Went to the midnight showing last night and I was definitely entertained. Lots of good action, good comedy and a plot that actually didn't disappoint. Sure it's a movie about people trying to be super heros so there's some stuff you just kind of have to go with and there were some lame parts but I loved it. There's definitely parts that make you say "OH!" Will definitely see again and will recommend for anyone who likes comic book, "teenage" (ex. Superbad), or comedy movies. Mix it all together and you get "Kick Ass."

I'm really dying to see this and I hear they're really not doing the movie justice with the previews. There also seems to be a bit of controversy concerning how bloody this movie actually is. What were your thoughts?

The controversy I heard about was that Hit Girl gets whooped up a bit. yeah she's a young girl but up till that point, she was doing all the ass kicking. I have tougher skin than an alligator so it takes a LOT to offend me. Yeah she took some licks but I had no issues with it. Even the good guys will get roughed up. And there's some brutal fights! I'm a fan...

I'm pissed, 'cause the only theater that decided to show this in my town is kinda' ghetto and not worth going to. Really wanted to see it... but I guess I'm stuck waiting for video.
The theater a mile from my house had large banners up for it last month... but instead are debuting two Christian movies I've never heard of. Bizarre.

Just saw it. Strange flick.
Not really a hero flick. Not really comedy. Not really an action flick. Not really that good. Not that bad, either.

I loved this movie. Just a lot of wow really did that really just happen and a lot of funny.
Some good LFE levels as well in the movie, but also it was a Sunday night showing and they always crank up the volume there.

Entertaining movie. It had a decent story line and a few laughs. They action scenes were great. I thought the little girl was excellent in the movie. She had all the best scenes.

For a low budget film, they did an amazing job really polishing it and making it highly entertaining. They also put a lot of care into the location sound making sure that the dialog was captured extremely well. The choreographed fight scenes were great and I loved the detail down to the earthquake effect applied when Nicholas Cage was firing the shotgun in the warehouse scene.

My daughter bought this last night, and we watched it.
It was pretty entertaining, and not at all what I expected. Some good laughs, and lots of action, and Hit Girl was a crack up. Yeah, she gets roughed up, but she more than makes up for it.

Absolutely horrible movie....11 and 12 year old girls using such vulgar language is amusing? What the hell is wrong with America today? Glad I only paid $1 to rent it. I could've got a Double Stack at Wendy's and been more satisfied for my buck.

First of all Bob there's no need for you to criticize me just because I'm expressing my opinion OK? That's my right to do so. I could either say I loved it or hated it and just because my opinion isn't the same as yours you shouldn't come after me. On another note, I watched that movie with my 4 year old son. Yeah probably not the best choice or anything but movies just don't have a lot of morals anymore...same as childrens cartoons.

1. No one ever told you you didn't have the right to your opinion. I have just as much of a right to mock your opinion as you have to voice yours.
2. I'm not criticizing your opinion of the m ovie, I realize tastes in movies are totally subjective. I'm criticizing your "What the hell is wrong with America" comment, which is not a movie opinion but a criticism of society as a whole.
3. The movie is rated R for language and violence and you showed it to a 4-year old. Entertainment for adults does not need to have "morals." MOvies these days are pretty honest up front about what they're going to show you. The rating says "language and violence." If you don't like those things, stay away rather than damning everyone who is an adult and DOES like those things.

Watched for a second time on BD and the surround separation was very detailed but the lack of sub usage in action scenes was disappointing. The background music had sub presence but action scenes seemed lacking. Just my thought.

Seriously, this is the understatement of the year. You let your 4 year old watch a rated R movie without at least screening it first yourself, and then complain about it?

I would highly suggestion that if you don't want people to comment back, that you wouldn't put that second part in there.
If you want to know whats wrong with America, why the hell would you take a child to an R rated movie, but then wonder when they use that kind of language? I'm just really highly confused because it doesn't make sense.
Complain about children using that language but then exposing your child to a film filled with it, as well as it already being disclosed that it has swearing by being rated R for a reason. Just makes perfect, logical sense.

I thought the movie was hilarious. Violent? Yes. Vulgar language? Yes.
Appropriate for young children? No. I wouldn't bring young kids to see it.
I must be demented. I chuckled several times while the little girl was slaughtering people.

Well I never took my child to the movies. We was over family and my cousin wanted to pop it in with his 3 year old there as well. To be honest I never read in too much about the dumbass movie because I never intended to see it so I thought it had a PG-13 rating. But I still think America is on a downward spiral and that's not gonna change
And you are at the forefront.
Sometimes you gotta know when to walk away.

I'd say society is more at risk from uptight crappy parents who don't know how to read a single-letter movie rating system than films that anyone can see or avoid based on their tastes.
Violent films, films with naughty words, and pornography have all been around longer than any of us and will continue to be long after we're all gone.

08-10-2010, 10:40 AM
Josh, Its ok to not like the Movie, just be ready for backlash when certain comments are made about society as a whole. I have 3 kids 12, 15 & 21, over the years Ive let my kids watch things that most parents would not, my kids know the difference between right and wrong and real and make believe. There is nothing wrong with this Country, just certain people.

