21st hole. On the other side of things. Last week I had sweat dripping off my earlobes. I often powder "the boys", but after a point it's like plaster of paris.

I agree with this point through and through.

My family, "in general", for as long as I could remember partied and had/have alot of fun together but never crossed the line where the children were influenced negatively in any way.

I would never do anything that would show my daughter, or any other child for that matter, that it is OK too act like a goof. It also comes down to how you handle your booze. I'm the type of drinker that I love even my worst enemies and am way more tolerant than in a sober state. I have never been a fighter or antogonist and am the extreme opposite of the antogonist while partying but many individuals are not like that unfortunatly. If I did get mean, angry, depressed or antoginistic I would not drink alcohol because that is just not fun and life is way too short. But if an individual does not lose what is important in life then I say have fun.

I guess my attitude and tendencies are a direct reflection of my childhood experience's which is when partying and having fun don't cross the line of obsurdity. If you do then theres a problem that the individual needs to address and perhaps should not partake in alcoholic beverages.

Its all about the individual in this case.

That wasn't meant to be a personal attack by no means,(i don't think you thought that either) BUt Dealing with a Alcoholic sister as i do and have for years *(as they say,off again/on again) I try my best not to get tangled in that web, I did enough when i was younger...

After i had a kid in 98 i decided to keep it to weekends and usually at Restaurants and outings.. Not to much around the house.. Kids these days catch on so fast.. My niece and nephew that are 12 & 14 both got caught drinking and smoking about 6 months ago, needless to say what sibling of mine kids they were..

Not to turn this into a Alcohol debate.. I'm not trying to do that. Just when i see people talking about drinking at ?AM and kids and such brings me back to what my sisters kids have to deal with. I'm sure that is not the case with you or anyone on the board that we are close to anyways ,,,

Anyways!!!!!!! It is FRIDAY.. and i do get the urge still.(beer). even with a 4 year old and 11 month old driving me nuts around here

People these days, that smoke or do drugs, honestly need a brain transplant. It makes ZERO sense to me, because you know the affects, and you know their not good. Same with beer, or any alcoholic beverage, you know what is gonna happen - at a certain point you can pass out and possibly not wake up. We may catch on faster but were still morons. Atleast I try to stay away from being one.

Smoking. You know the risks. If you smoke it's your CHOICE. Thats what America is about. The right for you to choose what you do or don't do. Same thing with Alcohol.

Demi,

Your blood pressure ending just struck me as funny coming after your "mini-rant." Actually I could not agree more on your stated personal responsibility thoughts.

I've had the opportunity to travel Europe a few times during the past eight years. One of the two most striking things in evidence there, that I wish Americans would embrace, is the expected level of personal responsibility. There individuals, and therefore their governments, insist upon it, whereas here, every opportunity is afforded us to avoid it.

If i read wrong i apologize, But where is your sense of responsibility?? Do you have kids?? would you want someone like you telling them nah its ok to drink and smoke.. you will learn beer is good..

what has this world come to, yes i have 2 kids, and although i drink, Do not smoke .. I will never tell them nor let anyone fill their heads that drinking is ok or cool, They can grow up, move out and decide for themselves...

this is also funny, we try and teach and preach to our kids that drugs and alcohol is bad and smoking can kill you, But here this guy is telling a kid who has if nothing else a strong grasp on not wanting to do these things, and you fire away at him,

Ok i believe all these people who try and make money from the habits they carry, ie: smoking, drinking, spilled coffee, missed/overlooked promotions at publix, are overboard.. they should stop that nonsense, it was their personal choice.. you die as a result tough!! you don't get paid for it, on the other hand these are not 10-16 year old kids who need guidance and training and certainly don't need people telling them this bull crapola.. Although Sid, trey or what ever his name is? I still havent figured that out, may annoy some of you and so on and i'm not the new defender of his antics or anyone elses..

try picking a more viable argument then drinking beer!!! I love to on occasion, but i don't smile of the fact that my 2 sweet daughters may one day becuase of comments from people like this, Ok my rant is now over.. don't get mad cause you all know i like to defend people and honor subjects i feel strongly about.. take me or leave me, i'm here to stay and this is what i'm about!!!

