They sure keep you on you toes to as if your eating out this weekend or is the money going toward a fri%%en car part and to make it worse , we have to fix it ourselves in the heat.
Ive had my horrer stories for 3 or 5 people's lives on the pos car pop-up problems.
#1 winner for..(BS laydown from the car) in my life I guess, even though I did drive it home, was smoke sarting to unroll from under the dash in the 2nd biggest intersection here in Wilm. Nc.
We were stoned of coarse, had to be! and then this happens.
Well I reached up under the dash and started to yank any wire I could and we were were moving slowly toward our exit ramp. When a couple yanks did stop the shortting fire, my friend thought I was 1, nuts, brave, someone to have along on future rides in questionable friends cars just in case. We drove on with no radio.....thats' what shorted out thank god and nothing else.:D
Happy ending to what might have been a ruin to alot of commuters at that huge intersection had it needed to be shut down because of my car stalling and blazing to a pile of black metal and ruber and glass.(pos).:)
May you all live long enough to experience stuff like that;):)

The comment about "vehicles being a bad investment" is untrue. Vehicles aren't an investment at all (well, barring classic / specialty vehicles that CAN be investments), they're an expense and should be treated as such.

Nice ride and about 1 year of payments left.
I bought it in 2007 "new" from the dealership, even though it had about 12k on it from being a dealer car. This netted me a rather large discount, which made buying it feasible.

Though from a looks perspective, if i must be honest, i'd take the StarQuest.
I would rock a StarQuest, but the first steps of the project would be something like this:

i do that stuff aswell. SOOOOO MUCH FUN BUT $$$$
did you do a big wheel upgrade on the Mk3 turbo? my buddy ported, cliped and did a slight upgrade on the wheel and saw a nice 30+ hp gain.
It's got a 50trim garrett wheel on it right now. Moving up to a 57trim when i get the time/money.

the good old 50Trim. 57 is blah. step up to the 60-1 and you will really be moving some air.
or get a nice billet wheel from one of the Precision 5557. i used to have a 6057 but upgraded.

It's a blend. All the black of the bike is carbon, the red is an aluminum composite consisting of 5 'elements' - they call it their E5 Aluminum. It's pretty neat reading about how there's no welding involved. They fuse the carbon fiber into the aluminum! Technology FTW!

overkill? na............
how much boost are you pushing? whats your comp ratio? what octane are you using? play with e-85 yet?

It's a stock unopened motor and i have no intentions of building it.
I'm pushing 20psi on the current turbo. I need more lag, but don't want to wait on a 60-1, nor do i need the ability to make 400whp+ in a fwd car.
I'm running pump gas 92. 7.8:1 compression, not playing with E-85 because i'd need to go to about 650cc injectors, and i can't do that on stock ECU. That starts to get too complicated for me to care. :p

Alright I'll bite. Everyone like to show off their baby once in a while.
1997 Volkswagen VR6 GTi (with mods)
GIAC chip
ITG (Induction Technologies Group) cold air intake w/heat shield
Euro Throttle Body
Techtonics Stainless Steel exhaust
Borla Stainless mufflers w/chrome plated dual tips.
Bilstein Sport Shocks front and rear
H & R lowering springs (approx 1.5") just right for the horrid Midwest roads
ASA 16" (BBS licensed) rims
Sumitomo HTR-ZII 205/50/ZR-16's for Summer. Used to have 205/45/16's but the damn roads around here made it ride to harsh.
Assorted Momo interior pieces (carbon shift knob, leather boot, drilled racing pedals, etc)
Alpine Head unit with stock speakers.
Stock rims have Bridgestone Blizzaks for Winter driving
It's in excellent shape considering it's spent all 13 years in a nasty winter climate.
No car payment, and it's just a point and shoot type of car. Handles on a dime and with almost 200hp it has enough grunt to be a blast to drive around town.
There is nothing like the sound of a WOT VR6 motor with a CAI and the deep growl of the Borla exhaust. My friend who owns a 2008 Mustang GT swears it sounds like a small displacement V8.
I love to rev and run WOT, it sucks gas like a hog though; spirited driving yields me about 16mpg in the city. Which for a small car and a VR6 is not all that great. With the chip I have to run atleast 93 octane in the summer.

Well, you gotta look at displacement and power difference, here. :p
I would need 650s if i wanted to do it on my current setup and find someway to compensate at partial throttle.
That number would be a bit bigger if i wanted to go with a full standalone to avoid running REALLY high fuel pressure. Right now my fuel pressure will approach 100psi at the rail. Most people aren't comfy with that, but hey, it hasn't died yet.

100psi? HOLY MOLEY!!!!!
i run a RR with a returnline and my base is 43psi. what kind of a fuel pump are you running?

Walbro 255lph HP. ;)
It's the big trade off to running a RRFPR, you start to approach pressures that the effectiveness of the fuel pump is compromised. I've got a little room to play, but not much. Wouldn't want to go much higher anyways, since i'd start to risk my injectors going static, which is never a good thing.
My base pressure is 28psi, then i've got the BeGi FMU set around 3:1 ratio, so at 20psi, i'm adding in an additional 60psi of pressure. It's not uncommon for me to tip above 90psi total.

im on a 1.1 ratio. your coming really close to the limits of that pump. did you do a rewire mod on the pump to up its voltage?

No, the HP is fine enough. The normal Walbro 255 would not have worked.
I'm closer to the limits of the injectors than i am to the pump for my power levels. It's all a delicate balance when you're talking about a car running on what most people would consider to be "hack jobs." :p

We'll see what the 57trim does... I don't need more power, just need it to come in later.
Doesn't the 60-1 use a different exhaust housing bolt pattern, though? I'm trying to avoid having to do anything but a 45 minute turbo swap job. (yes, it only takes that long :p )

45 minutes???
your SLOW!!!!
:p
what i would do is look on ebay or your local turbo shop for a used center section and have it rebuilt with the 60-1 wheel. if you dont like it just sell it or swap the wheel to something else.

Problem is my budget. I don't have the money left in budget to do it like that. It's either used on the cheap, or not at all. I have about $700 left in the budget, and i'll have to get a clutch and finish my gauge setup so i'm not running blind anymore. It's a GRM $2010 Challenge car. ;)
