hello guys,

i was just wondering if there is a real difference between the two brands, other than grant is located in canada. but they both ship out of honk kong, i am guessing the same factory makes both.

i ask in the sense of maybe they look the same but have better components (better power supply, or tubes). ala toyota/lexus.

by the way have any of you guys heard the grant fidelity p307 tube preamp with phono section? if positive please post your experience with them.

trying to get my toes wet in tubes, (i am very curious) and was wondering how it would compare to my rotel rc990bx

regards,

eduardo

I can't answer your specific questions. I do have a Yaquin MS-12b preamp that I like quite a bit. It too has a phono section. Visually the ony difference I see is the cage on the GF version. I paid about a third of what I could get the GF pre for. So far it's been worth it.

Cub,

the gf is $325, how much did you pay for the yaqin? And if you could please direct me there. Also how does it sound? Will i get the "tube sound" everybody talks about?

I've had my Yaqin for a couple of years. I bought it off Ebay but it was one of those deals where no one else bid on it and I picked it up for next to nothing. I also worked out a deal on shipping so I only have maybe $125.00 into the unit. I use it with my HLLY Tamp 90 tripath amp. Tripath and tubes is a great combination. I can't say you will get a "tube sound", whatever that is, I can only tell you that I enjoy the Yaqin the way I'm using it.

toss-up. Grant has a forum at audiokarma, if you haven't yet, you might want to do some leisure reading over there.

Good idea. GF seems to have a good reputation. It's always nice to have someone who stands behind their product.

The people at Grant are outstanding, I would recommend them hands down. I know a lot of things look the same, act the same - but at the end of the day, I have a relationship with one, and not the other.

I have the Yaqin 300B amp and it is awesome! Great sound and out of this world construction.

My impresssion is that the guts are the same but there are some cosmetic styling differences. Assuming you don't have a preference on the cosmetics, the other big factor is that Grant tests each piece before shipping & will be there for after sale support should you need it. Not going to get that from the Hong Kong seller dujor on eBay.

I currently have a Yaqin CD-2 tube buffer. That said I picked this up in a trade. Otherwise, I would have chosen the Grant version if buying new.

DAVE,

That is what i thought, but when i called grant fidelity about a tube buffer they said that the items (at least the buffer and the preamp) that looks like yaqin ships directly from factory, hence my question or my post here, since i felt that i did not get a direct answer from them.

if it is service that is fine but was wondering if anything in the guts were different.
