Gentlemen,

Roughly two weeks ago, I purchased a 27'' Samsung HDTV from Circuit City. I am incredibly pleased with it, there is however, one nagging issue which may or may not be related to the tv.

I have regular cable coming into the home. I've never had any real issues with interferance or picture noise, but on the Samsung, there isnt a channel that doesnt have noise. Some stations are worse than others... some are hardly watchable.

I've tried just about every option I could on the menu to no real avail.

Im considering the possibility of my cable signal not being powerfull enough for this television?

I have a tv in this room, a tv in my parents room (though it rarely runs), Two phone lines, and two seperate cable modem lines...

Could it be that I simply need an amplifier to strengthen the signal?

Any suggestions are welcome..

Cable is running directly into the TV or into a VCR? Noise is on the TV speakers, or something else?

Jesus......all the posts you have and you'd think that you'd know better than to give us anything less than ALL the details......Come on....don't be a dumbass........:D

Sweet, Christ, what is it that you like about it?! ;>}

This sounds like a job for 'simple diagnostics man' ... unplug EVERYTHING, no receiver, no vcr, no dvd, no nothin' .... then attach only the main participants -- TV & Cable -- and go from there. You'll find the culprit, and when you do ... you'll KILL it!

Brett, Loud

The cable is running straight to the tv. There is nothing plugged into it at all. (ie: vcr, dvd, etc)

Thanks,

Sean

Have you swapped your HD for a regular? That, without previous experience, would be my next move.

ATC,

Man are you snakebit or what?

Sounds like the Sammie's tuner may be having trouble rejecting other signals. I'd give Samsung a call.

Loud&Clear,

Not quite sure I am understanding your question correctly.

I have no intention on replacing my newly acquired HD for a standard tube.

If you mean to ask if I have switched between a tube and the HD, then yes.

On normaly circumstances I would be outraged, but this thing is so damn beautiful with DVD's and gaming consoles... Theres no way I can let her go!

Tour,

Come the following week, I may have to do that!

All makes to much sense.Your cable signal isn't up to par.Get the cable company out there and make sure your getting good signal. Why o why do you not have a cable box???Hello...does cable offer HDTV in your area?Even with a standard digital box, you'll receive a better picture on digital channels. Not all of cable is digital yeat but there working on it.
HDTV set with no HDTV signal.............man it's just like you not to have the correct gear..........when will you ever learn.

The other thing that could be at fault here is a poor ground.
What about the quality of the cable going to the tv,since this is the way you choose to connect it,is it RG6?Or is it older rg59?
What about splitters, how many are in line before you get signal to your set?

Project for you to improve your picture,re wire the cable right to the service entrance. If there is splitters all over the house, remove them all and home run all tv feeds to one location. Then you may need an amp.A however many way splitter of highest quality will send the signal to each tv with best results. The more ways the less signal..........make sense?

Cable is stupid simple. From the feed to the house to the feed to your tv needs to be the shortest and highest quality possible.

Sounds like a bad tuner to me.

Dan,

Woah there hoss... Your suggestions have been noted and I thank you for taking the time to write them, but ease up on that attitude eh?

I am no video freak, the noise is an inconvience yes, but I am not into tv picture quality as much as others may be. So long as my DVD's look killer...

What is perplexing me is this 20 inch Magnavox had an excellent picture, no, and I mean absolutely no picture noise at all.

This is leading me to lean more towards the television. But I will not discount what you have said.

Will keep you gents updated.

Thanks,

Sean

Have you tried comparing the difference in your receptions from the cable directly into your tv vs having your cable run through your vcr's (tuner)?. I find that my vcr tuner has a little better reception/ pic quality than my tv?

