Just signed up for Dishnetworks HD-PAK (Discovery HD Theater, HDNet, HDNet-Movies, & ESPN-HD)! Programming goes on the air 9-16-03. Since I signed up for a 1 year subscription I get the Enhanced HD (8VSB) adapter for free.
If you are in the market to get into DBS now is the time. Dish is offering the model 6000 receiver for $199 with a 1 year subscription to the HD-Pak.
More good news! The model 921DVR is supposed to be available around the end of October/ first part of November! It is the only DVR that can record and playback HDTV! MSRP is $999.

I am finishing my new theater room right now. I can't wait to get the HD up and running.
Since I don't have the 6000 now I will get the new 811 receiver. Dish Network is doing some great stuff. Now if only they would do a straight across trade. my 501 for the new 921.

Got my enhanced HDTV adapter today, E* shipped it 2nd day-UPS! So far the only channel that I've been able to see is Discovery HD Theater, Spectacular to say the least!! The other 3 channels are supposed to be "on-air" Sept. 16, 03.

After the $199 how much is it per month for the cheapest package including the hdtv channels? I'm not really into it until next summer but it sounds interesting.

The least expensive package runs $25/month. The HD-Pak is 9.5/month or you can sign up for a 1 year subscription for $109. Here's a link for ya.

I could actually handle $25 a month. I kinda figured the HDTV stuff would turn it into 40 to 60 per month which I am unwilling to handle. Funny, I don't mind paying a one time fee but I stay away from monthly payments like the plague.

I know what you mean, that's why I went with the 1 year offer.
FWIW, I made the jump to DBS (Dishnetwork) more than 5 years ago from cable and have not regretted my decision at all. Better picture and quality, variety, and customer service/support.
