Hi,
I'm sure there is info on this somewhere but i can't find it.
I will hopefully be going to pick up a pair of RTA-15TL's this evening.
I've purchased polks that have been shipped in the past and had their drivers "frozen" during shipping.
Does anyone have any thoughts about transporting polk speakers by car? I.E. would it be safer with them on their sides or backs?
I would think on their backs so the suspensions can work as designed?
Opinions or thoughts please?
Thanks
Mark

Excellent! Thanks. That's what i suspected. I suppose i'll need to bring some 2' x 4's to get the backs off the floor as to not damage the passive woofers.

I would just move them on the side since the 15's have drivers front and back.
That's how I moved mine. No worries at all.

Backs. It is very easy to take out the rear passive.

thanks. great idea. i'm paranoid about magnet shift with all of those beautiful drivers on their sides.
I'll remove the rear passive and trasport them on the backs swaddled in blankets!

Thanks guys. I've always wanted 15tl's. I currently have SDA CRS's and have owned two pairs of 8tl's in the past. But i've always had a thing for the real wood veneer and those black lexan tops. Wish me luck!
One quick thought.... I would avoid any large or sudden temperature changes with them if possible. Rapid expansion and contraction and all that stuff!

Ha!...........I"m in Minnesota. We are actually getting a break right now. It'll be about 16 degrees F when i pick them up!

You are over thinking this. The magnets are not going to shift from simply driving down the road. Dropping the speaker might, but not always. Removing one or more drivers/PR's will allow the other drivers/PR's to actually move more than if you leave all of them in the cabinet.

Assuming you are moving them in a passenger car, truck or SUV, you are more likely to damage them loading or unloading. Of course if you fly over speed bumps and curbs all bets are off. Delivery trucks suspension is not designed for comfort.

So drive like you have a newborn baby in the car and you should be good.
Once home......do the JB Weld process to insure that the magnets stay put. Magnets have come loose while the speakers were being played and........just sitting idle too!

I bounced a pair of SDA SRS 2B's in the back of my truck for 3 weeks, because I paid zero for them, and they were fine. I literally would speed up for speedbumps and anything that would potentially harm them...potholes, larger speedbumps, tight turns, etc etc...you get the picture. Oh well, I guess everyone has a different experience. I ended up selling them on Audiogon, local and the buyer loves them....LOVES them with nary a magnet issue or complaint about performance. I checked them out before hand, don't worry I just think it's amusing overall.
Weird huh?
What a crock.
Yes,yes you are! Sweetcheeks:tongue: When the glue finally gives up the ghost, there's a VERY strong pull (magnet and steel, remember)! Seems like some batches of glue held/hold better than others. Stop trying to be such a know it all, show-off hemorrhoid Effie! Contrary to popular belief........you really don't know every thing about everything.

I've also never received a bad driver since 2003. Maybe it's simply packaging.
I've got approx. 75-80 frozen MWs with shifted magnets/pole pieces. (bought from ebay & Polkies) You've been very fortunate with yours so far!

75-80? Really? I sell/sold vintage Polks thru CL, eBay, AG and private and not had that horrible affair. One of you is doing something terribly wrong and my attrition rate is 2-4 ....sorry, you're doing something wrong on one end. It happens, no doubt but you sould like a factory. You might be buying crap to begin with.

GDB. You're not Magneto are you ??
Sounds like you have really bad luck. Never experienced this before and I have traveled many hours to pick up speakers with MWXXXX's before.
Sorry for your luck.

Not to worry, you'll still be at the top of the clueless f*@k of the year list next year as well.
75-80 bad drivers....Karma's a bitch, ain't she!?!

Well, while I've not had anywhere close to that historically, nor in reality, JBWeld them and move on with your life. GBD - I'd seriously figure out why your attrition rate is so high.

No no, I bought them already in their frozen condition, for cheap, easily repaired spare drivers. I hoard stuff.