Where did I say that drinking and smoking were "OK"?

I said that people in this country need to take a personal responsibility for their own actions. I said nothing about whether or not drinking or smoking was GOOD. So nice try pal.

The risks of EVERYTHING these days is hyped. Be it drinking, smoking, what you should and shouldn't eat....ect....That was my point. IMO a 14 year old should have no concern what adults do under the legality of our system and if he does, which THIS one DID, I will confront him on his comments.

My kids will be raised based on the stipulation of the laws in this country and abide by the rules that I set forth in my household. Those rules will be clear cut, and they will have consequences for their actions. That, my friend, is a much more important lesson that filling their head with the B.S the public school system does. There is nothing wrong with telling kids that drinking and smoking is bad, but training them to be crusaders against it to advance their own socio-political agenda is nuts. My kids need to learn how to read, write, and do math.

Your comments completely misconstrue anything I've ever said here. That seems to be the nature of this board. I start a thread about the fact that this place is quite uninviting and it turns into some mud slinging fest for the boardies and everyone thinking it's about them. Read between the lines. Understand the point when the point is clear. You love to over analyze everything.

There is nothing wrong with anything that I said in this thread. I don't need 14 year olds telling adults that their behavior is "stupid".

Maybe you're blind to the movement, but freedom of choice in this country is slowly being taken away small fragments at a time...

SUV's, Tobacco, Fatty Food, Ect.....

I don't need government telling my kids what to think, nor do I need them wiping their ass with the constitution.

If you wish to continue this arguement go ahead, but I really won't quit on this subject. It's a subject for which I have a lot of knowledge and passion.

Vr3MxStyler2k3

Dude,
As soon as smoking, beer, drugs - enter the home, it becomes the kids business. IMO, and I think if you have children you should steer clear of them while you choose to do any of the 3 of above. This is my opinion, and yes, the school tells us they are all bad. But all 3 have their faults - and I dont want to run into any of them. I cant believe you are actually arguing with me about smoking, and drinking beer. I have a very solid stand point on this side of the fence, your not gonna throw me through the wood.

My Name Is Trey :D

Yeah yeah, Its not my right to respond. Dude, I really do know that it is none of my business on what any of you guys do. Trust me, and I *think* if anyone on this board can sit down and tell me, Do not smoke, i have for 35 years, its bad for you. I think they have problems. I understand they gained that addiction young, and i UNDERSTAND that is hard to quit. MY DAD SMOKES, he has tried to quit many times. I understand how much trouble is it to be SICK continuously as a baby because there is a SMOKER in the house. I know how it is to continuously STINK because there is a SMOKER in the house. Drinking, my Dad isnt a drinker, THANK GOD! Do I have much growing up to do? WHAT? I have a very high grasp of what that mess does.

Do you think, the school system filled my head with the above argument? Dude...that is my own ideas. I sleep during Health class in school. What the heck are you talking about? And yes, I know how to Do math, read, and write. Believe it or not. Infact, I am not quite sure on the reading part. But I am on the net all day. So I guess I can. Math --- 2+2=(whips out da old calculator), DUT DUT DUT) Ah yes, 4. What a hard one - I had to REALLY think on that one.

Live and let live. I got over my hard drinking a looong time ago. Woke up one day, looked in the mirror and was not pleased with what I saw. I still enjoy a cold beer now and then but thats as far as it goes. I've only gotten hammered once in the last 13-14 years. Does this make me better than anyone else? No... it just means that I'm cool with my choices. I don't hang out with people that drink to excess, it's not a lifestyle that I agree with, but I don't feel the need to convert anyone to my way of life. What works for me may not work for others.

Trey,

First of all you took this all too personally. You came into this thread saying that everyone who drinks or smokes here is stupid. That is your opinion, and it's also my right to respond. My response was quite a broad "rant" that had little to do with you, but more so to do with how we've pretty much all become a society of victims.

I'm not telling you what to do or anyone else, but like I was trying to explain to the guy with a hard-on over the fact that I was "telling a 14 year old that drinking and smoking is ok," is that you came into this conversation 14 or not, and interjected your opinons and I have the right to respond.

