Hello,

Here is my setup:

(4) EX 572a in factory locations in a 94 merc cougar.
Blaupunkt Muechen HU
RF Power 400a4
Alpine Type R 12" Sub

The amp is powering the front to ex572a's, and is powering the alpine by bridging the back two channels.

I have things crossed over at about 70-80, and the gain on the full ranges at about 3/4, and around 3/4 on the sub.

The problem is that when I use any volume at all.....the 572a's just hurt my ears. The midbass is nice, but the tweeters produce a very bright harsh sound. The one resolve that I have found is to lower the treble on the HU to -1. This in turn takes away some of the SQ of the full ranges.

Is this what I should expect from these 572a's or is there something else that I can try, or that I have done wrong? Thanks!

Shaggy,
Try inverting the phase on the front speakers. Depending on the rate of the slope of the high pass filter ( if it is a 12 or 24 dB per octave ) This should tame the hard sounding highs and improve the bass and midrange definition. This may be attributed to the vehicle's transfer function along with the second or fourth order crossover inside of the amplifier. You may have to invert the sub as well once you have the front and rear speakers in phase acoustically to get the best bass response.

Happy Wiring!!
