well guys i finally got my new receiver. no more aiwa for me. i know i should write a review for it but honestly im way way too lazy to give u a full blown review, so instead of listing givens liek it sounds good, bass is good, blah blah blah, ill just list the things that stick out ok? and then if ya want more ill answer any questions or whatever lol
1st off this thing is one heavy mother fker...50 lbs. that makes me happy to be able to say it weighs so much, dumb i know but still.
next on the list is the extensive amounts of ins and outs, atleast they are extensive to me. this thing has more ins and outs then i will ever need to use. a composite and s video hook up for each of the 7 video sources, and 2 compnnent ins and 1 component out. enough said about that, if u want to see the back go to www.marantz.com and look lol.
the remote on this bad boy is one of the coolest things in the world. i have already programmed it for the TV and the DVD player. it was very very easy to program, no entering codes or any of that bullshit. at first it was confusing, but then i decided to read the manual. after that everything was crystal clear.
some things i am very disappointed with are the binding posts...they are cheesy plastic and i could not fit 12 ga wire through, i dont know if thats because im a retard or because they just plain suck. i ended up switching my speaker wire around so i could have my banna plugs on my receiver instead of speakers. if you get one of these, make sure you get banna plugs, you will be thankful you did. another thing i didnt like is the way the voulme is setup, its like my aiwa. the difference between -60 and -59 is alot smaller then the difference between -10 and -9. i would like it to be "linear" i think is the term instead of having it like this. a minor detail however.
there is a nice protection mode feature that turns the receiver off if there is too much distortion. i will now be getting rid of all the POS 128 kb/s mp3s i have, they make it turn off too quick. i like the feature though, and i have now decided im going to start buying cds again.
105 wpc...very nice, very big improvement from the aiwa which was 70 to the mains in surround and 50 to the center...the aiwa was rated at 100 wpc in stereo mode but i highly doubt that. as some of you know i own rti150s, and as all of you should know, they are some beasts to power. now im not going to say my marantz owns these speakers and can power them with 1 hand behind its back, but it does a good enough job for me to go wow. it is definetely not skimpy in the power department. argue it all you want but for $551 shipped, this was a killer deal.
somewhat old fashioned looking but thats just the front, and besides i dont like flashing lights. it even has this nice little option that allows me to turn the display off instead of just dimming it. no source knob, all the sources have buttons on the front. there are enough suround options to sink a ship on this thing. i wont even bother listing them all but they include your basic DD and DTS, circle surround, 6.1 6 channel stereo PL and stereo.
edit: heres the back for everyone to gander at http://www.marantz.com/p_product_alt.cfm?id=585&cont=u&img_ext=bck
questions? comments? death threats?