None of you may agree with what I have to say, and I frankly don't care. I'm secure in my beliefs and I'm not afraid to tell people how I feel. Trey's post struck a chord and I felt the need to "rant".

Yeah yeah, Its not my right to respond. Dude, I really do know that it is none of my business on what any of you guys do. Trust me, and I *think* if anyone on this board can sit down and tell me, Do not smoke, i have for 35 years, its bad for you. I think they have problems. I'm sure I'll get called harsh for saying this, but again, it isn't my problem your dad smokes. Thats the choice he made. I'm not going to say that he's wrong in smoking nor am I going to say he's right. Thats the whole point here. He's an adult who made a concious choice.

What does any of that have anything to do with you coming here and calling everyone who engages in this LEGAL behavior STUPID? Keep it to yourself if you don't want people like me to respond to your comments.

I think you do have a lot of growing up to do, but all people your age do. You engaged in an adult conversation so I'm going to respond to you like any other adult. If your replies make little sense and show a youthful ignorance I'm going to point that out. This silly crap about "bozo filters" and what not isn't amusing and it's completely nonsensical.

this is kinda what i'm talking about, people like you think the schools, the Government, the world is out to get you and your kids, they are all filling us and our kids heads with bullshit

so then home school your kids and move to the mountains away from "all the BS

Maybe you haven't looked around lately. This whole country is a flippin' nanny state. Kids & their friends can't go out and play anymore like you used to when you were younger, or even me.

"Ooooh no they might get a cut! And we don't want to get sued because of it happening on our property!"

I could go on and on. I think we've digressed as a society not progressed, but thats a whole other topic.

Anyhow, as a far as schools go....The public school system is mostly a complete joke. There are pockets of really good schools and pockets of very bad schools. For the most part they are all mediocre.

I should clarify though. It's not really the schools faults...it's the parents. The foundation needs to be set by the parents. The schools are there to teach basic funtions of life and educating them on practical applications....not how my son should properly put a condom on. Schools have unfortunately become parents as well and I think thats wrong. The government shouldn't be parenting kids....parents should. Thats the real core of the problem.

So, I don't need to homeschool my "future" children because they will be instilled with the proper values and morality so that the school doesn't need to push their agenda on them. Things will be done my way until they are 18 and then they are on their own. Thats the way it worked with my family and I and thats the way it will work in the future.

Thats why if my kids smoke and get lung cancer....I won't be trying to find somone else to blame. The blame will rest with the person who made the choice. If you teach your kids that smoking should not be tolerated at all in society...thats your choice, but I also don't want to hear a bunch of 10 year olds telling adults what to do. I can tell you this much. My kids won't have one puff on a grit or a swig of liquor without feeling the consequences. Hopefully they'll be smart enough to think before they act and won't even be dumb enough to try it. It's amazing how well fear works.

unlike some other opinions.. But oh well..

This is just completely childish. I was trying to have a mature discussion with you. If you disagree why can't you just drop it all together or engage me in an introspective look into society?

I thought your "bozo filter" was on. Wouldn't it make a little more sense to leave it off if you're going to keep replying to everything I say?

I hate to break it to you, but you really have little to do with the conversation. If you can't understand what I'm saying to you.... then it's your problem.

All I said about you is that you, at 14, have no right to call adults stupid for participating in a LEGAL activity without having to engage in linear thought by defending your point of view (which you can't, all you can do is apologize) when someone calls you on the obsurdity of your inane comments.

Is it a coincidence you seem to get into never ending arguements with a lot of people on this board? I think not. I think the problem is you. You do have a lot to learn, and one of those crucial lessons is knowing when to keep your yap shut.

I like to be the ending argument thank you. Yes, the problem is me! ALL ME! ALL ME! ME! ME! Why, arnt I so greedy today?? Dude, I have to read your replies (I dont have to, but I figure your gonna rant about the same thing over and over again, but I would like to see if you say something different or insulting. Its amazing how well you get baited in, infact ive sunk the line about 5 times already.), when someone is on your ignore list - it gives you this feature. "This person is on your ignore list. (Click Here to View Post)." Anyways, Russman is always drunk, along with the Evil Twin. They make the forum very interesting.
