Yeah, it is pretty cool to lock on and see you guys destroy helicopters from across the map. I just unlocked guided shells for the tank, so I'm going to try setting up the soflam tonight and then hopping into a tank.

My friend and I just completed the second co op mission with the helicopter (PS3). It is tough but pretty fun. I ended up flying as he is not too good. I actually got pretty good at it myself and was able to keep the bird alive and position it where he needed in order to gun. The trick is keeping the copter level and steady so the gunner can get the aiming/locking.
(I crashed once but that was a panic move on my part)

Also, when you start taking fire the copter will start smoking. I backed away and went high, used the fire extinguisher and/or waited and the smoke cleared. Then got closer to finish the action.

I also use 3rd person view when flying, this seems easier. I go to 1st person view when I try to launch a few rockets from the pilots seat, but usually let the gunner take care of the killing below.

One other thing, I am not sure if this is true or not, but we may have figured out how to choose who is the pilot. I started the mission and initially I was the gunner. Of course my friend crashed right away and wanted me to try piloting. We were able to have me pilot every time by having me press the circle button as the mission is beginning. I do not know if this was just coincidence or it is actually controlling the pilot, but each time it let me be the pilot.

Oh, and if you are not using a headset/mic of some sort you should. Communication is a big part here.

I'm not sure how there's much difference with the SP between consoles/PC except for graphics and controls. Regardless, I played the first few missions of BF3 SP yesterday, and I seriously can't tell the difference compared to COD. Its the same crap. Shoot enemies with everything exploding around you, move up past a certain point, shoot more. Hold a defensive position and shoot away. Where's the strategy? What happened to figuring out how to defeat your enemy? Why do FPS nowadays have to all be so straightforward and over the top?

I gave up after holding a defensive position then have a 10.0 magnitude earthquake hit with buildings collapsing around and at me.... Uhh c'mon. Maybe this game changes after the first few missions but I'll never know cause I have no interest to continue.

P.S. And why in this game and CODs is there always a 'follow' symbol on top of somone... Why aren't YOU the one leading?.. Sorry for the rant guys, I'm just really disappointed, I thought BF would at least break off from the typical COD Sp junk.

For this game - I agree. But it's still fun playing w/ all these guys on 360 - though lately, with my class I haven't had time. Project due dates are on Saturday so Friday nights I'm workin my ass off after work.

So the new Back to Karkand maps were not available to download until later last night. It was not ready around 5 EST, I then checked again at 9:30 EST and it was there. I downloaded overnight and hope to check it out today.

To get the download you need to go to the in game Store menu and you will see it there.

By the way, the download is over 1300MB (on the PS3 anyway).

Well, after browsing this thread for a bit yesterday, I broke down and bought BF3. Did the first few single player missions, those are freakin' great. Then jumped onto multi-player, and got tore up! Nothing like COD online it seems like, I'll give this one a good chance, looks fun. I'm on PS3 - HawkeyeinNC

I never played BF before I got this one. When I first played the multiplayer I was the same way, I got destroyed and I didn't understand what was going on.
It took a little while to figure everything out, such as how the modes work like Rush and Conquest, and to learn about the squads and spawning, but once I got all that down it all makes sense now. And this game is amazingly fun. The sound is awesome (Polks all around of course), the graphics are great, the destructible environments are awesome (nothing like taking down the side of a building with a rocket to reveal a sniper inside).
And the vehicles are very fun. Tanks, jeeps, copters, jets, etc. I personally love when I see a tank or jeep drive over a few land mines I laid down and watch them explode.

With all that being said, I am not the best at this game but it sure has me hooked. I just wish I had more time to play. A friend and I have almost completed all the co-op missions, these are tough because once you fail you have to start from the beginning again, doesn't matter if you were at the very end or not.

When I have some time I'll look for you on line. I'm on PS3 as well, mud71.

On a side note for you 360 guys, I had a few minutes fooling around with the new layout. I think its better looking and all, but I don't understand why you have to pay to watch a music video (or video on hulu) when you can legitimately watch them on youtube (with vevo/hulu). Who would actually pay for that?

The new expansion pack is awesome. I had to modify my gameplay for these new maps. If you play against a good team they can hold you to one spot forever. I don't play the sniper class much but had to cause I seemed to be the only one that could get by the other teams onslaught. Had to set up a mobile spawn just so our squad could get out of our own base,lol. I did get boatloads of spawn points though. I may try it a little more often. Now if I could just get a few peeps to use the soflam and set it up correctly then you can win a map pretty easily against vehicles. Get one of those laid down and me in a chopper and it's all over. Other helos and planes dont stand a chance.