I hope your problem will be solved soon!!!

i have the exact same problem with my sony wega, channels are fuzzy some worse then others...my cable internet also wouldnt work from my room because of my shitty signal

try this atc it helped me alittle,
unscrew the main connection, the one going directly into your house, gently steel wool the connections and the pin...reattch and see how that works

also if you have tons of splitters? that will affect it...try getting a signal booster if your tv is too far away from the main line

check the quality of ur wire and splitters? if they are ratchack then theres your problem. ratshack makes horrible rf coaxial cable, ive heard it from many different people, including my cable service, try HD for better quality wire

you arent talking about the porn channels you didnt order and are trying to watch are you? or course those are gonna be fuzzy but every now and then ull be able to make sumthin out.

:p

hope this helped

I have similar issue also. When they ran my cable line I had them install the good stuff, and I ran AR coaxial from entry of the house to every TV. I still have grainy channels. Was it better than before? Yes.

My problem is simply my cable company, they do not broadcast everything in digital. My local stations are grainy, pay channels are clean and sharp. There is nothing I can do, signal strength is coming in hot to my house, and that's just the way it goes.

This doesn't help at all, but I know what you are talking about.

ATC,
sorry but not in the right frame of mind as of late.........

get the signal checked out by the cable company,it's harder to see interference on a 20 as to a 27.The smaller screen looks tighter. It very well could be a bad TV,it's rare but possible.Sinse it's a brand new tv,try a different line, take it to another feed in the house.

After all my attitude, try all my suggestions, you'll fix it no problem, and hey,GET A DAMN CABLE BOX WOULD YEAH......:p

ATC,

I had a similar problem about a year ago. I have a cable modem for the internet as well. This is what I did. I went upstairs in my attic and mapped out how my cable was being fed to the house. Numerous splitters and stuff. Some splitters are designed for digital tv and only cost a few dollars more and thats what I installed. I also made sure that I was running RG6 cable to my tv sets. Minimize the number of splits to your tv and use the RG6 and things should improve. Another thing is to have the cable company check your signal strength in the house as Mantis has recommended. Too many splits and your signal goes down and internet hookup speed decreases as well.

ATC, it's the tv man. Sorry to the bearer of bad news. I took a look at it today at work. We normally leave any HD sets on the hd feeds, and the Samsung 27" looked fine (not real high res, but fine for a tv that size). Then I flipped it over to analog and compared to the other tv's. The picture was just a train wreck. It was bad. I would not be able to watch it. I asked one of the tv guys about it and he said that the problem was from the comb filter they used. He said if you would get a cable box and use the s-video output, it should make a pretty substantial improvement. Hope that helps!

I believe its a mixture of both, gentlemen.

Even the television downstairs seems to be a bit fuzzy. Will investigate further with the suggestions you guys have given me!

Fire,

Ah well, if thats the case than I will just have to live with it. Sucks. This tv has pushed my svs sub back a few months... at least its dvd picture is on par.

Thanks for all the info guys, Im learning a bit through this thread.. Ive never once dabbled in video...

Sean

I'm with Mantis on this one. The connection to the main box outside is usually not grounded properly. This may or may not be the case. Most cable boxes have built in line doublers and if your new set has this feature, you’re essentially over sampling the signal into garbage. Check your TV's system menu and see if there is an option for turning this filter off. I had the same problem with my big screen and it did have the option to toggle it off and the picture quality did improve. Cable does have bandwidth issues with certain channels and there's nothing you can do about it. This is where satellite shines with its more consistent channel bandwidth. Congrats on the new set, Enjoy!!!!!! :)

I had a similar problem when I got my 61" HD. Some stations were so fuzzy you couldn't even watch them, but the old TV in the bedroom was fine. The problem was the main connection outside was a LITTLE loose. I disconnected and reconnected and everything has been fine since.

This might not be an option. But you probably won't have any probs if you switch to satellite and go w/ all RG-6 quad shield cable. Have you tried a line conditioner too?

Gentlemen,

Will be calling Cox within a few days to get some things checked out.

Tonight I will exchange my tv for another one. Spoke to some of the people there, noticed the image was much sharper in the store, for both regular coax and dvd....

Thanks for all your advise and suggestions guys!

Regards,

Sean
