It's about time. The first release of this, from what I've read all over the net, was terrible. Poor video, audio and no extras. Check out these reviews on it: http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_item.asp?userid=00000587192042&item_id=449057&tab=3
I liked this movie, even though I wanted to see that aircraft carrier unleash hell on the entire japanese navy.
Would be cool to see a part 2 where it does happen that way!

I believe you have the release date wrong. I just checked with davisdvd.com and they are showing a street date of March 30th, a little over 2 weeks away.
Peace Out~:D

Yep - that original note of mine was written in Aug. 2003 and was Blue Underground's original anticipated release date, but 3/30 it now is!

Wow, wow and wow. Blue Underground did an awesome restoration job. I watched it last night and was amazed at the PQ. It's a tad soft in some scenes with some grain here and there but over-all, excellent. The dts track is nice and enveloping but does lack some needed bass.
What a treat to finally see this movie done right.

Agreed, Ron. I don't think BU could have done a better job had they wanted to, given the age of the film. Something about that movie too, that makes me want to watch it over and over again.

Yes, this one has a high re-watch factor. I love the dog fight with the Zero's, that whole sequence is awesome.

Right, and regarding that one Zero (from IMDB.com)...Spoiler ahead.....
"A Zero that was hit by a burst of shells from an F-14's M-61A Vulcan cannon (which fires at a rate of 6000 rounds/min) would not have stayed in one piece and only suffered a damaged engine, it would have been disintegrated. Zeros were notorious for their fragility."

I bought my copy today at Best Buy, single disc version. Why waste money on the 2-disc version 'cause for 10 bucks more I can get another movie.:)

Picked up the final copy from my local Best Buy....excellent!!
I remember seeing this movie in the theater when I was just entering my teens. Amazing picture quality considering the age of the film and the notoriously bad DVD version previously released.
Those trailers sure look and sound strange compared to current trailers.

Hamzahsh, is the single disc version in DTS, if not, that's why everyone is buying the 2-disc. If the single disc is in DTS, then your guess is as good as mine as to why people are buying the 2-disc. I myself, like the extra footage on the extended versions. Just a thought.

First off, every where I've seen the two there has been only a $5 difference between, not $10.
Yes, the single disk has dts:es. I bought the 2-disk because I wanted the interview with The Jolly Rogers F-14 figher squad plus the 2-disk is a limited release of 100,000 copies.

Wow, I haven't seen that movie in years, that's great! I hope I can locate a copy of that here locally, thanks for the information :)

Ron-P I work for Best Buy Canada and through my staff purchase it was a $10 difference but not for regular customers.
For regular customers the 2-Disc is a better buy. I can buy another DVD for the
same $10.
Just to be honest with you! :D
