Apologies if this has already been posted; did a quick search and didn't see anything so here goes.

I've been emailed these links at least 1/2 a dozen times today, but can't access youtube at work.

Sniping in BF3 seen here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKtRbmfcRls

Another trailer:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV4OM7V5l6M&feature=player_embedded

The sniping video must be amazing judging from how many folks have sent me that link at work. I get the feeling all the Modern Warfare folks might be hopping ship if this lives up to its hype!

doesnt bother me at all, the battlefield series was never about the best looks anyway, it was about gameplay.

Battlefield Bad Co. 2 used the frostbite engine, which is frikkin awesome. I believe this is the first game with Frostbite 2.0 if graphics take a small hit when product hits the shelves, I could hardly care.

I am also considering picking this up, but is this correct:

Release Date: December 31, 2011

That seems like forever away

The BF3 website says: Release Date: Fall 2011

At least Fall is better than December I guess

Same here... I loved BF2 and BF2142 even more. I only moved away from PC FPS games when I started playing games like Killzone 2 and COD MW2 on the PS3 / 360.

I've tried console controllers with shooters. It sucks doesn't begin to describe how horrible the experience is. On the other hand, I was able to play the Crysis 2 demo on the current box, which is several years old, so another year may end up going by without an upgrade.

it's a preference thing. I tried the pc route for shooters and it drove me nuts. I prefer the controller but I know if your used to PC going to controller is a pain in the ass. I definitely get that. it's all about what you like.

Yeah, I have a 120" screen with a great sound system for my tastes and a comfy couch to sit on. I realize I could hook my PC up to it, but it's not worth all the hassle just to play one game.

I think the consoles put everyone on an equal playing field aside from individual skill and connection speeds. If I sacrifice a little bit of detail in graphics going console, oh well. I still have a nice PC I built, but I've long moved on from the days of spending hundreds of dollars almost yearly to gain a competitive edge in a game. Not to mention I won't have to upgrade my girlfriend's stuff, because she'll want to play BF3, too. The only downside I see for myself with getting the console version is not being able to use a flight stick.

I'll bet most of the regulars on 360 are going to stick with the 360 for this, and they don't have shabby PCs either. There's another option, though....get both.

Battlefield has always been a PC game and by going to 360 version you're going to be missing quite a few good features. These might or might not be of importance to you.

Quite frankly, I could play games on my big screen but it really doesn't compare to the monitor setup I have. 5760x1080 resolution on three 23" Samsung's using Eyefinity. The middle monitor is your main screen, what you would see with one display while the 2 others are "surrounds" giving you a side view. Sorry, can't do that with one screen no matter how big it is, and can't do that with a console until they maybe catch up on next generation cycle.

Yep, you have to then. I have the option to play on 61" 1080p or 116" 1080p but it would not be nearly as good as with 3 23" 1080p's linked together. You would have to experience it to appreciate it. Demands quite a lot from the PC though, Crossfire with a higher end card is a must as you're displaying 5760x1080.

I'd love to see a pic of your setup, Sami. Aside from a few videos I've seen of running racing sims on three monitor systems like that, I'd never thought about it. Do most games have the capability built-in so there's 'surround' content to display on the side monitors? Or how does that work?

Sami
05-01-2011, 03:26 AM
Pictures don't really give you an idea of how good it is to sit in between those monitors but perhaps this will explain a little why a single large monitor will not duplicate the experience. BF:BC2.

Do you use that setup with the Track IR and ArmaII as well?

5870's are about $200 and two of those will power BC2 to 80fps. NVidia would be better performer for the money in SLI but unfortunately Eyefinity is ATI/AMD only while NVidia has their 3D. i7-950 clocked at 3.7GHz with entry level water cooler, will be installing a high end cooler that will cool CPU, both GPU's and NB chip once I build a custom case. Radiator on that thing is massive and most cases won't fit it. :(

You also need an active Display Port adapter which is about $25.

