My eight month old subwoofer started making gurgling and burping noises yesterday. Has something failed ? Hopefully it is still under warranty.

Sounds like a fried voice coil. Anybody?
Try pushing in and out on the cone, it should move smoothly but if it moves with difficulty and makes grinding/scratching noises then you need a new driver.

Yes if it was bought new, it is under warranty....warranty is five(5) years. Well, even used, as long as you have a receipt or proof of purchase.
Sounds plausible to me RS, I have not experienced that happening yet so I wouldn't know for sure.

The cone moves in and out smoothly. Time to head to the Circuit City repair department ?

Hello Bayward,
Thanks for contacting us. Here's a fool proof way to test to see if the sub-woofer is the cause:
1). turn the volume all of the way down on the sub-woofer and remove all of the connecting cables/wires except the AC power cord.
2). find the right and left RCA cables that go from your DVD player to the receiver and remove them at the back of the receiver.
3). bring the DVD player over to the sub-woofer and provide AC power for the DVD player, then connect the right and left RCA cables from the DVD player to the corresponding right and left inputs on the sub-woofer.
4). begin playing any CD (not a DVD, but a CD) and turn the volume up slightly on the sub-woofer. There should be plenty of clean sounding bass with no bad noises. Let the CD play completely through and try stopping and starting the player.
Let me know the results.
Regards, Ken, Polk

Okay, I tried the procedure you outlined Kenneth. I still get the bad sounds.
Because the sound was so bad I did not play the CD all the way through however. Hopefully I did not alter the outcome of the test.

I do plan on calling you Ken. I just have not been able to get home from work before your office is closed. Maybe tomorrow.

Hello,
According to the FedEx tracking site, your amp is on the delivery truck scheduled to be delivered today, the 5th. Let me know if there's a problem.

And FedEx was right again. :D The amp was delivered and is installed. That was the problem. All is well now. In fact, might be my imagination, but the sub sounds more clear now than when new.
What do I do with the bad amp ? Return it ? Trash it ?

Hello,
Good I'm glad things are sounding good again! If you could use the box the replacement amplifier came in and send it to the San Diego address, that would be very kind. You could use regular U.S. Mail, that would be fine.
Take care, Ken

I did just that and was surprised to see a box from Polk Audio on my front porch when I got home this evening. Seems the old dead amp was repaired and returned to me !
Now what ?

I just got the PSW202 and it is great except whenever there isn't alot of action and there are only voices being heard there is a small popping noise going on whenever there is a voice coming through. Is this because it is new or do I need to do some adjusting? Would connecting it to a wall outlet by itself help?

Bly, maybe start your own thread, so it is more easily tracked and commented upon. Sorry to hear about your problem.
The popping noise is not a "new" noise, nor should it be happening, under normal circumstances.
How do you have your subwoofer connected? Speaker wire, or line level(RCA) input.
What AVR, or gear are you using to feed it the signal? Sony, Yamaha, HK, etc.
How do you have it powered? Wall, outlet strip, etc.
These bits will help us, help you.

The Equipment I am using is a 5oow Pioneer (Can't recall the series offhand), I have it hooked up hooked up with RCA cables. Last Night I unplugged it from behind the cable box and plugged it to the wall outlet. I just bought it this weekend taking advantage of the $99 salea t CC.