I guess I'm not sure how a 13 year old girl dropping F-Bombs in movies is hilarious to anyone other than fellow teenagers and 20 somethings. It certainly isn't a positive development in our society.
I have as sophomoric a sense of humor as anyone, but just because the envelope gets pushed further it doesn't make the push funny. That's what seems to pass for humor these days, though, in lieu of any real creativity and wit.
I was exposed to Dirty Harry movies when I was 8 years old by my dad and I don't think I would hesitate exposing my kids to that kind of language or violence at that age either. Its stuff they'll hear and see eventually and nobody can put it in more proper context for them than I can. I didn't drop an F-Bomb in front of my dad until I was in my mid-20s. There was a time and place for swearing.

I liked the movie, the 13 yr old girls dropping the eff bombs was part of her charachter, a charachter put in an unusual position and a product of her upbringing to that point....an integral part of the story.
it just so hapenned the girl played the part well, and carried quite a bit of the movie on her shoulders.
I think the fact that a movie like Kick Ass is in no way the sole, or even significant sign of the decline of society. there are MANY other things to point too.

Damn, I love stirring up ****! It's very entertaining to see how people respond to hearing what they don't wanna hear lol :)
You watch a movie that's innapropriate for your kids age, you get told you were in the wrong, and you're the one telling everyone what they don't want to hear?
Apperently I'm missing something.
My wife would still be kickin my backside if I watched that with my daughter when she was four (she's 17 now).

LOL...you guys are so funny. I simply posted my OPINION ok....an opinion is not a fact or a statement but merely a form of expression or feeling and everybody made me out to be the ******* so I ollowed suit. I didn't purposely start a war but everybody escalated it to be that way.
And another thing we can bicker back and forth as much as you like, but don't ever talk about my kids
You're getting crap about your opinion because you were complaining about the content of an 'R' rated movie....that you watched with a 4 year old. Your outrage about the content of this film rings hollow because of that. What did you expect?
Just give it a rest.

I rented this over the weekend knowing little about it and not having read this thread yet. I saw a blurb from Ebert on my phone before I watched it that said something like "Morally repulsive". I thought ut-oh, what did I just rent? (A few months ago picked one of the Crank movies made it to the top of my Netflix queue, since I liked the transporter stuff so much, and I have to say, I turned it off because I found it totally disgusting).
I have to say, I thought Kick Ass was a very well done movie that I thoroughly enjoyed. I laughed the whole time. It wasn't like they were telling jokes, but seriously, half the movie was so ridiculous I couldn't stop laughing with it. It was like a hybrid of Spiderman, Superbad and Kill Bill.
I wouldn't let my kids 7 and 4 watch it for sure. I think the state of movies for kids requires careful research right now. I certainly wouldn't say there's a downward spiral occurring. I have let them watch a few PG rated movies (prior to there being a PG-13) rating and have almost regretted every time. I think, oh "bill and Ted's excellent adventure" I love that movie and then never remember the degree of language or innuendo in PG movies from the 80's very well. So many have hell, Sh*t, godd*mn or something like that in there. But that's my fault for not screening ahead of time. As much as I'd like to watch Raiders of the Lost Ark with them, I'm working on editing one with the scariest scenes (and some language) cut out.
But I am pissed that every pg-13 action movie includes marketing geared toward young kids, and I haven't seen one recently that I would let them watch. My 7 yo is upset that his friends get to see Transformers, Iron Man, Indiana Jones, etc. and he doesn't. I don't mind not taking him to the movie, it's just that the marketing and toys and advertising definitely include targeting kids under 10 for these PG-13 movies.
jawhog
08-23-2010, 02:03 PM
Oops, now that I posted it, it's long enough to be a rant....sigh.
Here's summary:
Kick Ass=good.
Old PG movies=bad for young kids.
New PG-13 movies=advertising should not be directed so strongly to under 10 set.

Ebert is so PC it's sicking, his reviews are a complete joke and one reason why I never, ever read his or anyone else's. His reviews are no better then anyone else's on this forum, he just a lucky break and makes a lot of money spewing PC crap about films.

I wouldn't go so far to say that. He absolutely loved The Devil's Rejects. And though he can miss the mark as much as anyone, some of his reviews are freaking hilarious.
From his review of Freddie Got Fingered:
This movie doesn't scrape the bottom of the barrel. This movie isn't the bottom of the barrel. This movie isn't below the bottom of the barrel. This movie doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence with barrels.

On another note, I saw it on DVD originally, and just watched it this weekend on BluRay! I thought it was great! Great visuals - I agree with a few others that the sub wasn't used all that much, but wow, my speakers got a workout. Especially the scene before the first fight as kick ass when the guys are running through the crowded streets. Every speaker was going nuts - very impressive I think. I know, cause any time my wife yells at me because the dog is going nuts, I know it's doing its job :)

The second clue would be the letter "R"
