View Full Version : Feeler
In approx 1 month... I will be making some of my own power cables... they are nothing crazy special but should definitely be an upgrade over stock cords...
12/3 stranded - heavy duty jacket
Will be finished in blue tech flex
two ferrite chokes (one on each end)
Hospital grade, hubble connectors (both ends)
Heat shrinked at connect point and over chokes
Connectors will be screwed and soldered
All parts, wires, etc are brand new - nothing is used or refurbished
1m in length
I will have 2 available
Price will be 35 shipped.
Thanks
Again, should be an upgrade over stock and I imagine right in line with Magic Power and the like.
Sorry for the double post - just recalcuated this...
I can sell these for 30 shipped. Sorry for the confusion.
Lead time will be approx 1 month.
I am basically selling these for what I have in them with shipping...
Not looking to make any money just looking to offset some cost! :)

Any pics available?
lol...
Unfortunately no - it will be a month.
Crazy I know right?
It will be 1/2" thick cable, blue tech flex jacket

But more of a dark blue
Hubble, hospital grade connectors

Kind of like that
Black heatshrink over the connectors to the cable itself for durability and aesthetics.

Will have a choke similar to that on each end for EMI/RFI reduction.
Will also be heatshrinked over.

Cool cool! :) Possibly interested, keep me posted when ya get them built.
Thanks!
Ill keep this thread updated.
Although the ultimate goal is to sell them before that time period.
At 30 bucks these are definitely a good deal, basically you are getting the parts with free labor. You cant build these cables cheaper.
I believe between a member here and a local friend these are spoken for...

If you can do them with a removable ground pin, I would be more than interested....I need 2 with no ground.:)

I'd like one, what length were you planning?
I need one with only 2 wires; my Sunfire amp only has 2 connection holes on the IEC plug....

Trey, are you making a few of these? If so, I'd like one for my office rig tube amp. Std. 3-prong.
H9
If I can get 6 people who will pay $35.00 shipped.
Ill make them any length you want up to 6 ft.
But right now I only had two extras at 3 ft...
If I can get 6 people to pay 35 up front, again guys I am making no money - just doing this to do it... so I am just doing free labor...
Let me know
I can wire these to a 2 prong connection, Ill just defeat the ground and let it trimmed back in the jacket unplugged. You can still plug them into a 2 prong connection and the ground part to the wall will be inactive

Ok, well consider me in, so you need 5 more people. When you get 6 tell me where to send the funds.
H9
Ok, thats cool - I need everyone that will need one to let me know ASAP...
I could technically do up to 8 ft for 35 shipped.
Again, 8 ft for 35 shipped.
And 30 shipped for these initial two that have already been spoken for.

Well if Kevhed and TNRabbit commit thats 3 more, so a total of 4. I only need a 6 footer.
H9
If I get more than 6, that is ok too - I just need to know immediately so I can place this order - the only way I can do this price is ordering bulk quantities...
So, anyways - let me know ASAP guys!
Thanks!
I'll go in for one 6 footer. Lemme know when you need the moola.

I would take one 4-footer if you can do that.
I already bought a MagicPower cable, it would be interesting to compare the two. And at this price it's a no-brainer, IMHO.
Keep me posted, OK?
Check that, make it two 4 footers; might make a nice Xmas gift...
We are up to 4..
2 more to go and we are good :)
Thanks

Might be interested. What 12/3 cable are you using?
It is just generic 12/3 man - nothing fancy... just stranded 12/3 you can buy by the ft at Home Depot/Lowes...
Really just to save cost, the ferrites will pretty much reduce any noise that otherwise would be in the cable. My understanding putting one on each end is the equivalent of having shielding.
To get shielded 12/3 it is 12 dollars a foot.

I'm in for an 8 footer.

I will PM everyone when I get home - but I am going to continue to take "orders" through the weekend and order on Monday
Thanks

Cool, I may actually upgrade all my cables while at it. Let me take measurements and PM you with a total. Not to over-complicate this, but can you do a C7 connector by chance?
I will not be able to do a C7 without dramatically changing the cost, sorry.
I could probably acquire a good C7 connector for an added $10.00
I did a quick search and I cant seem to find a plug that isnt molded - so that would be a no go..
You can adapt a C7 to an IEC
http://www.amazon.com/Conntek-30203-Adapter-Adatper-Connector/dp/B001XW4ZK0/ref=sr_1_cc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1287106261&sr=1-1-catcorr
PMs were sent to every inquiring party.
Once everyone has paid - all parts will be ordered.
Sunday night is the deadline
Thanks!
Im actually going to cap it at 12 cables (my guesstimated total not counting my previous cables)
That would put me at a grand total of 20....
So if everyone gets what I think they will this should be a good quantity...
So if everyone can get in before tomorrow Ill get it ordered tomorrow!
Here is a representation of the overall look...

