My buddy gave me an ADCOM GFA 555 (2 chl) stereo amp and I would like to hook it up to my Onkyo TX-DS575 (I don't think it has a "pre-out") to see if it makes any difference. I don't know how to start or what to connect what, does anybody has any idea how to get around with this? Your out-put is much appreciated.

Thanks....

Glenn

Well...

Don't know your Onk, but I assume pre-outs would not be hard to spot, so guess they are not there.

If you have a source with a variable output, e.g., CDP or DVDP, then you can go direct to the Adcom, eliminating the middleman.

Otherwise you're stuck with the fixed "tape out" outputs of your AVR, which will most likely not be sufficient to produce any ear pleasing volume.

Next option would be to ebay a 2 ch pre-amp. They are fairly plentiful and go fairly cheap. I follow very few, but do note a number of Carvers, C2's and such, near the bottom of my "sorted by highest price" search results. Many of these go for less than $50; some go as low as $20. Even a vintage Dynaco tube pre's, which I do follow, don't go far over $100.

Once a pre is in hand then your AVR tape outs to most any of the pre's inputs will put you in business.

You're welcome... and I hoped you thanked your buddy as well. The 555 is a very nice amp.

Tour, I wanted to ask you about the 555 amp if I should sell it and give some of the money to my friend or keep it?

sell it to me, and do what you think is fair with the money :D

the reason I asked is, I don't want to regret from selling it later on. Thank you for your interest fast100. I will try to contact you first before I'll post it here.

It's like this, you have a generous friend to give that to you, what you give/or not give to show your thanks is your option,

Far as selling the amp, you know your friend better than us, would he be mad for you selling it?

and if you keep it depends on if you really will ever get a better receiver or pre-amp or not anytime soon, if so.. keep it for later.

if not and your happy with your gear, sell it and take the money and get better suited upgrades for your system, ie: wire, interconnects, dvd player, what not..

or if you want a separete 2 channel rig later on, that would work great!!

just my 02 cents

ride on fast, I appreciate your input and interest on this. Like I promise, you'll be the first to know when I decided to sell the amp.

I am really sorry if I bother you guys but, there's one more question, I've been digging in my storage and found this Audio Source pre amp that I've kept God knows when? Do you think there's possibility to put this together? I need your advice on this pls.

Audio Source
Pre One/A
Stereo PreAmplifier
Power Consumption 3.5w/117VAC/60 HZ

Thanks,

Glenn

Sure, why not?

Onk's Tape out to the AudioSource's Tape In or Aux In and you'll be in business.