Do you use that setup with the Track IR and ArmaII as well?

Planning to, once I have more time. Been spending half of the current year traveling all over the country and the rest building guns for night hunting. I just got this setup built recently. Hopping into a place in an hour to go to Silicon Valley once more.

Here you go: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7073899&SRCCODE=GOOGLEBASE&cm_mmc_o=VRqCjC7BBTkwCjCECjCE

Only the price of a loaded PS3/XBOX system. Crossfire these and you're good for a long time...

Seriously though, two of these might be the answer, just find another one with a rebate and you're good to go. I think the 6870 while not as good as 5870 by itself, scales better in CF so it might get you better performance than dual 5870's. I went 5870 route as I already had one and adding another was $190.

Hmm. This whole eyefinity thing is definitely something for me to look into when I start upgrading my computer again. Definitely a pretty large cost that I won't be able to afford for a while, but also definitely an eventual goal I'd like to meet.

As long as it's a stable 30fps, I'm fine with that, especially for this type of game. Crysis 2 was also locked at 30fps on console, and it was still one of the best-looking games I've seen on the 360. From the PS3 gameplay they had on Jimmy Fallon, I'm pretty sure the console versions will still look outstanding... and I'd much rather play in my home theater than on my computer in the bedroom.

I'm going to go with the PC version here. It's a toss up between higher end visuals and tighter controls vs higher end audio and sofa comfort.

1600p vs 720p is just too much of a difference. Even going from 1080 to 1600 is effectively doubling the amount of pixels that are rendered. Since I can tell the difference between 50fps and 60fps, I definitely couldn't make do with 30. I've been spoiled by great pc gaming.

I might be wrong here, but doesn't our eyes have a really hard time seeing any improvement in PQ for anything above 720p (except for big screens)?

And I much rather deal with lower frame rate and lower resolution than playing on a small screen with no surround sound, and of course no nice couch.

People say different things, so there is no set FPS or resolution that we can see. I guess that makes sense since all of our eyes are different.

I agree with the console though. I'd rather play on a 108 in screen with 7.1 audio from my couch than huddled at my desk on a 22 in monitor with 3.1 audio and an uncomfortable desk chair.

I have the best of both worlds because whether I'm playing on the pc or on my tv, each location for me is just as enjoyable. If you're having to huddle at your desk then you're not doing something right. Make yourself comfortable. I have my big comfy chair for my pc, and still have 7.1 surround, as I have had for a number of years.

Sitting 2' from a 30" screen is essentially the same effect as sitting 10-12ft from a 100+ inch projection screen. So the experience I get from either location ends up being about the same.

So for me it is a no brainer. Since I have the pc to push this game to the limits, it's going to look much better. I'll be running a smooth 60fps with high Anti-Aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering, DX11, and tighter controls. I wouldn't want it any other way.

I get what you are saying, but our computer is the family computer. Yeah, its a quad core with 6 gigs of ram and a good video card, but that's because I'm a computer nerd. Our PC is basically for surfing the Internet when we are not near a laptop or for my wife to do the bills. Other than that, its rarely used for games.

I understand your point of view. It's different when you have to share the pc.

I'm not bashing either way of playing this game. Both PC and consoles will be a blast. I just want the most visual fidelity that I can get, so I have to choose pc on this particular game.

I'll be going the PC route as well, as I do with most of my first person games that require precision control.

For me, having the tighter controls and better graphics are paramount and that's why I do most of my gaming where those two are important on my PC. Something like Portal 2 or sports or racing games is cool sit back on the couch and play on the PS3 (and those account for all my PS3 games) but for serious games I'm a PC guy.

Is it expensive to keep a PC up to par in running the latest games? Sure, but what isn't expensive these days?

I actually just started Bad Company 2 on the PC last night and the graphics are far superior to the X360 copy my friend has, assuming your rig can run it.

On the topic of this game, BC2 is my first foray into the Battlefield games and I have to admit that I actually like it better than MW2.