Money sent for a 6 footer w/ 3 prong.
H9
Scratch the above post -
I will continue to add quantity to this as I figure the build time will be very low...
Also, if you get 4 - the 4th one will be $30.00 because at that point shipping will not increase.

Paypal and PM sent.
Im still waiting on payment from Nooshinjosh and VC69
Thanks!
Also, I will continue to take requests until Sunday night - so again, 1-8ft, grounded or ungrounded $35.00 shipped
If you get anything over 3 - the 4+ is 30 shipped
Thanks
So far I am up to 12 cables -- so wow, I am amazed at the turn out of who wants power cables, hahahaha...
So yeah - since I have already ordered supplies for MY cables, as it rolls in I am going to go ahead and do what I can with the lengths I have already cut.... and send them out to who I can.
Everyone else will just have to wait for round 2 of runs.
I can't promise those who paid first will get their cables first just because I have already cut the cable to the lengths that I needed -- so, bare with me.
Again, I am open to taking more request - so if VC and Nooshin go with it that would be three more which would put me up to 15, which is cool - if I can get to 20 that would be awesome... might even be able to get a further discount on the raw materials and possibly be able to send a few bucks back, but no garuntee!
Let me know folks! Let me know!

Money sent for 6ft / 3prong grounded.
Thanks dude!
Ok - I will not be taking anymore cable request...
I have purchased everything - again the lead time on these are approx 1 month...
So please be patient with me!!!
I purchased more cable the other day so whoever paid first will get their cables first and so on.
Thanks!!
Can you post an updated list? Just wanna be sure I am documented. Thanks again and I am in no hurry so take your time.
sure thing will tonight thanks
I have received everything I need for the first batch but the connectors and some .8" heat shrink...
Honestly I think the heat shrink may hold me up the longest on the first batch so everyone bare with me! :)
Alright here is the first try at these...
I might keep this one for myself as the wall end is not the prettiest as I used multiple pieces of heatshrink...
On the IEC end I used one.
So anyways - look at the IEC end to see what the final product will be.
Scratch that - I removed the heatshrink and applied a new section.
Looks great! :)
TN Rabbit's Cable
I am currently waiting on shipping boxes - so this will go out when it arrives
Here is Brock and Psolvk (Paul)
I am going to run every cable for atleast 2 days before shipping --
There will be one exception, ungrounded cables will be plugged in to test connection but will not be ran for more than a few minutes...
Sorry - but all of my gear is grounded.

Awesome--Thanks!
Following cables will be going out today -
Kevin, Harry, Michael, Paul, Brock, Gary
Note - the heatshrink on the connector ends may show stretch marks from shipping... I cant really avoid this - the material is very thick and can endure quite a bit but since it is so thick it shows grey abrasions like this.
Thank you all for understanding - and everyone elses cables will go out ASAP***************
These cables fit best with the material I had on hand. Thank you

The pix look good.
I am anxious to try them out and compare them to some of the power cables I already own (one SC, one cable that I made myself, and a stock cable). I think it will be interesting to do a PC shootout.
Trey, if you don't mind, I'd like to post my findings here once I test them all?
Thats cool.
I ran them throughout my system here and honestly didnt notice any decrease in anything from the MIT cables that were in their place -- except maybe a slightly higher noise floor - but then again you are talking "Make a power cable as cheap as possible" and $700.00 bucks lol

When do the rest ship?
I am waiting on the second batch of connectors and ferrites...
So - I will take a shot in the dark of 2 weeks...
I can crank out one cable in about 45 minutes so it does not take me too long...
Got mine today. Looks great. Thanks again!
There was a note from DHL and Fedex today - so both parts are "here" - I should have them in possession by this weekend....
If that is the case - the remaining cable will ship out Tuesday

Got mine Thursday, left it at work but it's home now. Nice work! I'll be trying it out soon.

Hey Gents,
All parts are here to make the remaining cables.
I was called in last minute for tomorrow to install new servers at one of my locations before Christmas gets here. So -- while the cables may not go out immediately this Tuesday it will go out shortly there after. While maybe still Tuesday - just a FWIW.
I appreciate everyones patience.
Brock! Glad you like the cable.

These are great, Thank you VERY much. I switched out a preamp, a br player, a sub, and a TV cord!
Any chance you want to do a beefy version w/ a 20 amp end for a 7 channel amp? ;)
