Curious if there is interest in this for us Midwest folks. I don't have the ability to host myself since I have a very small apartment, nor do I have anything close to any date in mind....

But thought maybe us Middle US folks needed to get together....

I would be happy to bring any of my gear, but I know there are others out their with much better rigs than I.

Figured I would start the topic and see what happens from there...

Nooshin @ HB27....looking to see if you guys have any interest....lord knows between the two of you I think you have just about all the speakers Polk ever made covered...:wink::biggrin::eek:

I would be very interested in such a meet / get together. I will be getting my first SDA's this week (1C's) and would love to hear the other things people have out there. I also have some amplifiers that I think some other members here would be interested in hearing. Maybe not, but I know I was :D

My attending would all depend on timing. I'm a single full time dad of a 10 year old son and that always comes first. Sitter's are short and expensive,
I have two girlfriends that are already complaining I spend more time messing with my audio gear than I do them. (it happens as you get older so love 'em all while you can)
I dont' like driving in bad weather as I get older, I can't see at night to drive, I hurt after sitting in the truck on long drives, work has me by the balls and can seldom get away, there's a couple of you guys I'm pissed at and would like to give you a black eye and IF I'm drinking it might just happen.
Hell, I just proof read this. My life sucks as it is. COUNT ME IN. I NEED THE BREAK

lol...totally understand the full time father thing. the fact your kid comes first is always always a good thing! I am going to be off the forums for a couple days due to the surgery but once I am able I will start planning more. Hell I have 4-6 weeks of recovery time where I will be on my ass all day so it will give me something to do to keep me occupied....

Might help if we started listing what gear we are hoping to hear...

Myself I want to hear a set of SDA's, LSi 7's or 9's. Any other vintage Monitor series would be cool, but I keep hearing how awesome the SDA's are so they are kinda top on my list.

Obviously would be more than happy to bring my Carver amp w/ me, although its a little finnicky.

That and maybe comparing some different interconnects to each other and or DAC's might be fun.....

Depending on when it is, I could bring the following:

Adcom GFP-750 (Will probably be modded/upgraded by the time we have the meet)
Modified/Upgraded Parasound HCA-3500
Parasound HCA-2200II
Parasound HCA-1500a
Polk LSi9's
Polk LSi7's

Don't really want to transport my Upgraded SDA 1C's....

Or we could just do it at my place :D I live in Niles, MI and would be willing to host, depending on the time... I guess it depends on if we could get some guys from chicago, Detroit, Ann Arbor, Indy.... I am central to all of those places....

I was thinking about your place honestly as I thought there was some interest from folks farther north in coming down and you weren't too far of a drive.....

But I didnt want to speak for you. That and I think your moving sometime in the near future (thought I saw you post something about that)

So lets tentatively set some of this stuff:

Date: Sunday April 3rd (weather permitting)
Location: Tentatively @ Nooshin's (provided that date isnt a issue)

Items left to be decided:

Time/Length (Want to make sure we have time to setup/not annoy Nooshin or his wife too much).
Gear
Food

I would be happy to carpool from my apartment on the NW side of Indianapolis (near the Pyramids) in my Jetta. That puts me able to haul 4 folks max and possibly some gear (no SDA's please :eek:). I am even willing to remove my subs from the trunk to make room .

Well I know Nooshin has SDA's of some sort, LSI 15's, an amp of some sort to drive those (lol)....and possibly those pretty custom 200 watt Carver tube amps he's been working on.

I have an old Carver amp (AV-705x) I could bring but not much in the way of speakers yet :frown:.

I know Matt (silvertuner) has some Altec's hes been dying to show off he got from HB27 as well as a tube amp.

i will certainly bring gear, its just a matter of "how the hell do i get it there?" i drive a s-10 standard cab short bed, i have little room available.

i will count myself in for whatever amps and speakers i have at that time along with interconnects. but the first person to laugh at the altec's i will cry like a little girl who just lost her barbie doll to her older brother that set it on fire using a magnifying glass while barbie was attached to a skewer poked into the ground so she couldnt run away bc toy story has taught us dolls have voices and are real and move.

on a lighter note, i promise to start laying off the coffee

I am personally open to other speakers besides Polks.

So now that we have a date set (April 3rd) we just need to figure out whose coming and from that figure out what gear is coming with them.

In addition a start and end time would be good.

@Nooshin: what times are good for you, want to make sure this is as easy as possible.

Regarding food, personally I could go for something simple like fast food or hell, order some pizza and have some beer/soda.