If Battlefield 3 is anything like BF2 / 2142 -- ie. huge maps, planes, helicopters, tanks, etc. I'm going to love it. I tried playing BF : BC multiplayer on the PC and I just couldn't get into it - maybe b/c I don't quite understand what's going on or b/c I've gotten rusty on PC after playing COD all the time.

I pre-ordered both versions, but I'm hoping I like the PC one.

BF3 is going to be fun. I understand wanting to play from the couch and all. However, the gamepad is just soooo clunky compared to PC controls. Go pc if you have the motivation, and some don't, that's fine.

I built my pc on the fairly cheap. Got the 2500K cpu/mobo/ram for $500. PSu was $70 and I scored a Galaxy 480GTX Soc for $230. So under $900 and I can play any game easily at 2048X1536.

I cannot wait till this comes out. I played BF2 on the pc like it was my religion or something. I cannot wait to mod for this game on PC. I did sound mods and almost every kind of mod you can think of for that game. If you used a rangefinder, javelin, jetpack, and tons more mods that was me. I did not do the modeling but I did everything else. This looks like I wont need to mod it for some time though. Looks like what was missing in the first one is now in this version many times over. I wonder if you can still roll the chopper, jump out, and avoid a missle, then jump back in. I took so many planes out like that, lol. I wonder if my photobucket from back then is still alive. If so, I have some of the most excellent pics around for BF2. Will see if the account is still up and going and if so, and I can remember my pass from way back then I will post away some pics.

BF3 is not going to be on steam btw. Seems like EA is pushing their origin (steam clone) pretty hard. Not having the game on steam will hurt sales.

Will it not be on Steam at all? I figured it just wasn't releasing on Steam.

Nope. EA claims its over an issue they have with Steam and they way they want to provide updates to their games... but let's face it, it seems like a cheap way to push their Origin service. Steam works very nicely, and EA should give up this Origin crap and just be happy making money hand over fist.

What resolution are you running? BC2 in 1920x1080 was easy for single 5870 but 5760x1080 was heavy for even dual 5870's. I will see in a little bit how BF3 BETA runs in 5760x1080, I hope it won't be choppy.

I've tried both betas - the 360 version is a little choppy compared to COD, but very playable. I'm running the PC version at 2048x1152 on Ultra w/ my GTX 580 and there's no hiccups aside from the game's bugs. I don't think it's that graphically demanding.

Well I'll say this - there's way too much spawn killing, which annoys the crap out of me. Outside, it's tough run around b/c there are snipers everywhere ...a lot of run and dive and look around to see if any sniper is hiding lol. But like any game, you play it enough times and eventually you'll slowly get the hang of it. Plus for once I don't really give a crap about my k/d ratio - when I played the old BF2 / BF2142 games it was more about teamwork and I'd rather worry about resupplying / reviving teammates.

So that way I see the potential for this game to be really fun. I don't think I got a chance to play a map with vehicles though ... was that earlier in the beta phase?

Anyway ..right now I'm leaning towards the PC version more. If the final 360 version is smoother and they let me remap the controls ala COD, I could play it.

I played a couple rouinds last night. Aside from the graphical glitches and a poor choice for a release map, I think the game is decent. You gotta remember this is just an Alpha build. They took an alpha build and made it an "open beta" release.

The game feels a little like you're running on ice. Movements aren't super precise. But, again, I think that has to do with it being such an early build. I don't like how each individual gun for each faction has to be upgraded individually.

I've finally gotten the hang of this map. Been crushing people, on defense especially. If I'm online, don't heistate to join me, Spliff7 on 360. I'm always playing solo.

Don't cancel those orders yet guys, the best is yet to come. 20 days and counting....

I tried a few rounds last night on xbox. The audio is pretty awesome. Gameplay reminded me of BC2 obviously. But the graphics are awful. I understand its supposedly an alpha build, but wow. I could barely make out the enemy at times, depending on where I was on the map.