Sometimes playing on the PC is maddening. I played like 6 straight rounds where it's all the highest ranking people one team. And everyone else on the other team. They get all the bases and then start base raping. Seriously I'm trying my best not to break anything around me. ****ing a.

Seems the crew is conquest only and the few times we did play they itch to get back to conquest. I'm not sure why, I find rush more enjoyable and much more hectic, but thats just me of course.

That's why I play recon with the DAO-12 shotgun or UMP-45. I can put down spawn beacons and run the MAV when needed, but I'm still a part of the action and not camped out up on some hill a mile away not helping the team. I always loved running recon in BF:BC2 with a Saiga and slugs/magnum ammo too.

BTW my longest head shot is now 319. I picked off a couple of guys up on the top of the highway on Tehran highway from the base. It was a little satisfying.

I never use the sniper...not my style of play. I like being a$$es and elbows with the enemy.

Yeah - most of the time I play recon, I'm using the AS VAL + G19 suppr now days. When I do switch to the sniper rifle, it's usually b/c some fool is sitting across the map (esp now with the Karkand maps) just picking people off and I'm getting ticked. There was one guy yesterday who was like 52 - 19 and just sitting across the water with the L96(?) sniping away. So I switched over to the m405 and just messed with him for a few min. Of course, I'm not great w/ the sniper rifles so I gave up and just stayed away from that part of the map.

On the PC some of the rounds get VERY lopsided - there are just some teams where everyone is doing their own thing. I'll get a sniper rifle and practice then usually. But I keep that G19 auto pistol w/ me for close combat.

Teamwork is much better w/ the BF2 maps though, from what I've noticed. Probably b/c the gun unlocks require some semblance of helping out your squad members / team members. I'm digging the new maps.

Face - I tried joining your game yesterday, but when I finally got on I think you left after that round. Will look for you when I'm on.

I was playing last night for a bit and this game is so much fun, even when you are not doing so well. In one round I got killed by a repair tool, friggin guy zapped me to death (I was already injured). So funny.

Then later on I was in a rush game and someone had one of those little flying MAV recon drones or whatever they are. The guy flew it in to me so much it killed me. I started laughing. Although when he did it two more times I started getting pissed and needed to put two or three clips in the thing to down it.

I also killed a guy with the knife without taking his dogs tags. Normally you stab them and grab their tags, however when I went to sneak up on him and do this he moved and I just swiped at him. He must have been injured already because he died. So I checked today and I now have 55 knife kills and 54 dog tags taken.

Fun to see new things happen even after playing since the release.

What new/odd/uncommon things have you come across?

I've started sniping more since that topic came up. It's alot easier with the M98B ;) But not really camping and sniping. In Wake Island there's alot of running around, but you get a good view of the whole map b/c of the horseshoe shape of the island.

I had a repair tool kill too just for the G53(?) gun unlock. Someone did it to me too lol.

It's touch and go finding a squad who plays together though.

I like these interesting requirements for the unlocks. Minus the mcom thing since I don't play rush much. I dont like the rush that much because half the time the teams just there to kill. I prefer conquest because I can have a huge influence on the outcome. I can pretty much win a game easily and only have 3 or 4 kills as I hold the number one or 2 spot on almost every game. Conquest is the best for points and unlocking guns and team death match is best for unlocking attachments for the newly acquired weapons

I have a total of 40+ minutes using jets, and I have a total of 1 kill!:eek: I must be doing something wrong cause I can't kill $hit. I have 150 points using the jet and thats all from that kill, its getting really frustrating. But I will certainly try out your method, cause anything is better than what I'm doing :wink:

Good tips. I agree with keeping your altitude up - otherwise you encourage AA and Stingers from down below. I haven't had as much success flying as I did back in the day w/ BF2, but it might be the stick or just the fact that we have to unlock heat seekers, etc. Plus I need to set the buttons again - I think after the last update, it forgot all my controller settings.

I just found out my cable modem is so old it's not even listed on comcast's obsolete modem list! I swapped it out for a new 3.0 docsis modem and played one round of bf3 last night. I was a killing machine!
I'm usually ontop of my "new tech" edge in regards to computers so I'm embarrassed I missed this very important part of the puzzle. I found myself suddenly moving much faster, and my kill ratio jumped dramatically. I could pay for a higher speed but right now I'm getting about 30mbps.

I also replaced my router to get something with gigabit Ethernet and wireless N. I was having connection / disconnect issues in BF3 so I decided to upgrade. For example, playing a game of conquest, assault kit I get one weapon with a certain optic attachment, then a new game of conquest starts and I pick the assault kit again, not having unlocked anything the previous game, and I get a totally different gun with a a different optic attachment.

I just want to be able to know what gun I am going into the fight with.