So start posting IN if your planning on coming so we can get a list started. This is open to any Polkie willing to travel to West Lafayette, Indiana area. So all you folks in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, ect feel free to attend.

I am good for this date and time. I am looking forward to meeting some of the members of this board as the only person I have met so far is Harry- who I have bought about 75 percent of my gear from. I can and am willing to bring any of my gear. As of right now, the gear I have is:

NAD 2600 amp
NAD 1300 preamp
Thorens 166 MKII
Klipsch Forte II which I just upgraded the crossovers and also the tweeter diaphragms to titanium a couple of weeks ago. I would love to hear these speakers hooked up to a tube amp provided I have not purchased one by then. A tube amp and CD player are on my current wish list.
I also have some Polk 5jrs if anyone wants to hear them.

I'm not 100% out. That may be early enough, it'll depend if this year's race car is done by then or if i've got another weekend of wrenching ahead of me.

The onkyo doesn't do well in a demo setting like that. It could use a refreshing and takes almost 2 hours for it to start to sound really good. Which is why i never turn it off.

So anyone not on my current list planning on attending? Trying to start firming up whose coming so we can start figuring out what gear will be around

@Silvertuner: if you still have your tube amp bring that since it looks like Indyhawg wants to hear his Klipsch Forte II hooked up to one (I forget of nooshin has a tube amp or not). If you want to bring your Altec's that might be cool too since I havent heard them.

Also if folks are coming this would be a great time to connect to sell/buy gear. So if you have some gear and are thinking about selling, maybe post that here and you might find yourself a buyer.

I personally have nothing on my wish list right now (besides possibly some speakers that start with a P and end with a digm).

if the amp is together i will bring it with me i suppose. its not a ****-ton of power remember that. it should be in working order, but may be a bare chassis getting cosmetic upgrades. and magnavox tubes unless nooshin has some 6v6 tubes he wants to give a try in it. still on the search for some mullards and have worried about other upgrades, saving them for dead last.

going tomorrow or monday to find a bit of lumber to start redoing the sides and front, and upgrading the binding posts, and possibly stripping the chassis for some serious cosmetics. wanting to find some cedar at a decent price and redo the handles since i f*cked those up trying to install them.

i will make it a point to bring it, but not too worried about the Altec's at a Polkie meet lol

I'd say sometime around the 3rd week of March we should plan out what everyone's bringing and maybe figure out the best way to coordinate it all without imposing too much on john.

We are right about two weeks out..so its time to get some things finalized (if they havent been already lol)

Food: What are we doing for lunch? Are we ordering pizza, going to a local restaurant, fast food?

Drinks: I am happy to bring some 2 liters of like Coke, Diet Mountain Dew, Sprite or whatever else as well as cups but need to know which soda's to buy. I figure adult beverages will be a BYOB kinda deal, or someone else can bring those if they want..

@ Nooshin: Do we have a finalized list of what people are coming and possibly what gear they are bringing? I know you have some deliveries coming speaker wise yourself.

Personally I am interested in hearing some interconnects to see if I can tell the differences between them. Thinking MIT, SignalCable Analog 2 and/or Audioquest stuff.

Matt (SilverTuner) might give me a set of interconnects to bring up to test, still working out details on that.

@newrival: Were you still planning to bring your A5's and/or the Swans you recently aquired? If so what DAC are you running them off of? I am interested in hearing/seeing an Audnst HUD-MX1, Yulong U100, or a HRT Media Streamer. Chances are your not using one of those lol, but if so if you could bring it that would ROCK!

both can do sa-cd. i find the playstation 3 works very well as a transport honestly, but that requires an external DAC, which you could actually do dan using the HK optical or coax, it has an "okay" dac in it IMO. however i did notice a big difference between my blu-ray and the oppo/elite when i got them. you guys can take them to the meet, and just have Jeff take them back to his house to try both on his set-up for a week or so and see how he likes them. these arent dedicated cd players, but i use them because i do have some dvd-audio discs and the oppo doubles as a dvd player in my bedroom (love the 1080p upconverting on it). if that sounds like a plan for both of you just let me know

Think it sounds like a plan to me. While the PS3 might work well as a transport, I am just not a fan of that platform on a whole and havent been since its inception .

If I was doing anything in the office it would be going from HK 3490 + Primus 162's to USB Asynchronus external DAC + KRK Rokit 5's or 6's.

With almost being done w/ my FLAC stuff (and a possible sale of one of my CL items in the works) I might be able to buy a single KRK 5 or 6 and do an semi comparable A&B test w/ the computer (Coaxial for the HK and 3.5mm to RCA for the KRK using soundcard).....

