Hiya, gang. Just ordered a pair of M60s (Cherry) from the Egg for 109.99 ea and 5.98 shipping total. Should have them by this Friday. I'm gonna be selling my R50s on CL.

I really liked the sound of the TSi400's that I listened to last week at 6th Ave Electronics and I've read that the M60s are almost the same speaker. This is what prompted my upgrade. Just hoping I'm not in for a rude awakening! They should sound significantly better than the R50s, right? Powered by a Denon AVR1611?

I think the 60's are a great sounding set of speakers - and you are saving some coin too. You gonna like em...

Thanks for the response! I know I'm gonna love em. Funny thing is I ordered them last nite but didn't tell the wife until today. Via text. Am I a bad person?

Give us a review of the speakers once you get them setup/broke in, etc.! And pics are a must! Enjoy the new toys, brother!

The cherry monitors have a high WAF (wife acceptance factor). The black ones have a monolith look to them. Check my system..

I'm no audiophile so I'm not sure if my review could benefit those with better setups but perhaps there's someone here in my position who's on the fence with new speakers just as I was. Maybe I will post a humble review.

I would love to say that I'm gonna get a receiver with pre-outs and an external amp in the future and add some huge ass towers, but it's not in the cards for a while. I figured my Denon 1611 will power the 60's very nicely but would probably be insufficient for 70's. For now, I'm gonna be happy with the purchase and at this price level I can continue to really enjoy this hobby without going into debt. For me, slowly creeping up to my ultimate system is the funnest part. And I'm so looking forward to watching some movies with my family this weekend and going through all my old CDs again to hear what I might have been missing.

They were old...I bought them back in 1998... served me well though. Good sounding speaker but I'm hoping these Polks will outperform them.

Heck no, I did the same thing. I have always heard it was better to ask for forgiveness than permission...

Can't really comment on how they sound, still running wires and hopefully will receive my SR608 today. Look out weekend. Just going off the comments from users on this sight is what prompted me to order mine, seems to be a GREAT speaker. I got a pair of Cherry's from polkdirect on ebay for $165.00.

Welcome to CP.

Just want to give some props to the two places that I just ordered my new equipment from. Picked up a Yammy 667 from Electronics Express on Monday and it is on the UPS truck and out for delivery today! And also a big "Thank You" to NewEgg...ordered M60's, M30's and a CS2 YESTERDAY, and they are on the UPS truck out for delivery TODAY! Incredible...

The only drawback is that I'm not ready for them yet! Have to disassemble the room and paint it before I put everything back together... should be up and running by Saturday night. I'll be sure to post some pictures and give everyone my first impressions.

Thanks again to everyone for your assistance.. great community here. Happy to be a part of it.

Man, that feeling is AWESOME when you're waiting for new audio equipment to arrive, checking the tracking info a million times, looking out the window, etc. My M60s are also "out for delivery" today from UPS and I've got "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," and "Live Free or Die Hard" ready and waiting to test them on, after running Audyssey, of course, followed by some Flim and the BBs at reference volume.

GOT EM! Wow, they're smaller than I'd imagined. But they're beautiful! After dinner I'm kicking everyone out of the LR and running Audyssey. Will report back later on the audition.

And to acmf74, that was some funny sh*t! Thanks for the laugh. My wife said the same thing when I bought home our first HDTV early last year.

I'll post some pics tomorrow.

First impressions: Ran Audyssey and put on Flim's "This is a Recording" at reference level. Man, these sound good. Right now they're set to "Large" with no sub. Switch CD's. Norah Jones literally sounds like she's in the room. Soundstage is much wider and fuller. Dire Straits "On Every Street." Mark's voice extends the full width of my LR during "Calling Elvis." I'm already hearing things I've never heard before. Time for "Happy Anniversary Charlie Brown" and some KT Tunstall. Much more bottom end than the R50s. May not need a sub for 2 channel. Turned on the sub and set the M60s to "small" and immediately I think it sounds fuller and more natural the other way. May be a waste to run these speakers with a sub for 2 ch. Speakers definitely starting to reveal my PSW10 as a weak link. Can crank these much louder but the sub is past its limit. Now gonna go watch American Idol in 7.1 with the fam. I may need to change my shorts first!

