I'm a big fan o prodigy (fat of the land is my fav), crystal method, if you can find it DJ Maj had some sweet bass in some of his remixes (you'll have to look for it at a christian music store the cd's are "full plates" and "mix tape"), I also like N.E.R.D both for the phat tracks and the mad bass that they have :D that's all i can think of atm but i'll get back if i can think of any more...
P.S. Breath on prodigy's "fat of the land" cd will have you rumblin all the way through town :D

I'm not big on big bass, although I do have a couple of 12s in my trunk I usually don't push them too hard. I'll definitely second Prodigy's Fat of the Land. Whenever I get into the Bass mood, I'll put it in and man it'll kick you in ass.

lol i have loads and loads of songs that really work your subs, they are all bass tests//competition bass tests, meaning they are just complete subs, no music and they work the full range of your subs and they sound AWESOME, they make beats and all kinds of things, many of the songs even feature illegal frequencies and levels because they are used in competition... so yeah... lol
knils
08-26-2003, 11:07 PM
my favorite part of the tests is when they do that wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeoooooooooooooooooouu uuummmm LOL where they go from the very highest bass tone your subs hit and just slide alll the way down to the very lowest you can handle and you really crap your pants its great! ....*crickets* lol

can i turn on bass songs for sound test like knils say? or is it too much for my idmax?

Stabbing Westward, 2 albums.
"Wither, Blister, Burn and Peel" Thier first album, track 3 "What Do I Have To Do?" hit the top of the charts for a while back in 96-97.
"Darkest Days" Thier second album and the first 7 tracks will really put a sub to work. Track number 6 "Save Yourself" also hit the top of the charts.
Stabbing Westward is an Industrial Rock band that is like a hard core Linkin Park sound. Defintly not for everybody and the lyrics are dark and brooding. The defintly do have an extremely heavy sound and will test any stereo. They came out in like 95-96 and have a few albums with the most recent being Angel, I think it is and it was released earlier this year. They have not reached the critical acclaim or popularity of the first two albums and it does seem to me that they still have the chemistry they did at first. They are a good band for test tracks though. Even if teh Circuit City guys like playing rap and hip-hop.

another good one is the complex by the blueman group... those guys rock... i like track 7 for bass but i can't think of the name and they have a lot that test the harmonic quality of you bass over the thump factor... ya gotta love that deep melodic bass underscoring a beautiful song :D:D

try the lil john and the eastside boyz cd "kings of crunk"......every song on there hits deep bass that mtx, memphis, eclipse, and bazooka just arent capable of producing. i have 2 of the momo 12 loaded enclosures with 2 kenwood amps that put out 460 watts rms and 800 peak(1 per sub). lemme tell ya that when i turn on just one of the polks that i blow away 2 memphis power reference series 15's. this girl has 400 watts each (rms) and yet again the polks shine over hers. also "can i get paid" the song by gangsta boo hits real deep. whistle while you twerk by ying yang twins pounds too. oh father by pastor troy hits real deep. do u? by do or die hits real deep too. for deep hard hittin songs just lemme know

One of my favorite songs to blast on my 15" Kicker L7 subs is daz dillenger *my system* non stop bass. Just make sure your subs can handle it you don't want any smoke :) (((In process of getting 4 12" momos)))

You want some deep bass try a song by ludicris, its called 'catch up'. it won't seem like much right away... but it will.. catch up. Or for more of a rock thing you could just try Lithium by nirvana see if your subs can make that sound real.

DJ Magic Mike for sure, circa 1988-1991. Also, this one may be hard to find but, DYNAMIX II from around the same era.
"Lower the Dynamite" is the **** by DJ Magic Mike.

try miss california by dante feat. pras. that one is pretty good. then there are the normal loud tracks like brass monkey by the beastie boys and i like big butts by sir mix alot. one of my personal favorites is hip hop by dead prez. all of them are good, but it depends on what kind of music you like. for rock i would choose crawling or numb by linkin park but any rap or hiphop will most likely have a good bass line for a set of subs
I'll second the daz dillenger " My System". Just be sure your subs can handle it!

Unfortunately, many of the rap/hip hop songs will have pretty bad lyrics, but they have great bass lines. however, i have a question of my own.....i have a sony xplode xm-d1000p5 amp with 2 polk momo 2124 subs in a q-logic type 2 sealed box and a pioneer DEH-P4600MP head unit. i had the first set of momo's about 3 months and then they blew. both subs were 100% demagnetized (is that even possible). i have no idea what the heck when wrong with them, but they both died. i got them replaced and the same thing happened again...except the magnets still had some magnetism left. then i got a set of audiobahn aw121t's. those blew in 2 weeks. i go back and my installer tells me that a set of alpine etype's would be fine and handle the 900 watts rms of my amp. i only had to laugh. i was back within 2 hours, and those blew during the breakin process. now im back to the audiobahns. WHAT CAN I DO??? im running less than 30% gain and 5db bass boost on the amp. the eq on the deck is flat with no "loud" button on. anyone got any suggestions. im open to anything. help me out!!! please!!!

this may have been mentioned, but The Complex by The Blue Man Group (yes, they are a band) has some extremely cool percussion. amazing variety - three different kinds of pvc contraptions, up to three apiece; a piano smasher; two full drum kits; two extra percussionists; a bass guitar; two electric guitars; keyboard (no synth); a turntable; some flexible pvc that makes whipping sounds like a stick being swung through the air, but still musical; and vocals. and a daschund (the dog; they petted it for a while and recorded that sound, to get that vibe; strange, but cool). and some other stuff they invented i've forgotten. up to 60 different tracks at once went into the mixing booth. ive been listening to it nearly daily for months and i still dont know it all. very complex, but also very musical lines, even in the sub range.
don't play it around people you know, it sounds like african tribal music from outside the car :D

There's this site called www.acidplanet.com which has free downloads to unsigned artists trying to get their music out and includes beats, scrathes, mixes, remixes, trance, techno, you name it. I have managed to find some sweet bass and trance in there that actually is incredible with lots of talent, not cut up tracks, but originals without the use of loops. Literally 1,000's of song titles to choose from and all free.

