When light bulbs burn out.......why does that string thing in the middle break????????????

The lightbulb string is made out of tungsten metal. This tungsten filament is in an inert gas environment, argon I believe. The reason it eventually burns out is because the argon gas eventually leaks out or is consumed somehow and oxygen leaks into the bulb and then frys the tungsten filament...or something like that...

how many polk forum members does it take to change out a lightbulb?

My stereo sounds better with the lights off! lol! :cool: Not really, but when it is on, the lights flicker -- at loud volumes.
