer 160w max CD-MP3-XM head unit. It really picks up the mids and highs that I was missing out on before. And in my 4Runner it almost sounds like I'm running an amp with a sub the bass is so deep. Excellent value for $50 at Circuit City with a purchase of DB690's for $149.95. |

STRENGTHS: Excellent sound overall: clear and rich highs, never piercing or shrill, deep, tight bass that fills the car with resonance, and well-balanced sound to allow for clear mids. Altogether very good. Who needs a subwoofer with these?
WEAKNESSES: None that I can tell.
REVIEW: I just bought the 650's with the 690's for the back speakers, and what a package! Having been so impressed with a recent Polk Audio home speaker system, I knew what brand to rely on for quality car speakers. The bass is full and creates an incredible impact, the highs are clear and precise and the overall sound is rich and crisp. I couldn't be happier with the whole system. I thought I had decent sound from the Honda factory speakers, although the bass would overload if turned up too high. Not a problem with the Polk speakers. I never realized how mediocre the factory speakers were (can you believe they were mostly made out of cardboard!?). I played several different types of music and they all sounded great. Violins are rich sounding, bass drums shake the car, or Baba-O'Reilly by The Who sounds better than ever. From classical to rock these speakers perform wonderfully. Thanks again Polk. |

STRENGTHS: outstanding sound quality. Give good punch, vocals and beats are clear as crystal.
WEAKNESSES: none
REVIEW: Great speakers... first ones I put in. The stock speakers were crap. These give great punch and have good bass even without a sub and amp. |

STRENGTHS: very smooth sound, handle high volumes without sounding too bright, fit well into my car (apparently Honda Accords do not fit many drivers well)
WEAKNESSES: umm..sorry Polk, but the relationship with MOMO is iffy at best..the "rim-style" grilles are really cheesy at best, even the db series suffers from this. please just make good speakers and don't try to be flashy
REVIEW: The db series speakers are a great product for the money. I initially purchased these as a second choice, since my car doors were too shallow for the MOMO drivers (without cutting metal that is). I have not been disappointed with my decision. They sound great. I initially was pushing them with my Alpine head unit and they sounded good, but since putting them on the Polk 400.4 amp, they sound amazing. I would recommend these to anyone looking for a great aftermarket speaker. A few of my friends have already followed my advice and purchased them |

STRENGTHS: Built in crossover is really great. Can be played loud without destortion. These speakers are very inexpensive. Almost any audio store sells them in pairs of buy one pair get one half off (Circuit City, Crutchfield, just to name a few)
WEAKNESSES: None
REVIEW: These are a great sounding speaker. I am pushing them with a 40X4 kicker. I had a set of Fosgates, and wasn't very please. I looked at everything from Alpine, Infinity, Fosgate, Eclipse, and Pioneer. These are by far the best sounding out of all of these above listed speakers. These are incredibly clear and have great bass response. These speakers can be played unbeleivably loud with no distortion and they stay crystal clear at loud volumes. These speakers are made to be played loud, I would recommend amping them to really let them roar!! |

STRENGTHS: Great sounding speaker for the price.
WEAKNESSES: The grille is not self-centering, which requires a little extra effort, but this is very minor.
REVIEW: Overall a great sounding speaker, nice fit & finish. Good mid-bass response, but these speakers benefit from a cut-off of anything below about 50-70 Hz, increases clarity, as they are not attempting to reproduce ultra-low frequencies. I also like the fact that the + and - terminals are very well supported, and wont snap off under moderate pressure.
Love that silk dome tweet !! |

STRENGTHS: Sounds great. Bass hits really hard and highs are crystal clear.
WEAKNESSES: None at the moment.
REVIEW: Just put in these speakers and they sound great compared to my alpine speakers i had in there. These speakers are a great buy, they look great and they're worth listening to. You should try them out for yourself. A pleasure for your ears... |
