I've been building my home theater in bits and pieces for years, finding sales and discounts, and before I knew about timbre matching, I ended up with RT12's in the front, an SRT Center channel, and RT/fx's for surrounds. I realize the front and center speakers don't exactly match, and I considered changing out my center to match my front speakers. My friend, however, says this would only be a downgrade for me. Should I bother?

Try looking for RT16's (for Fronts instead looking for another Center channel) it will timber matches your SRT Center. RT16's
uses the same tweeter (SL6501) as the SRT center. This will be a perfect match for your SRT center.

How much did you score for your SRT center? What happened to the Main Sattelite and the subs?

BTW, Welcome to the forum:)

I got the center for about $225, it was the only piece they had, don't know how they got it. I was stationed in Germany, and anyone who's been to military PX/BX's know there are deals to be had in the clearance section.

I am running the setup with an HK225, HK DVD-5, and Kimber Kable on the front 3 channels (you KNOW it's too expensive, and probably overkilll, for the rears).

For those on the "hunt," I have considered changing up for the sake of timbre matching...;)

Like that matters... what's important is whether we like you... ;)

Seriously, you will like it here... 99.9% good folks, lots of little pockets of expertice, and plenty of humor...

Was just in Newport News area a couple months ago. Ran down from DC to pick up an ebay win. Ate at Chick's Oyster Bar.... Place had a lot of character and good food...

Tour2ma,

Small world! All of my family is in the MD/DC area, I go up every couple of months. Next time you come down let me know, or maybe I'll look you up when I come up. Would be interested in seeing/hearing your setup!

Warlocks1,

I will be sending you an email here shortly to see what we could do (cue wife's screaming in the background)....