I'll try to play with y'all sometime this week. But as of now, I'll still wait to see the final release before deciding to buy or not.

See, when I play this game I don't think the graphics are that bad at all. Maybe I just don't expect as much as you guys do. BFBC2 just blew me away in graphics and sounds. And I don't think BC3 is much behind that in this "beta" build.

I don't have any problem seeing people, bullets, laser lights or tacticle lights. The rooms aren't to dark. The only problems I have are on the A station on phase 1 where u can go under, and actually get stuck, the ground. I know there are more spots like that around the map but that one seems to be the worst to me. But supposedly that is fixed in the actual game.

I read a post from a developer today stating that the build we are playing is a month behind; that's not as much as they tried to make it out to be. Betas rarely vary far from their final look, so don't expect much different. I would be OK with BC2 looks, but I think we are out of luck. The new engine variant just doesn't seem to scale as well.

Well, I'd guess there's some tradeoff on graphics and performance - the more that is going on, the more of a slowdown you're going to see. Especially if they're going to have vehicles and planes and whatnot for the console versions. Something probably has to give.

Polkie2009

+1 on what tommyboy mentioned about it being a beta version. After reading the Wall Street Journal's Tech Europe article by Patrick Bach, producer at DICE,he was a bit disappointed in his work on BBC2, but a number of people(including me!) who bought the game, loved it. He's his own worst critic and according to him, the new Frostbite 2 technology used in Battlefield 3 should be an improvement. I might throw caution to the wind and buy a few ERTS shares of stock and see how the game sells.

Since it's going back to the BF2 and BF2142 style, I think it should sell well. The graphics were good on those games considering how huge some of the maps were - and once you're playing it's not really something you're that worried about.

It's mostly because they've hyped the graphics so much for this title... and repeatedly said they were going to best Modern Warfare 3. Honestly, based on the beta, they didn't even best Modern Warfare 1. They've talked up their new engine, the destructability, etc. but the graphics on display here just don't bear that out. They certainly don't seem complex enough to have the game running at 30fps on consoles.

I'm glad they put a beta out though... Took my pre-order off and got a used copy of Dead Island instead. If I see in the initial reviews that there's a massive improvement over the beta, maybe I'll still jump in... but overall, I don't think they did themselves any favors by showing something this bad looking after all their hype.

Let's hope this addresses the graphical issues... but they're still saying their game looks better than their competitors. That's the hype I'm talking about. With games like Rage out there looking so jaw-droppingly amazing at 60fps, they better hope the final product shows it.

OK, now this would make sense, and would give a credible explanation as to why the graphics were said to be better on the release version, since it technically has nothing to do with beta or not. I've decided to pick it up regardless, but I'll still hold my breath due to EA making a mess of most things they touch.

That said, if this ends up greatly enhancing the visuals like they say, EA/DICE should be ashamed for not letting people know of this upfront instead of enduring the public backlash since beta release. And if I ran the company, I would fire their entire PR department for it.

Well, I got it to work. When I read up online what was wrong, it says I should unplug my router for a minute or two and then plug it back in, which I tried with success. It seems to be a pretty common problem apparently, but not a biggie if you know what the problem is.

Anyways, after going back to BC2 and can now compare it to BF3, I have to say BF3 wins in pretty much every way (we will see when vehicles etc or added though). The controls feel much smoother in BF3, while in BC2, for example moving laterally is verry clunky IMO. Also, I think it takes way too many hits to kill someone in BC2. So if you are facing two on one, its pretty much impossible to get a double kill. Although this is still a small issue (for me at least) in BF3, its not half as bad it seems.

And though not a big deal, I hate you can't go prone in BC2. In BF3, everytime I kill someone from a far range I'll go prone to reload. But in BC2, when you shoot someone it seems you're destined to be killed since you can't go prone to defend yourself while reloading...

None of this means I'm not willing to play, where was the crew at tonight??