Well for good clean music I would reccomend (Chemical Brothers) or (Future Sounds of London) They are very clean, if they have lyrics at all. I have not had the pleasure of running FSOL on my good amp as it died, but I know that Chemical Brothers will kick serious trunk, and an amp or two lol.

Recently, I've found that my problem is that I have a cheap $25 sub on my computer, so I'll think I've found a song that hits low, then when I hear it on my friends good car system, it'll be totally weak.

If you get the chance, pick up some drum and bass or jungle. Its very complex and the bass is amazing. Drum and bass is slower than jungle and a little cleaner sounding-I recommend AK-1200, which you can find at your local stores. For Jungle I recommend Diesel Boy, this is the craziest music I have ever heard. You dont just listen to Jungle, it downloads into your head. On the softer side you might try listening to some house. I recommend Donald Glaude or Charles Feelgood. If you cant find any of these at your local stores just check the web. If you havent listened to a lot of electronic music before dont automatically dismiss it as repetitive garbage like most people do. Just listen for a while and you will learn to love it. Enjoy :D

I know it's off topic, but what sub you have on the computer?
I have a 12" sub that I built a custom box for to put in my fiance's car... but she doesn't have it anymore, so I use it on my computer system... along with altec stereos, and a dipole film tweeter.
That really enlightens one to what the music really sounds like, especially the dipole.
On topic: I'd also like to reccommend KMFDM and Rammstein, as well as Astral Projection. (in addition to Chemical borhters and FSOL)

Sorry for the delay, I saw this a long time ago, but forgot to reply to it cause I was in a hurry. I just bought a cheap pair of $25 speakers. I'd be lucky if it has an 8" sub. The brand is called "Acoustic Bass" However, for the price, they are the best dang speakers I've ever heard. They get pretty loud and the sub has some good punch.

that's ok... i don't always get to posting everything either...
I find the speaker sets with the sub are a bit too punchy... lots of them are ported, which of course we know to have a set range of good freqs. I built mine out of some MDF and gave it 1.2CF sealed, and put a cheap 12" R/S speaker in it.. Not sure of wattage, but it has great range... If you get really bored, try sealing that port, or maybe building a new, better sub for it, and dropping the electronics out of it and into a new enclosure (most of them have ALL the electronics mounted to the sub box.) For that matter, get a nice cheap 10" when you re-build it.
My system is probably the same wattage as my bro's creative 5.1 system, but his bass is TOO punchy, while mine is clean and acurate.

Funny, I thought "punchy" meant the same thing as "clean and accurate"... what's the diff? Anway, I'm too poor and lazy to swap out a sub for my computer. I've got too many things I want to do to my car first. After I get my dream stereo, I have to start with the performance mods. Cold air, dual exhaust, bigger MAF, T-Lok, eventually Turbocharged... I've got to start saving up :)

i think of punchy as having a little extra kidney-punch. on a freq-resp graph, that'd be a peak around 60-80 Hz. like some ported boxes, they're punchy. in my definition, at least.

05-24-2004, 03:37 PM
Agreed neo.. that's what I refer to as punchy too.. Heavy response for limited areas of freq.

Youve heard a L7 8? What did you think of it. Im seriously looking into one of these for its power handling and small box requirements but have got to listen to one yet. Ive heard theyre sloppy but have a whole Time Life Edition of output!
neomagus00
06-14-2004, 09:24 PM
i havent heard an 8, but the 12 i heard wasnt terribly clean, but it was damn loud; also, as a note, the models from a year or two ago are starting to show signs of wear on the corners of the surrounds (from what ive seen).

welllll
it was kind of on the punchy side, but truthfully, it sounded pretty damn good
if you could make the box to where it wouldnt sound so punchy, it would be a nice sub IMO
theyre not horrible is SQ, in fact, when i first heard them in a SQ car, they REALLY surprised me how good they sounded

06-14-2004, 10:45 PM
Cool.
the L7 8 says to put it in a .33 box for max SPL or a .75 box for max SQ. .33 is perfect size for my needs but I want the SQ. Maybe I can compromise and figure out a way to make it .5 and hit the middle of the road. I just like the 450 rms handling. Although I could go with a Diamond CM3 10" and itll handle 500 rms and fit in a .5 so...........decisions decisions
neomagus00
06-14-2004, 10:55 PM
well, in the boxes you're talking about, the powerhandling is gonna vary a lot; think about how much power it's gonna take to push the l7 to full excursion in a .33 cubes box vs. in a .75 cubes box - twice the space.

Darude...i bottomed my B&W sub on one of their songs with the whieeeeui things or whatever lol. i dont know the name of the song though, sorry.
try The Matrix Reloaded soundtrack, lots of bass songs on that. Rob Zombies - Reload, Paul oakenfold - Dread ROck are just two that will shake your system. the only songs that wont shake ur subs are the one by the dave mathews band ( they suck neway) and the one by POD. Everything else will sound great, and its clean.

Also Cafe Del Mar is a little off-beat, but sounds great in the house, so should be good in a car, maybe better.
