View Full Version : LSiM707 Demo Gathering San Diego

07-31-2011, 01:44 PM
Mark has graciously offered me the opportunity to pick up the LSiM707's from Polk in Vista and I am opening up my home for fellow Polkies to get their ears on them.

No date is set yet but I plan to have the gathering some time in August so that the speakers can make their way eastward in a reasonable time. For starters, please post your interest and weekend dates you are available.

Since I won't get the speakers until sometime this week and need some time to get them dialed in, I'm thinking that Saturday the 20th is a reasonable date. That will allow enough time to pull this off and make it a success.

I'm hoping for a big turnout. There's plenty of room. The speakers will be in a 20' x 30' listening area and there is plenty of parking so let's make this a big event.

Best regards,
doug

The 20th looks good to me. The wife will be out of town so I don't even need to ask permission. Just find a sitter for the kids "hello grand parents".

As far as gear is concerned, I plan to have these set up with the following:

Anthem Pre2L tube preamp
Dual Parasound HCA-1200ii SS amps; Provides 250Wpc @ 8Ohms
Marantz SA-15S2 SACD player
MIT Shotgun S3 IC's
Signal Cable Magic Power Cords connected to a PS Audio Power Port Premier

Nice to haves if other members can help out:
MIT Shotgun S3 Speaker cables (I currently have MIT T2 cables)
Another power amp to switch out for comparison (200Wpc@8Ohms minimum)
Solid State Preamp for comparison.
Redbook and SACD's
Concert DVD's (in case someone wants to test drive the SRT's)

If my monoblocks are working by then, I will bring them along with my Sunfire tube pre and my PX-3

Guys, no pissing on anything, but try and keep this LSiM focused, not just another Polk gathering. SRT, SDA, Monitors, RT, etc have all already had their day. This is a NEW day. What Polk is doing here is unprecedented. Rock it. Rock it hard with LSiM and enjoy the opportunity given.

Give real, honest, thought out feedback, that's the payment Polk HQ wants in return.

Cheers,
Russ

That is absolutely the intent. I'm looking for a group of people to attend that will make the committment to a full day of getting the most out of the LSiM's.

That said, I won't turn down a request from anyone who wants to hear the SRT's. Even though they 'had their day', they are a speaker worth experiencing and I'm guessing the opportunity doesn't present itself very often to most members.

Possibly SRT, LSiM707 and LSi25 side by side Demo?

Who knows, you'll hand me over the SRT and kept LsiM707 instead.

It is possible the next guy picking up from you will be in serious trouble.

You got Lsi25 or can anyone bring a pair?

nooshinjohn
08-04-2011, 03:45 PM
It would not be complete without testing them against a few others. I understand this is all about the LSiM's, but I think that waht everyone want's to know is how well do they stack up against the past and against other brands.

Norm Apter has attended the last two gatherings and has a stellar pair of modded LSi9's that would make a great comparison. Haven't heard from him yet though.....

I agree. The nice thing about my preamp is that it has two sets of pre-outs so we could actually switch quickly between speakers if need be. My third Parasound would provide an identical amplifier for the comparison speakers making it a very fair evaluation.

I'll try and answer all of the questions in one post:

Better pictures are coming, I promise. I can't take them in the evening because the sun comes in the windows directly behind them and it's hard to get pictures early AM before work while the family is still sleeping.

Review will be coming as well but I honestly don't want to do a review until the speakers are properly broken in. These are brand new and while I hear them starting to open up, I think they will open up even more over the next few days.

Yes, they are in the master bedroom. Size: 30' X 20'

Pushing them with dual Parasound HCA-1200ii's at 250WPC

Whoever takes these will need a good sized vehicle. The boxes are BIG and they are leaving here IN the boxes.

Each box is L55 x W26.5 x H17.5

I am going to spend some time this evening figuring out the date. It sounds like most are good for Saturday or Sunday and I have 2 members that can't do one day or the other. Makes it a bit difficult. I'm leaning towards Saturday simply because if I hold it on a Sunday, most people have to get home at a decent hour to get to work on Monday which means cutting the day shorter.

I know Erik Tracy can't make it on a Saturday but since he is local, I'll work out a day for him to come over and have a listen to them.

More to come soon.

BTW, they sound amazing.

Just a reminder as to how large these suckers really are. Here's a pic of them in the bed of my Silverado Crew Cab.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b354/JimtheSubGod/LSiM%20707%20Review/BedOfMyTruck.jpg

They run pretty much the length of the bed. You better bring a van, pickup, or full-size SUV if you wanna chauffeur them home.

Erik Tracy had a 3 hour sneak preview of the LSiM's on Sunday.

Did I leave anyone out?

I like the idea of bringing in ready to eat food vs. BBQing tends to take a lot of time which takes away face time with the gear. I was thinking that we could do a group pizza buy as one option. My wife in her usual awesome response to my audio adiction has offered to make some food as well.

As I've done with previous gatherings, I'm good with people bringing in drinks of choice. I personally don't drink alcohol but am cool with others bringing in drinks as long as it's consumed in moderation. I'll let you guys figure out the drinks.

Great Left, glad to hear you can make it!

I was thinking that ordering some pizza's might be the most convenient way to go and we can split the cost between us. All we'd need to do then is assign some duties for snacks/side dishes if desired, drinks, paper plates and cups.

Guys,
If you're still subscribed to this, thought you might like to know what the issue was with the right surround channel when we were listening to PFDSOTM SACD in 5.1 mode. I unplugged that speaker from the amp and plugged it into the right stereo front channel to see if it was the speaker or the amp. Ends up, the speaker is fine but apparentely that channel on the amp has died. :(