I'll have mine tomorrow (PS3). I'm looking forward to the single player campaign. I'll also jump on multi-player to provide people with target practice.

Getting Uncharted 3 next week as well. I have not really been playing many games in the last year or so, these will be a little reward to myself for now.

Played a few missions in the campaign (PC) for a bit tonight. Played a few rounds on multiplayer (conquest) and it was pretty fun. They fixed the flight stick issues, so the few min I was flying it seemed to be ok. still need to fix the other buttons ..but so far pretty happy w/ the game. I think there are a few times where I shot up someone and they still killed me ...that's a bit annoying, but didn't happen too much. I think my 360 copy should come in the mail.

I picked it up at midnight and played for about 2 hours. It's going to take some getting used to and there were some server issues. Also, the code i received from BestBuy for the Spectact skins unlocked dog tags instead. Bestbuy, always screwing stuff up. Apparently this is happening to everyone that pre-ordered at BestBuy. There is supposed to be a new code emailed in 24-48 hrs to all of those that preordered to get the Spectact kit. I'm pretty beat (not as young as I used to be) from staying up that late then getting up at 6 for work, but that's not going to stop me from being on tonight. I'll see all of my Xbox brethren on live tonight .

I was playing a bit last night and the spot where you must follow the cable, something weird went on. I could not see anything, I could see my weapon but looking ahead it was all red. I would walk towards the red and then the background would finally appear. after I finshed that part where you need to unplug the two cables it was fine. Not sure it it was a glitch only on my system, or it was the disk or my PS3. But so far so good.

I started the Campaign mode last night and it is pretty good so far. The audio is great (Polks had the wife complaining), as well as the graphics. The storyline and gameplay could be a little better but I am fine with it.

I have not gone on line yet but will try to do some multi player tonight.

I have been watching, and reading this thread. I have not said anything, because I was waiting for the game to get to me. So, here are my thoughts. The game over all is good. The graphics are pretty good, but by no means steller. Some complaints I have is, (cant remeber what mission it is off hand) when you get into one of the Hummers, you see one of them turn, but when you look at the front wheels, they stay straight, and dont turn like a real vehicle. When the AI puts the gun to his shoulder, it still disapears into his shoulder instead of looking like it is against the shoulder. Another one is in the mission bad side of town. When you are on the roof top, and after supporting you coreman, and the wounded person, your team is forced to find another way off the roof top. They grab a board, and then cross. The last person who cross over Montes is floating ontop of the board, and when he kicks it over so no one else can follow one foot is still on the board, and the one that kicks to board again disapears into the board. Another one is when you are about to be in the plane. If you watch the pilot when he turns his head, his chin seems to make his suit collar again disapear. I guess there are just somethings in real life that can not be projected into a game. As for the campaign, I thought it could have been longer. I beat the whole game (if you exclude the cut scenes) in like 4 hrs or less I think cant remeber. Granted it was on easy to start, but still it could have been a bit longer. I know that when you play it on the normal, and then hard it will take a little more time, but still the story line could have been better, and could have been move actual game play. I found my self just getting into the mission, then I would get the cut scene. Kind of aggrevating to me a little. Over all though the game is fun, and a nice addition to my collection.

That's funny, I noticed the same thing last night.

Amazing how we are disappointed when we do not get perfection in these games. However, the developers have set their own bar so high it gets tough to meet that standard I think.

KaosTsoc
10-27-2011, 05:27 PM
mudwrx, I have to agree with you on that note. They set the bar so high, and made it sound so good, and yet it seems like they forgot the basic's, like the wheele turning. I mean when you look at BC2 which I have as well, the wheeles always turn when you turn them. Sure the complaint is probably petty in all, but with all this hype, and time they spent on trying to get this to be good. They let the small things that should have been a given go to the way side. So, yeah -1 for them on that.

I played on line for the first time last night (PS3). I had a little trouble getting on a server at first, but once connected all was good.