Both the wife and I sat down and pounded this out in about an hour, while she got to revisit a bunch of music she forgot she had. First time in a long time we just sat and listened to music together. Was awesome and looking forward to doing some more of that on the way to the meet and at the meet....

Had a great time today checking out the gear and meeting everyone, even though it was a small turnout. A big thank you to John for hosting the event and his wife for putting up with us today. Hope we can do this again soon.

I also enjoyed meeting everyone, and had a great time checking out the different gear. You guys are welcome at my home anytime. One thing we forgot was to take a few pictures! If you guys are up for next month sometime...

It was great getting to listen to a bunch of vinyl. Enjoyed hearing the LSi 15's on my Carver and also the Maggies. I admit it was interesting to note Jeff's NAD kept up with them much much better than my Carver. Those Maggies kept the red lights on my Carver dancing :smile:

Looking forward to the first screening of Star Wars on LASERDISC!!!!!!

Only thing that sucks is when I got home (after spending a couple hours in Muncie fixing my brothers laptop) I discovered that when I pulled the Monoprice interconnects off the Carver I actually pulled the gold plated RCA connector piece off the 4th channel. So for now its not running surrounds because I dont have time right now to open it up and attempt to fix it. I believe it totally broke the solder joint and needs repair, but I havent looked inside to verify.

I am also going to spend some time when I get home opening up the connector piece's on the monoprice interconnects because they are waaaaaaayyyyyy to tight on both the Carver and Integra.

I might even honestly just go buy some ratshack ones to hold me over until I get some SignalCable ones......that or go with the non premium monoprice ones. I have one of those and it fit in nice and easy...

Sorry I couldn't make it. I had something come up with work that I was unable to attend. If you guys have another one in the near future, I would love to attend and bring some equipment with me.

May 1st perhaps???

I will wait a couple days and discuss with the wife. Dont want to overload her with too much of the audio discussions at once :).

Heck my brain is still trying to process everything I learned and heard yesterday lol....

that and I have a couple ideas perhaps if that date does work out...dont want to discuss them just yet...

Wish I could've been there. My wife had a reoccurance with some of her issues last week and had to go into the hospital. Between that and being in the middle of a move has been trying. I hope another show n tell happens so I can make it under better circumstances. Glad to hear you guys had fun.

hope i can make the next one, but getting a house ready to sell, packing crap to move, spending time with the kid, and billiards seem to be taking up most of my time.

Wish you guys coulda been there as well. Lost my Vinyl Virginity  lol....

Also had some fun hooking up 20+ year old realistics that hadnt been tested since they were bought at a garage sale lol....

That and watching the red lights on my Carver dance when running a set of Maggies off of it were some of my highlights....

Being able to watch STAR WARS on the a Laserdisc player is THE HIGHLIGHT!

Got it all hooked up and gonna enjoy the audio nirvana. Now I just need it on blu-ray and I believe we will have it on all formats, VHS, DVD, Blu-ray and Laserdisc....Love the nostalgia of seeing lines and pixels from the S-Video. Also a test to see how the Integra passed the video to the TV via HDMI....

That and now gonna ask my Dad about his old turntable and then track down a copy of Star Wars music on Vinyl....

Johns wife was there ?? No wonder she's loading up the truck and moving to California, after seeing the bunch of you.:smile:

Glad you all had a good time. Any audio awakenings we should hear about ?

We decided the Maggies have better imaging and are better for relaxing and enjoying the tunes. The SDA's on the same gear are just as good, but pack more of a club punch and have a Cerwin Vega at a Frat Party feel. They get damn loud damn quick.

That and if your gonna get Maggies a good amp is necessary. My Carver had some trouble keeping up with them, whereas IndyHawg's NAD took em in stride.

**Note this is by no means a comparisons of the SDA's to Cerwin Vegas, but more of a broad analogy for those skimming the thread. John dont ban me from the next meeting as a result :tongue:**

That and I personally (wont speak for IndyHawg) was able to hear a difference between come cheap and then mid-range interconnect cables. Cemented for me the need for a nice set of SignalCable Analog Two's. Dont think its worth going higher than that given my current gear.

That is one thing I want to listen to when we get together next. I bet it sounds great. Just finished the first movie and it was GREAT. Totally brought me back to when I saw them for the first time. Gonna invite my parents over to watch it and pop us some popcorn next time . Two more to go sometime this week!

PS Find a way to get that Darth Vader helmet on display.....

Maybe exchange a Coach purse for that privileged lol....
