Question about Monitor 70 Series II

I am about to buy the monitor 70 Series II from newegg or the Monitor 70 from Polk but I need some help. My wife is very particular about color mismatch around the house and she wants me to get a Cherry colored speaker WITH BLACK speaker grill. I am trying to find out which one has a black grill and has a foot spike that cab be used on a thick carpet ? Thanks.

BTW, any sound signature difference between the two ? Speakers will be used for HT only and will be mated with Mirage OM line center and surround. Another line I was looking at is the Infinity P363. Which will be a better match with the Mirage ? My receiver is Onkyo SR805 and the room has thick carpeting.

You really should have the front three speaker match from the same mfg, and seires. Other wise you can notice differences in the way a voice sounds as you it moves across the front sound stage.

You might also consider going up to the RTI line and running a smaller speaker. Running large speakers of a avr and not a dedicated amplifer is not the Ideal situation.

Something like a RTI A5 or RTI A7's. They have real cherry wood veneer instead of vinyl graphics. They look real nice and can be had at a pretty good price from Polks Ebay store. They are mfg referbished but most comment that the products they recieved looked bran new.

They dont have any Cherry RTI A7's on there now but the black ones are listed at $700 a pair. They would be in the same boat as the monitor 70's being a little large for just AVR power, but they are a real nice speaker.

Ethire way you will still need a sub for home theater, so dont buy a big tower thinking you wont need to a sub.

Thanks for your reply. I have had many receiver and amp and unless you have a very inefficient speakers receiver will drive most speaker fine. I had no problem driving the Pok Lsi9 with my Onkyo 805. My mirage tends to match well with at least three different brands I have tired it with, the Polk Lsi9, Revel Performa, and Mirage OMD-28. Anyways, this is for a very temporary setup until the construction on my new house is done. I just sold my entire Revel Perform setup and looking for use and give away speakers so I am only willing to spend no more than $400 for a pair. Do you know the color of the grills on the monitor line ?

The Cheery 70 from newegg is really nice looking. My wife didn't like the looks of the cheery 30's but loves the 70's.

I have fairly thick carpeting where my set up is and the 70's are a just a tad unstable. If nobody will be bumping into them on a regular basis, you should be fine, or maybe consider some type of coasters for the feet. I haven't looked into whether the spikes are replaceable or not, if that were the case, some deeper carpet spikes would be ideal.

Sound signatures, they are the same speaker. The SII is a newer model with cosmetic upgrades only. The original Monitors have a silver cabinet face, the SII has a black one, very attractive IMO

Yeah, I'll second the motion that the 70's are pretty stable on carpet. They have almost a teardrop shape plastic "spike" design to them. Unless you've got dogs that jump, or little kids - you're probably safe without the spikes.

As for the finish - without seeing any decent "real wood" speakers, you would not be able to tell by looking at these from more than 6 inches away that they were vinyl. They are textured, and don't have any odd woodgrain issues that would indicate obvious fake. I/We can post up some closer, more detailed pictures if you wanted to see something other than stock photos

Thank you. The pictures from newegg are good enough. I don't plan to keep them for too long anyways. I wanted to keep the domestic harmony and buy what the wife would like.

Mr. dvdit, I took a look at the bottom of my 70's and the feet are held on by two small cross point screws. It appears that a guy could maybe interchange to something to accomodate some deep carpet if needed.
