How many Ohms? [Archive]

I have the choice between four and six ohm on my receiver setup. Hate to sound dumb but which way is best. Running a pair of RTi A7's through an Onkyo Tx NR1008. Any wisdom is appreciated.

the RTI A7s are rated as 8ohm speakers, so 6 ohms on the receiver should suffice. You don't really have to worry about overheating the amplifier with A7s.

That switch really doesn't matter since you have that parasound amp. Your receiver is not powering your speakers.

True, but upgraded the pre on the Parasound to a Onkyo SC-5508. Have moved the old RTi setup along with the Nr-1008 to the bedroom. So more ohms, more power is being used? The more power the better the sound?

Surprised there's not an 8-ohm default...

I'm thinking the 4-ohm setting would be current limiting to protect the receiver when connected to lower impedance speakers. And lower current definitely does not head you in the direction of better sound.

Ditto for the 6-ohm, excepting it would be less limiting.