I've never played the COD titles before, plus I'm not the best first person shooter gamer. So when I got in a Rush game I was very confused and a little frustrated. At first I didn't even know where to go or what to do (besides trying to shoot anything that moved). Of course I got killed every other second, as I was just trying to get my bearings straight.
I almost threw in the towel and said screw it, but I kept trudging along.

After a few rounds a started figuring things out and actually got a few kills under my belt. Now that I understand the premise of the Rush concept, I like it. It's going to take me a while to rank up and get better, but that's the fun part and the challenge.

I still need to understand it all a little more, such as what all the gadgets do and how a squad works, but it will be fun.

I also signed in to the battlelog web site and it is cool to see your stats there (gives me something to look at during the work day).

So far I am loving this so much more than COD BO. Getting on a server, staying on the server without losing connection seems to be the main issue I am having. Once you get on the server though and get going it is a blast. So far I have driven the tanks, apc, humvee, little bird and so on. I did notice that having a gunner in the tank with you is a must imo. If not the other team will rocket you to death pretty quickly. A tip I will give the COD BO run and gunners......don't do it unless you like to die over and over and over and over. Snipers in this game will own you. And if you see a REALLY bright light it's not heaven you are seeing, it's a tactical light and you better shoot or you will see the light, lol. Off to play a little more in a few.

So I have been playing the multi-player some more and it is fantastic. I found myself playing the Engineer class the most and then the Recon. I have not played much as the other two yet. I enjoy using the tanks, therefore I think that's why I use the Engineer class, as I can get out and fix the thing when it gets disabled. I'm also going to try and get a kill with my repair torch, instead of knifing someone.

Can someone explain a little more to me about how the squads work? I've joined one or two during some games and I can see each person in the squad, but after this it just seems no different. I guess I'm suppose to stay with the squad and/or follow orders, but the game is so busy and chaotic that does not seem feasible most of the time.

Anyway, really enjoying the game so far. Uncharted 3 was shipped to me today so now I need to find time for both...

The point of the squad is that it allows you people to spawn on when you die. So like if your squad is taking a flag in conquest etc that you can spawn quickly on them and help them out to take the objective. I normally play with 3 other guys so we all get in the same squad and then communicate what we are doing and where we are going. Also if they jump in a vechile I can jump right in with them when I spawn so I'm not stuck running into the field and going forever.

Love this game however and think its so much better than the COD games. I mostly play conquest and rush so there is more to do than run and gun. Also working together as a squad we do a eng, med, etc so that way we can heal each other and then also jump in a tank and repair etc. I'm mostly either a recon when needed or a eng. So far so good with the game. Only thing is when it got started up the other day with not finding a server and EA being down.

That sucked. But I'm a level 8 or 9 already and will probably be a 12 or so by the end of this week if I can play as much as I want.

True. I am not as big of a gamer as I used to be but I wish I was. There are so many top notch games coming out lately. I think the developers finally have caught up to what the hardware can do. I just finished Red Dead Redemption (awesome game) and am intentionally going to steer clear of MW3 (because I have no time to play that as well as the others).

Hi Guys,

I apologize for the "noobie" of this question, but I am loving the multiplayer yet still need to get a few things straight. Obviously I am new to the Battlefield series as well.

When I am in a squad, what does it mean when the screen flashes 'squad spawn on you in 10'? And do I have the option to spawn on my squad? It seems even if I am in a squad, I always spawn back at the base. Admittedly I probably should look a little closer, as when I die and respawn I simply press the x to do so (PS3). Is there a different option to spawn on squad, versus at the base?

And do I need to have a headset/mic in order to give or receive squad commands?

Thanks for the help.

Squad spawn on you means a squad mate spawned on you and you got 10 points for it. When yo go to spawn, scroll up to the optional spawn points and you will see your squad mates if they are alive. You can spawn on any of them as long as they are still alive. You don't need a mic to give commands, just point your cross hair on the objective or person and hit the back button on xbox360 or select on PS3 to ask for ammo/meds or tell the team to attack an objective. You can also use this same button to spot enemy troops and vehicles for your team to see on the map and with a orange triangle over their head for a bit of time.