I've only seen this happen to me a couple of times. Otherwise it has been pretty good. I don't think you are doing anything wrong, probably just a glitch in the game.

I've noticed something similar, I suspect it's what Face said. ex. I was using the M27IAR w/ the support class and the next round I started w/ the RPK74 instead.

When u first start out, you have different weapons unlocked depending on what side u are on, so you probably don't have that weapon unlocked totally.

So I only need 4 more ribbons to have at least one of all of them. 3 of them I think I can get without too much trouble (4 melee kills in a round, 4 m-coms defended, 5 motion sensor assists). The trouble for me will be to kill 6 enemies with air vehicles.

This will definitely need to be done in a chopper, as I can never even see anyone to kill when in a jet.

Other than these, I have all the other ribbons. The medals are starting to come now too, of course much more difficult to get these.

Anyone else shooting for all the ribbons, or have them all already?

I managed to unlocked the rocket pods w/ the jet - but I prefer heat seekers. Jets are still touch / go for me - but I find if you fly high and stay in the periphery, it's easier to spot other jets without randomly getting shot down.

I got addicted to snipering lately ...543m longest headshot lol. Somehow I've managed ~850 m98b kills in the last month after barely touch sniper rifles before that. Karkand is just a great sniper map lol.

Nope, use BF3Stats.com to check that - when it works. It doesn't always update correctly.

Enjoying the multiplayer is truly wonderful. This game has such a unique atmosphere, game play, graphics, customization, that you will simply not feel at any other game. BF was often about multiplayer. And they out done themselves this time. This is a game that I can see myself playing for years to come, which makes me actually grateful to have switched from console to PC.

Nice to finally game with you guys again it had been a long time. And we finally were able to play rush together:wink:. I think you guys who played agreed it wasn't much fun. At first it didn't make much sense, everytime I play rush on my own, I have a blast. Maybe we are just playing it wrong. I realized when we were on rush we kind of just did what we want, but while playing conquest we are always going each objective as a team. Thats what seems to be the problem, we (me included) don't really know how to play rush as a team. And if we can't go for objectives as a team against other late night players who can, we will lose every time.

Of course,if you guys don't want to give it another shot, I still have plenty of fun with conquest. Maybe this friday again!

Yep, I still play on the xbox, but I installed the new video card late last night (Thanks Praz!!) and also picked up a Razer Nostromo cheap on Craigslist to try out since I just cant seem to get the hang of WASD for movement.We'll see how that works out tonight possibly.

Praz, you only need to arm 2 more MCOMs, but that is the all-kit weapon, the PP-19, not the engineer unlock. You already unlocked the engineer weapons! :razz:

How's the card working? nice keyboard :) Yeah you'll get the hang of it - that and adjusting your mouse sensitivity will help. I tend to speed it up when I'm in a tank / LAV and slow it down when I'm on foot (using a Logitech G500 - but MX518 is a good oldy as well).

So I started the download and jumped on the xbox for a bit to get my recon service star then went to bed. I'll try out BF3 tonight with the new card.

I was online last night and found some of the advanced games where friendly fire is done so that if you accidentally shoot a friend, the bullet ricochets and hits you instead. The spawn is also immediate, no delay time to get back in. It was fun, and fast.

Reminds of the good old days playing Counter-Strike on the PC (is this still popular or even played? I have not been in PC gaming in long time). The keyboard/mouse combo was awesome and I had so much control. Took me a while to get used to the console controllers.

Now you know why I was complaining the few times I joined you guys on Xbox ;) Make sure you a good mouse though, that can adjust the dpi setting on the fly. Something like Logitech MX518 or a G500 - I find that I prefer different mouse speeds depending on whether I'm on foot or in a tank.

I'm getting there. I just cant get over 800 or 1000 ticket games. I had 82 revives in 2 rounds last night and ended up with over 7000 points in one round. That never happens on Xbox.

I just got the expansion kit Saturday for ps3, and wow, some of these new maps are nuuuuuuts! I've got a good handle on the choppers, but still just 11 points on the jets, even though I can fly them fairly well now. lol - yeah Operation Metro will do that. It's pretty much a bloodbath for the team that doesn't take the ticket area. That's like my 1040+ M98 sniper kills ... B2K maps are just too much fun w/ the sniper guns :) I managed a 773m head shot the day before yesterday...I get some weird gratification from it.

Unlock the Famas for a better gun. Its an easy unlock at 10 heals and 10 revives and you will have the fastest RPM (1000) gun in the game. That might help you a bit.

