As promised, as a follow up to the LSAF meet and for the local members that didn't get a chance to make it, or left their media at home, this is your LAST chance until Captial Audio Fest to hear the new LSiM.
My home will be open on THIS Saturday (the 21st) from 10am until whenever the suds and mash run out. If that happens to be 2am, I'm fine with that. I'll have the LSiM707 and LSiM703 setup and tweaked, in a large room at my house. This is your chance to get intimate with the speakers in a proper setting, and you can take as much time as you like with them. I'll also be using a much more expensive, and much more powerful amplifier than at LSAF.
Please post here or pm me for address / contact info - if possible, I'd like to have some sort of heads up from those planning to attend on estimated arrival times (if no one is showing up until mid afternoon, I'll find something else to do that morning). Basic refreshements will be here, soda, sammiches, beer etc. I'm even willing to assist with reasonable accomodations for out of towners or drunkards on a limited basis.
There will be a raffle for Blackstone speakers for those in attendance. I have a separate list of Polkies that attended LSAF, and I will hold a separate drawing for them also. TL2? TL3? Wireless F/X? Guess you will have to show up and see! I'd like to do the drawing with everyone, or at least a group here at the same time.
Any questions, pm or post here, I've already 'un-stuck' the LSAF thread, I'll 'stick' this one for a week - after that, it's all Capital Audio Fest and Polkfest.
Cheers,
Russ

I believe LSiM703 was on static display only during the show. So this would be a good chance to audition them.

Hey Russ.
I'm definitely in! Send me an address via PM. I was thinking to start about 2-3pm if that works out. Already had my Saturday reserved with my family
To all you guys - I suggest you take Russ up on this opportunity. This should be the next best thing to demoing LSiM in your home. I'll bring my Sony 555ES player with me to spin SACDs, so that's like double win! If not - I'll have Russ demo all to myself! MUHAHAHAHA!!!!

I've got so much other crap I need to be doing that day....
Screw it, I'm down for a couple hours or so. I'll have the wife drop me off and go shopping for a couple hours, or I'll sneak out while she's down at the pool :-)
Either way I'm in, and probably early afternoon works best for me as well, so RuSs put me on the list.

Should be a fan day. I plan on bringing a case of beer with me. If it's too low brow for you guys, I'll bring a bottle of a really cheap cognac
Russ, can you go over what the front end will be for the LSiMs? Is it also going to be wired with Cardas?
I just realized that Russ has chosen the 'end of the world' date for the Polk home Demo? I hope you have some appropriate tunes for that unprecedented display of Polk's NEW world-ending speakers! The LSI-Ms, that is!
Good call!
Enjoy yourselves!

Cognac? Gross.
The front end will be my best tube preamp, the Melos SHA-1 with matched Westinghouse 6922's, the BIG Operetta AP2300AX Class A amplifier, and the Operetta CD1000. I'll have slots open for other sources, I think someone wanted to hear SACD and is bringing a player.

I'm caddyng for a Pro-Am tourney at the Byron Nelson today, and am waiting for our turn to tee off so I thought I'd get on here and chat it up a little.
First off, my hat's off to Russ for throwing the shindig last night. I had a blast hearing those 707s and your 10s.
I finally hooked up the 703s this morning, and all I can say is if it's possible to marry an object, i wanna get hitched to these things. Just like last night's session with the 707s, there's ZERO listening fatigue. The highs are, at least in my opinion, a perfect balance between the RTi and LSi lines: not too laid back, but not bright either. Not to mention they look damn good. I was pleasantly surprised with the low-end as well. Keep in mind, my system is in my bedroom, and not a larger room like a den or living room, so that definitely helps my situation.
When I get some good listening time in, I'll give another writeup.
newsman
05-22-2011, 08:03 PM
Guys, I did a write up for my 707 impressions in the main Speaker forum. To get more detailed than that, you'll have wait until I hear them in my room. This will be a perfect comparison versus my LSi 15s.
Other that that, I want to report that if you had opportunity to show up for the meet and didn't - you only have yourself to blame. Russ gave plenty of heads up.

These are great looking speakers to go with the sweet sound. I was worried the bass more be overpowering but it was just right. Russ had them pulled out 3-4 feet from the wall. I'll gladly hook these up in the media room for an extended demo. I'm not sure my paltry 150x7 B&K is enough juice based on the previous postings on the board. I think it's safe to say the 300 wpc class A amp worked just fine. My media room is 25x15 so it should provide some insight for sound in larger rooms.
Funny side note. I was at the Bryon today as well. I just finished the round and I look up and see Jim heading out to get started. This is a small world.

The urgency for quick(er) demos is with the 703's. I will need to return those to Odie at a moments notice. The 707's are boxed up and while their return isn't looming as much as the 703's, I'd like to get them rotated fairly quickly to, to those interested that showed up for LSAF or the demo at my house this past weekend.
Just trying to spread the love while I can, but these are both marketing tools for our regional rep, and will be returned, again the 703's any day now, the 707's we might have for another couple of weeks.
Final note, if you do want to demo (and are in the group above), just email or pm me, and we will move on it, but it won't be an extended demo, and you need to be VERY mindful of the finish - these are marketing tools, just use kid gloves.
Cheers,
Russ

Well here's the rest. I had to upload them one at a time. I'm guessing something was getting lost in the data xfer between all this rain and my otherwise crappy connection to make it not work last night.
Russ, do you know if the 703s have been broken in prior to me getting them? I meant to ask how much, if any, playtime they'd logged before leaving the other night but Jim Beam does wonderful things to my responsibility and memory.

