I wished they believed I DIDN'T own a house
Hehe - while I may think the same -- them believing me right now means good things for me...
Ultimately means new bathroom for casa de la Trey...

With ya on that one, then I wouldn't have that 7 g's a year property tax to heft out. I don't know how it works in other states, but here in Illinois,a good portion of your property tax is for schools, with those who live in apartments, and send kids to public school, pay zippo. Well,at least for the time being,we can still write it off, but who knows down the line. Congrats Trey, btw, the pad looks to be comming along nicely.

My property taxes are under $900 a year (Delaware is great with lack of taxes) and when we were first checking out the house for a prospective buy we checked the school system and the crime rates as well as a few others thing.
The school system was supposed to be the best in the State of Delaware but alas it sucks. Same with the crime stats. This was supposed to be a low crime area but as it turns out, it is infested with drug dealers and low life criminals. Needless to say we're happy about the low taxes but after doing our homework on the topics stated above we are highly disappointed in the actual reality of the area. Sometimes you can do all the homework and investigating you can and still get the shaft.
Just an added note, I looked up the highest real estate tax paid in the State of Delaware and it tops out at around $1200 per year. That's for a friggin mansion. The Duponts and banking organizations that have migrated to Wilmington have made this a very low tax state.

My house tax at $4300 per year in Olympia, WA. and house tax value is 372,000. You can get prop tax relief if you are over 65 with a total income with SS and pensions under 35k per year. I'm 67 and total income at 48k so no tax relief for me.

We paid over 2600.00 last year on a house valued at 17500.00 Wisconsin sucks. It's like the fourth highest taxed state in the country. Blue state of course.

Your house is valued at 17.5K?? How is that. Are you living in an old RV? Isn't that grossly undervalued?

That has to be a typo as the friggin taxes are more than the value of the house.

Tony, they're paying property taxes, not directly but indirectly though their rent. It's factored into their rent, just as all costs to the property owner are factored into the rent. That is, of course, unless they are living in subsidized housing. Then we all are paying their property taxes for them.
