Now, this will be a tricky question to answer. I really wonder what people will say. Someone would have to have the Marantz SR7005 to compare since they both have $1600 retail prices.
I couldn't think of a person with either one of these fine AVR's that would get rid of one to try the other.
I think some people will say the Marantz sound better because of it traditional A/B amps. However, Home Theater Mag rated the Pioneer Elite SC-37 as a top pick and said it D-class ICE where in par with the best A/B amps out there.
Both the Marantz SR7005 and Pioneer Elite SC-37/35 or top picks for HT mag. The only difference is that the SC's make more power in every mode be it 2 ch, 5 ch, 7 ch.
I have never heard both at the same time so I can't say. I do know that only one is on sale for less than $800 at Costco. The SC-35.
At that price if you are looking for a AVR to run you 2 channel and not a Pre and amp, it can hurt to try at these prices.

I own Marantz, Denon, and Onkyo and have not listened to a Pioneer Elite. Your points are why I asked.
Thanks