Edit: until it gets nerfed, that is. :neutral:

Yeah, the assignments were added with the B2K pack. That's why none of your previous work counts towards them. You can see in your Battlelog profile how close you are to unlocking each one under the Assignments tab. Here's a list of the 10 assignments:

My bad on mentioning advanced games, I was thinking of cod mw3. I go back in forth between the two, but battlefield is by far my favorite. I hate trying to get the hang of the knife in one game then having troubles in the other.

Ok. So, I have probably a dumb question. But how many scopes are there for the M240, and PKP Pecheneg? I have like 6 or 7 service stars now give or take, and still only have 9 or 10 scopes. Other guns have 11 total, at least for the assualt, and engineer classes.

So lately I have been trying to go back to the single player and finish the campaign. However when I try to play it gets about a minute or so in and then kicks me out of the game and says lost connection to the server or something similar. The multi player is working perfectly fine.

I've been out for a while, but plan on getting back online. I have some friends that only play mw3 but tonight I'll be back on track for some ps3 gaming on battlefield.

I haven't sent in my xbox yet to be fixed, but someone told me that if I wrap a wet towel around the console and power up the red ring of death goes away. Obviously not a great idea but a moist towel sealing in heat makes some sense. I know they reheat the heat sink in a toaster oven with the electronics wrapped in foil to get it reset.

How's is the game? Heard it was pretty good.

It's good so far, though i haven't gotten that far yet. I managed to use the workaround to manually import my ME1/ME2 character face, so just getting into it. You have to intermittently play multiplayer to maintain "galactic readiness" which is an interesting twist. And the multiplayer is pretty fun to me - you can change characters, level up, buy new stuff, etc. I'm enjoying it.

Agreed. I hate seeing soldiers using the MAVs as elevators. And the USAS-12 always seems like a bunch of little missiles coming at me. I don't use that gun, feels kind of like cheating, too powerful.

This is awesome that they are finally putting in a patch for this crap. I will on use the shot guns so that I can the scopes etc, but have never used the frag rounds as I see this as cheating as well. So glad this is coming.

I've been playing mw3 lately because my friend only has that game. I tried to get on bf3 and was moving around like an epileptic leprechaun. I couldn't move fast and when I did I was swinging around wildly. I finally got my movement tweaked OK, but my rust was too much. I plan on getting some new action tonight. I play Ps3 for both games but just now got my xbox working and back online. I plan on getting another bf3 just for the xbox since many of you play that rather than ps3 so I'll be available on both.

I'm IslandBerserker on both. After my skill acknowledgement I don't expect a flood of invites, but I'm actually fun to play with although I get shot more often than not.

Anybody tired of the 2k ticket matches yet? I'm worn out on jumping in a game, 1500 tickets left, and they are all camping around our spawn base. Ugh.

I'm aware of the unlocks you can purchase for the various kits to make all the weapons available, but I'd rather just keep playing the game and earn them all without paying for them. Hey Face, how are you unlocking the Close Quarters guns / assignments if CQ isn't out for the PC yet? I saw you got the SPAS yesterday.

PC was not meant to have the guns, something went wrong on the patch for PC that allowed the assignment's to be completed. The guns where downloaded with the latest patch, 2 or 3 of the weapons aren't able to be unlocked yet, this is how we know something went wrong and it wasn't meant to happen. There has also been no announcement from Dice saying PC will get the guns. As we know PS3 already have CQ because of Sony's deal with EA.

PC and Xbox will get CQ on the 12th if your Premium.

Haha, ask Grim and Shep about that. They jumped on with me Friday night and had to wait like an hour before we could finally play together. I saw you jump on and was in the middle of playing BF3, so that's why I sent you the party invite. Then I saw that you jumped into another game. That makes sense now as to why you didn't join me. Set it up to download in the background and just leave your xbox in for a bit. That's what I did.

Edit: Just a FYI, you are correct that the patch was to download all of the DLC, but it also included a large patch that corrected a bunch of stuff that was messed up in the game, such as the M26/dart glitch.

For anyone who hasn't played in a while, like you mrbiron, i would recommend turning on your xbox early and downloading the patch/patches. A few weeks ago I played with Grim and Shep, but they had to download and install the new patch before they could play which took like an hour. I don't want you to jump on tonight and have to wait like they did. All you have to do is load the game and it should prompt you to download / install the patch. See you on there tonight.

Yeah, i didn't get around to jumping on Saturday night. It was so hot in the upstairs that the little lady HAD to watch TV down with me in the basement so i was handcuffed.

I know the feeling. Can't do much than just wait it out. But I know how it is to try to get some time in while you can and then having to wait for updates to install, frustrating. But it's worth it, this game is amazing, it's all I play. I am currently working on getting at least one of every medal (I have at least one of all ribbons already). Just picked up my shotgun medal last night, next is to try getting the hand gun medal.