More to come...

lol..AI in 7.1 hehe..So you think they sound better running full range and not small?

That is a very preliminary review but as of right now, yeah, full range sounds better, more natural. Every time I listened to a song with sub/small and no sub/large, the latter just seemed "right." I can't wait to really enjoy them over the next few days and give them a proper listen.

I will say this...if anyone's on the fence about this speaker, and you're happy with your AVR without pre-outs and external amps, then I would strongly suggest picking up a pair while the Egg has such an amazing deal on them. My Denon 1611 drives them nicely and I think I will be staying with this front setup for a while. Coming from an obsessive-compulsive like myself, that's saying a lot.

Now...my sub, on the other hand...

So there was no way that I was going to be able to have this stuff sitting in the house without using it, so I set it all up tonight. New 667, new speakers...and, ummmm...WOWWW! Huge improvement over my last setup. Couldn't run the auto calibration because the wifey and kids are sleeping, so I messed with the manual settings for now... love the on screen display. The CS2 is wayyy better than my old center... looking forward to goofing around with this more in the coming weeks. Pics to follow...

Please post your configuration. I hooked mine up last night and was somewhat disappointed, I am sure it is some setting I have not configured right. I have the Onkyo 608, 60's (fronts), CS2 (center), 40's (rear) and PSW505 for sub. I can't find how to set speakers small/large and have to crank to about 27 or so before I hear sound. Replaced an older Sony receiver and 20 wife was yelling for me to turn it down. Both are 100W per, so I thought they would be similar.......

I love my 60's - I'm jamming Blu-Ray David Gilmour "Remember that Night" as I write this - sound's bad-@ss. Highly recommend this Bluray, altogether a "reference standard" to watch, listen, and behold.

definitely let the speakers break in, the sound will change with time and also run audissey... m60s with a good sub, which you have, sound amazing. Take the time to dial in the sub too(phase/volume), try different locations in the room, it will sound different in different spots. The placement of the speakers will make a differnce too based in the size and shape of your room.

Just take the time to dial in your setup (speakers and sub), it will reward you with beautiful sound.

Boy, I just couldn't be happier. Came home from work an hour or so ago and ran the Yamaha 667's calibration. Running that with 60's in front, CS2 Center and 30's in rear. Sound is awesome!!!

Can't talk about your receiver and how to change stuff... read the manual or I'm sure there are people on here who have your receiver who will help. But I don't think the problem is with the speakers, its just the setup you are currently running on your receiver.

Yes it does, it's called audissey. Comes with a microphone for calibration. Very easy to use as well, just gotta read the manual.

I also suggest setting the m60s and cs2 to 80hz and pass everything below to the sub. I actually have my cs2 set at 100hz because I think this makes the dialog much cleaner. The way I have mine setup sounds good to my ears!

Not exactly... if you keep decreasing the hz rate eventually it switches to the "large" setting.

No it switches to "full band"... is that considered "large"?

It does and I ran it. It made alot of chirping sounds, even with the receiver being on 0, and chirping sounds were ok loud. I was running it last night about 12:30 and thought I was going to wake people up. Afterwards I put in a movie and you have to turn it to about 28, JUST to hear something, and I thought that was strange. I upgraded from an older Sony receiver same 100W per channel and around 20 was was telling me to turn it down.

After reading several posts about this and input from other members, it seems this receiver has to have more volume for sound. 30-40 for t.v., 40-50 for music and 50-65 for movies.

Manual is pretty clear about audissey set-up and it performed well, centered, right, then left and it chirped along like two birds in a birdbath. It was after that I thought I might have something set wrong, when I had to turn it to 28 just to get a sound. Not that it doesn't sound good, just have to turn it so much louder than my older receiver.

I am learning as I go, I saw this in the manual and was looking for large or small, as people had been posting, and did not see it. I did not realize that "Full Band" meant large, another proof on my audioholic imbalance.
