I know what I am getting for Christmas. This digital camera looks great. I had the 707, the 505v and now the V1. 8 megapixels with a great Zeis lens. $1200 retail should be available for about $1000. This is not a digital SLR but very close.

That is an excellent choice. Sony is a leader in high perfomance optics for digital media. Great combination of quality.

Your analog choice is also outstanding in that area, V1 right?

Merry Christmas :)

Why wait until christmas?...Canon will release its most popular Rebel camera in digital version next month (9/15). This is a true SLR with the optional new zoom lens (18-55mm, equiv 28-90mm in 35mm), LENS AND BODY price about $999.

I like Sony and if I were to go with a digital SLR, I would get the Nikon or the regular Canon. For me the Sony is just fine. 8 megapix and 4 color filter. Hey I can wait for LOTR in dts, I can wait for my camera. :D

personally I have shot with entry level canon rebel 35mm and a nikon F55 35mm and the Nikon blows the canon out of the water. It's either that the Nikon has better autofocusing or that it has a better lens packaged with it (both are 28-80mm zoom), either way the pictures with the Nikon are very detailed and clear, while I know some Point and Shoot cameras that get sharper than the canon I shot with. I obviously havent done a side by side of all the cameras in Nikon and Canon's line ups but I would be hesitant to buy a canon lens. Maybe someone can explain the poor results I had with the Canon, I've shot about 15 rolls with both cameras so its not just one picture or anything
