Hi guys,
Been Trolling here for a few years. Lusting and drooling over the greatest speakers ever made and now I'm an proud new owner of SDA-SRS 3.2TL's.
Still working out bugs and need things like the sda interconnect cable, fixing the grills, etc. I'm also searching the forums for help. I did have a couple of immediate questions though.
The left/right set up is from your point of view standing in front of them, correct?
Is there a way to test these? I mean individually test the woofers, then the tweets, etc. Other than panning right/left and turning bass up/treble down & vice versa. Reference CD's?
How can you tell cross over's working, individual drivers, etc...(I understand if this is too much to answer easily & rest assured that I am researching as we speak)
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Fatbrando

2.3 TL's I think a 3.2TL is an Acura.

Your placement is off by quite a bit. I have found that having 7 feet between the inboard drivers, 3 feet off the side walls and 8 inches off the back wall is about the best way to hear them in my room.
Nice grab however and congrats!!! You will enjoy them.

Nice speakers. I would def. upgrade those jumpers.
Yes the speaker are set up correct.
Move them around and experiment with placement. See what you like.
Def. get the interconnect cable. Lots of people make them here and e-bay usually has them for sale.

At least he doesn't have a couch blocking half his driver though. :)

Very nice score. Where'd you find them? Couldn't have been CL, as I'm a mega CL lurker and didn't see them. PM if you want, I'm kinda curious.
Thanks.

I'll gladly share. Craigslist in Henderson, NV. $350 cash. Drove from LA doing 120mph to make there before they closed....made it with 1 minute to spare. Said they had 12 calls and 3 walk-in's to check 'em out...I said your damn right for that crazy price...!!!
(side note - I've been watching craigslist for about 5 years now)

Anyone have the appropriate interconnect cable? I tried to go to Ben's site but it was down or at least it wouldn't open for me. Still searching the forum, just thought someone might have one they'd be willing to sell.

Me too, and I love them!!
Is your amp common ground?
As long as it is, you can use a plain old piece of speaker wire inserted into the round(pin) SDA connector.

PM Ben, he makes them. you can use for the time being a single piece of speaker cable.
All you need to connect is the Pin hole from each speaker and you will have SDA effect! It's like magic!

If you can put them on a wall, at least 15' long, they will sound much better.
As mentioned, you need to replace those jumpers.

Lol... sorry if I missed it, but are those paperclips?
I believe so.
Replace them with a couple small pieces of speaker wire.

So I can indeed confirm that the previous owner had used "Paperclips" as jumpers....ridiculous! Photo's are of my handy work on temporary jumpers.
My question is -
Does it matter which side of the speaker wire I use to make a temporary SDA interconnect cable? I've already split the wire into 2 separate strands. I can use either Red or Black, correct?
Thanks,

$350 for TL's. I hate the left coast.
GET THE INTERCONNECT CABLE !!!!!!! lol
The jumpers that you made will work but there really not much better than the paper clips.
It is a journey. Keep enjoying. Do one thing at a time. With the price you paid you are WELL above the curve.

So it's as if I've never heard music before. I added a temp SDA cable and these things are bringing tears to my eyes...
These are AMAZING!!!
They actually might TOO big. I thought I was playing them at a normal level and walked outside to the other side of a half acre lot and could hear them as clear as day...
Help!!! I'm not even pushing them and I've got a backyard concert happening...
I'd look into a real amp that can handle those speakers and some of the brightness should go away.
And so the upgrades begin... :D

I second that they are TOO big...you need to ship them to OHIO as you sit too close to a fault in the earth's crust. PM me for details!:D

Okay, so I've wiped them down with a damp cloth. Unplugged them, cleaned the drivers with a soft cloth sprayed with windex. I've left them unplugged for a few days to ensure they've dried out. The only thing I smell up close is a faint incense smell and yet I keep getting a whiff of rubber smell. Like the drivers are exuding a smell. I had to remove one top located driver so I could access the bolts to the top wood piece and DIDN'T smell smoke, or rubber or anything else inside the box themselves. Would this be coming from somewhere else?

The grillclothe perhaps?
Fatbrando
06-13-2010, 10:55 AM
Grillclothe stored in another location. I'm thinking it's dissipating with the windex cleaning. The smell is not quite so strong today.
Now my next question -
Is there a way to individually test the sub, the tweeters, the woofers, etc without simply bass up, treble down, left/right, ear next to speaker? Also how do you know if your crossovers are working properly?
My apologies if my newbie questions are annoying. I am searching the forum for these answers as well.
Thanks in advance.

There is no way to individually test the passive radiator ("sub" as you call it), since it produces sound indirectly from air movement within the cabinet (caused by the midwoofers.)
If you wanted to test all the crossover points, I'd say go find an mp3 with predefined frequencies. I have a few that go from 20 Hz to 200 Hz for subwoofer testing, but I'm sure you can find one that is broader in range. Something like 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz at whatever intervals you feel comfortable with.

Yes, pardon my faux pas calling the passive radiator a sub. Thanks for the info. I've seen those in my internet travels.