Sorry I could not make it last weekend but I had family obligations that kept me from attending. Please do put me down at least for the 703 and if possible 707 demos. Are speaker stands included in the demo equipment? I too felt that the room at LSAF was way too small for the 707 and want to hear them in a proper room. For me the 703 are closer to my price point and I am very interested in putting an ear on them.
I got a pair of the TL3 and plan to hook them up to my current system soon just to give them a listen until I can get my second system equipment. Have to deal with my bi-wire cables but I can make it work. Would like to add the center and watch a couple of movies on them too!
Russ, thank you for all the planning and effort you put out for these two meets. I had a great time hanging out and hearing all the awesome equipment at LSAF.
Edit to add, I was pretty humbled by all the audio knowledge and experience that was present at that meet. Made me realize how much I have to learn and how much farther I have to go in this hobby.

Cathy, you'd have to have a pretty small desk. They aren't that big.
Jim and Mark, you guys should coordinate. Yes, Mark, Jim has stands that I'm circulating with them - again, just be prepared for me to make a phonecall to you and arrange pickup on a day or two notice if need be. Keep me in the loop as to exactly where they are, but lets keep them moving.
Jim, I'll coordinate with Walter and see if he wants to go now on the 707's or possibly later. We can do a handofff/pickup tomorrow sometime possibly.

Cathy, you can see the backs of the the TL1/2/3 in the pictures above. In the picture showing the back the TL3 is on the left and does not have a key hole. It does have a screw connection on the back for speaker stands. My plan is to use them either in a second Music/Ht room or on my desk but my desk has enough room for them. If it helps my current desk speakers are m-audio av30's and the TL3 are more narrow by an inch or two.
Russ, I will PM you and Jim my cell phone number.

Nice work on the pics, Jim! First real close ups of the TL series and the 703s...a number of us had the pleasure of seeing the 707s in all their 'cosmetic' glory at P-Fest '10 as John describes so graphically above.

The 703 review is up in the speaker section! I'm about to give Mark a shout and let him get some time with the 703s. I'm definitely set on buying a pair.
LSiM 703 Review (http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=120007)
The TL-3s don't have a keyhole, but their center channel does. Those screw-in holes are really common for wall-mounts and some stands. I had a set of small speakers I used to run in my bathroom that I had mounted on a set of those mounts and it worked well. I can't think of the screw size/threading offhand, but it's extremely commonplace, so you shouldn't have trouble finding one way or another to get your TLs where you want them.
Russ, I'm handing the 703s off to Mark in about a half hour, so turn to him when they come a-runnin' for them.
Topper
05-24-2011, 06:52 AM
Does it have a keyhole slot for hanging?
the TL3 satellites are the only ones in the series that don't have the keyhole in the back but they do include all the extra hardware you need to wall-mount them so no worries there.

We can coordinate it amongst ourselves and just keep you informed on where they're at, if that will help you out some. We've got some time to spend with these, so no rush, per se, on getting them from person to person. The 703s however, should probably be a 48-60 hour max kinda thing since they'll have to go back soon.
P.S - I just left Mark a voicemail. I forgot to give him the grills yesterday when giving him the 703s and stands. I'll let you know if that changes any.

I just need to know who has them within the group that showed at LSAF and / or my house. Phone numbers, address if I don't have it etc. The point is to spread the love, but more importantly give Polk feedback by posting reviews - questions etc. Polk is asking for it, straight from engineering so keep it coming.
Lets just keep this thread going for the demo stuff as far as who has what. I want it all public.
JimAckley
05-24-2011, 12:35 PM
And once I get the TL250 set broken in and reviewed, as well as the TL3 center channel, I wouldn't mind passing them around to people who want to demo them in their own place. They're by no means the LSiM, but these little things aren't half bad for a small speaker. I'm almost considering grabbing two sets of TL350s just to try them out as a 9.1 setup

I got a text from Jim. If he's ready for them, I can wait.

You don't need to pick up those 703's from Mark, he should just be allowed to keep them.

The 707 Review is posted: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=120674
I'm gonna kick it with Marv tomorrow in Saginaw (by Ft. Worth) and would be more than happy to bring anyone else along for the ride. I can't stay too late, but I don't mind giving someone a ride to/from. I'm bringing the 703s, RT5s, and LSi7s. Should be a good show!

Halen get back here and listen to these things!!!
Walter, do you run your fronts full range or crossed?
Here's the pics from my phone. Sorry for the less-than-stellar quality. Speakers this beautiful only deserve the best DSLR cameras IMO.
I am finally back. Am in OKC right now and am heading back to Dallas tomorrow morning. Damn.. Those are some beauties..

I already miss those 703s haha. For the first time in over a month my LSi25s are pumping again. I'd forgotten how much these babies rock

Agreed. They were a pleasure to listen to. The 707's aren't chump change either. Both would make a marked improvement over my current setup.
