Ok here we go... as many of you have already seen I need a receiver or a pre/pro to go with my setup and I need to get something soon so I can stop using my damn tv speakers. I want something new to have some sort of warranty included.

Here is the gear I have to be running with the new addition:

LSI15's and an LSIC
Adcom GFA-7500
PS3, Wii
2 Klipsch sub-12s
Kenwood Cd Changer
LG 47" LCD tv

With this in mind I need a receiver to use as a pre only and I have 700 to spend.

The following receivers are what I have looked at as possibilities based on price. So please leave any input in here you think makes the most sense. And please refrain from saying "buy something used" because as I stated I want some warranty or return options if I don't like it.

Marantz SR7002 - $600 from amazon
Onkyo 808 - $699 from newegg
Onkyo 807 - $679 from newegg
Onkyo 708 - $679 from amazon
Yamaha 665 - $329 from Newegg
Yamaha 765 - $399 from newegg
Yamaha 2065 - $699 from newegg
Emotiva UMC-1 - $700 from emo's site

I know it's a lot to sort through but, I know one of these would be a great option. Ive heard a lot of good things about marantz but if it's not going to sound any better than a $400 yamaha then it doesn't matter. What do you guys think?

I would go with a pre/pro in that all of the quality and R & D are put into just that stage. Why pay for an AVR when you are not going to use the amplifiers?

NAD although expensive new are superb. You might find one used with a warranty.

Just an after thought, you could get a used T765 whose pre/pro section is outstanding for less the $1k.

Add the Yamaha 667 to your list.

Alright, sorry for being such a bitch around here lately with my issues and begging for advice... I ordered the Marantz 7002 from amazon... 600 free shipping and no tax for a unit that was 1400 retail seems hard to beat. I will certainly give some sort of review after this thing shows up.

Wow that is a very good price! I think you made an excellent choice as well.

BTW how do you like the Adcom? I got the same amp yesterday and I am in love with it already.

Ive hardly used the adcom because the first receiver I got had an issue and got returned. I know it's powerful... because it's popped my breaker turning it on a few times already ;)

If it's throwing the breaker, you need to address that problem. That amp should not cause that to happen.

Take a look at the Pioneer Elite SC-05 on Videogon.

Anybody else find it odd that that seller has a lot of stuff for sale on videogon from several different zip codes.

I thought it was a big problem at first but after talking with the fiance's dad (electrician since he was like 16) he said that it's not the wiring but rather these new breakers that colorado requires. They have a "test" button on them and supposedly cause nothing but problems in the industry. If it becomes a persistent problem I will have to switch gear into different outlets but from what I was told it's nothing to worry about.

im thinking about selling my Denon 2311ci and getting an AVR with Pre outs for an amp.

im looking at the Onkyo 708, 808 and 807.

or just trade in my 2311ci and get the 3311ci

i bought my Pio-25 from Rand on Videogon.. very pleasurable experience.. I think he sells for a HiFi shop in Wisconsin IIRC.. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend him as a seller..

I agree, I've purchased a Pioneer Elite SC-07 and BDP-23 from them. No problems.

I drooled over that 7002 about 1 1/2 years ago. Nice beefy AVR.

I run that amp and much more on a single circuit. You should really investigate beyond what your fiancée's father told you. Surely, there are other Coloradoans running HT amps and not popping breakers. You shouldn't accept the situation as it is. Just my 2 cents.

From your list:

Onkyo 808 - $699 from newegg
Onkyo 807 - $679 from newegg

If you add a bit more for a great pre/pro, then Marantz AV8003.

I have an 807 that I'm using as a pre-pro but going to sell to get a UMC-1. So my vote is to get the UMC-1 and not pay for amp that you won't be using.

If you have enough amplification, the Emotiva UMC-1. Using an AVR as a pre only is a silly idea if you don't have to do so. The connectivity is and should be your driver for this purchase.

I know you said nothing used but the track record on pre/pro's is pretty high in my travels. You may want to check into Anthem...but regardless, you'd be solid with the UMC-1.

Yes they are a shop in Green Bay WI. Its called Hi Fi Heaven, however if you go into the store and say somethign about videogon they will deny it. However there is a guy that works there thats named Randy....

Not sure what is going on there but yeah, they have the same return policy as the store, 3 days, and all the stuff on videogon is new (as far as I've seen or been told). They now have a page on Audiogon under the correct name.

ehhhh with the UMC-1 there still has been some bugs with it. Soo if I was the OP I would do my research on what those bugs are and if they would affect my normal listening habbits. I do not beleive the latest firmware has taken care of them yet. (to my knowledge as there still has been serveral post in the emo forum that they are still having problems)

I'm sure you're familiar with GFI outlets, what you're describing is a GFI breaker.

There is probably a sensitivity adjustment on its face; if so, you need to decrease the sensitivity.
Might be a good idea, too, to check your outlets on that circuit. Outlets are cheap enough that you should replace any that look even the slightest bit funky.

I hope it is too, but some people don't always follow logic...sometimes its just the more I see I want, or others tell me to buy, so I buy....

Thanks for the help. I live in a brand new apartment building (1st to live in my unit) so it must be a sensitivity thing. If this happens again after the new receiver comes I will contact maintenance and see what they can do for me.

Used Sunfire Cinema Grand. They can be had off of ebay or audiogon for 800ish, they run cold and have lots of power.