The multiplayer on this is just sick, awesome, rad, killer, pick your verb. From the dust filling the sky after a building falls, to lying prone behind a rock, jets, helos, a number of ground vehicles, it's just the best multiplayer experience I've ever had. Blows away COD. The squad's seem to work well. The levels are near perfectly laid out. No bottle necks anywhere that I have found.

It's almost impossible to be a lone wolf in this game, you have to work with your squad/team to take objectives. I get a smile on my face just thinking about it, lol.

I've been playing mostly the support class. And that exactly what you are. You can't sit back with the snipers trying to pick people off, you won't hit a dam thing. And you cant be running with the assault/engineer guys. The opposition guns will kill you faster than your HMG will kill the opposition. You have to be somewhere in the middle.

Anyhow, I'm taking thursday night off playing, have to "prove" to the gf that i still love her. $100 steak dinner here I come. But I'll be around friday night, probably all day from about 3pm cst till who knows when.

First impressions...............F'n TOUGH!
The controls are all out of whack and i play a lot of first person shooters. I'll get used to it.
The opening AK47 is a pile of $hit!...i spent a majority of my time run for dead bodies to find a different gun. The spawns are terrible. I spawned literally in front of a guy shooting at someone else...insta-death. WTF!
Most of all, i was having the hardest time just seeing anyone. The corners are pitch black and like COD, there are campers EVERYWHERE!!

But i will not let in. Now that i got my feet wet, it can only be uphill from here. Playing the campaign should give a better feel for the game but who has that kind of time.

Yeah last night was the first chance I got. I have to say I really didn't like the game we were playing, I find rush much more enjoyable. But it doesn't matter what game I play, I suck. There's still A LOT I have to learn.

The spawns are terrible. I spawned literally in front of a guy shooting at someone else...insta-death. WTF!
:

You must not understand how the spawns work. You can either spawn at your base, in which no one can kill you. Or you can spawn behind squadmates. it doesn't matter if hes getting shot at or not, as long as hes still alive, you will spawn. There are also mobile spawn points people leave, but I'm not sure which class has them and how long it takes to earn them.

You must not understand how the spawns work.
There's no mystery there...i don't know how anything works
I have never played a battlefield game before so last night was a learning experience. Painful learning experience.
I didn't know my a$$ from my elbow but still enjoyed what i was doing to a degree. If we jump on tonight, i hope the veteran players will help me.

Yeah last night was the first chance I got. I have to say I really didn't like the game we were playing, I find rush much more enjoyable. But it doesn't matter what game I play, I suck. There's still A LOT I have to learn.

Yeah, I prefer rush as well. Those guys that I am friends with are hooked on conquest though, and I'd rather play with a bunch of friends on a game that I do not like as much than with a team full of lone-wolfing strangers in rush. I'm sure you understand. We can play rush tonight if you want.

For anyone who doesn't know, if you want to tie your xbox to battlelog, you must use the same email that's for your xbox live account

But either way, you have a diff battle log for each system (console, pc), right?

Meanwhile ..what time are you guys playing tonight? And are you guys playing conquest or rush? Didn't really enjoy rush that much during the beta.

So I played some co-op with a friend last night and it was fun. The second mission is good because we have to fly a helicopter and it'll be good practice for the multiplayer.

Speaking of which, when I join a multiplayer game, is there a way to join with a friend so we are in the same game? Do we have to squad up beforehand somehow?

Praz, I'll be on around 915 cst. I've been playing both rush and Conquest. Like em both.

Mud, it's easiest to have your friend join your squad before joining, via the manage squad under quickmatch menu. If u get split up when joining, u can still switch teams when dead if teams won't be unbalanced, and can switch squads any time.

Fine fine! As long as we mix it up - I'm partial to conquest :) Anyway I'll be on in the evening - I can play until about 8:30 or 9pm (PT) as my cousin's husband is coming over to hang out until he picks up my cousin from the airport.

Got on with Shep, zeros, biron, and Praz Friday (along with others who knew zeros) , and wow, thats what this game is about. You just don't get those kind of dogfights in COD, this game is meant to be played with friends.

I won't be tonight cause of the Steelers game/Walking dead, but would like to join up with a few of you guys again soon. Fridays are hit and miss for me to play, but if thats the only time you guys can usually get on as a group then so be it

Ok. So multiplayer is good, and like the physics on it, and how some of the environment is destructible. Note the word some.... The one thing that kind of gets on my nerves is that if someone is hiding in a bush, you can not blow up the bush. However in BC 2 if I saw someone hiding in a bush, I will take them out, then destroy the bush they were in. In battlefield 3 it seems that the lost this, and is kind of irritating. Overall I like the multiplayer though, just wish dice would make an update so, that like in real life everything can be destroyed even the bush's..

Thanks.

I'm not positive, but I believe they had to tone the destruction down a bit in order to keep frame-rates up.

That would make sense, but you would think that with the new engine it would be able to support that no matter what. I would think that would be part of the basics for them, but I guess not.

Thanks.

The engine isn't the problem, its the consoles. They created an engine that would take advantage of todays PC. 2011 PC =/= xbox360 from 2005.

I get what your saying, but again look at BC2, they were able to do it then..... At the end of the day though the compairson will still be the same, and will also be the reason why some of the enviorenment is not destructible. Another issue I have is there is no hard core mode. I really enjoy that kind of game play. Alot more realistic, and this whole empty an entire mag into someone is just not realistic, or at least not to me. If I hit someone three - four good times in the right area you are going down.... Oh well it is just how the cookie crumbles....

Thanks.

It's night and day trying to play on the 360 vs the PC. One thing I don't understand is why it has to be so slow - for good or bad COD runs much smoother - movement and all. Maybe it's the larger maps, maybe it's a shoddy port of a PC game to the consoles. It's not unplayable, but it takes away from the fun a little.

The PC version has its own issues. Hackers for one. Spawn locations are horrible - spawning right in front of the enemy multiple times is just stupid. Some of the maps are just not suited for conquest (Operation Metro especially). Otherwise, I've enjoyed the PC version (my OCD from the old BF days was in full effect the last week - had to force myself to just not play at all today).

Otherwise, I don't think the graphics engine is very demanding considering how fast today's multi-core cpus and gpus are. But for a 5 year old console, I can see the 360 struggling. Anyone know how the PS3 folks are faring?

HA agreed. You can rack up support points and eng points (noob tubing left and right) - but if you're the team having to come from the subway down below, you're pretty much screwed unless you get that ticket area flag.

Battlefield 3 is definitely a PC game ported to consoles. "Low" graphics quality on the PC is equal to the consoles. That said, the engine is a lot newer and more intensive than the CoD engines (which haven't changed much technically or graphically). That said, it's really a demanding game so break out your quad-cores and recent higher-end graphics cards. It runs fine on my Q8300 & HD5850.

Haha, that sounds good. I played rush with Ohskigpd yesterday for a bit. It was a nice change. Plus I still want to try out this SOFLAM with an engineer running with a javelin or guided tank shells.

There's a 50/50 chance I'll be on tonight. I'll definitely be on tomorrow though.

Co-op wasn't really something I was interested in. However, I hear there is a co-op mission which requires you to fly a helicopter and thats something I def want to learn. I have been avoiding fllying them since the few times i did try I crashed in like 10 seconds.

Anyone here into tanks for BF3? I have been playing here and there as much as I can so I am about to get the canister shell. Anyone here ever use it? What weapon combos are your favorite or have found to be the best so far? Overall I am loving this game. I just wish it was Dec. already so the back to Karkand map pack and weapons were out. Carry on.
