Ok I am trying to decided what reciever I want to go with.
These are what I have in mind but dont be afraid to add!
Yamaha - RX - 671 or A710
Pioneer - VSK 1021k - 299 NEWEGG Black Friday special....
Denon - 1912
I am trying to stay around 400. Dont need airplay but would be nice. I do want a GUI and decent power. Running 2Moniter 70s/psw 505 sub, CS2 Center and 2 OWM 3s.
Thanks for the help!
I hate to say this, but I wouldn't go any lower than the TOTL Pioneer. The VSX-1121
Good power, good sound, pre-outs and all the features you currently need! Yeah, it's going to cost you some 'more'!

I'll second that. Listen to cnh, its very good advice. Look at used if you want to save some money.

I also have a yamaha rx-v2400. not just a pioneer fan . the sc series is just a really good receiver.

How about the Yamaha RX-A710?
chumlie
11-20-2011, 11:40 AM
if you plan on upgrading later you may want to look at the rx-a810. it has preouts for later upgrades plus a little more power. just a suggestion if you lookin at yamaha.

Pioneer vsx-1120-k refurbished on amazon rite now $360 + $42 shipping. has preouts, power, and for two buck over you $400 limit. the reason everyone says make sure it has prouts is if you decide to add an amp later and believe me it makes a HUGE differance.

1020? Never looked at that one. Are we a no go on the RX-671?
I guess I worry about the Moniter 70s

I mean the 1120k. Looks good. Is it out dated though?

Your best sounding choice would be a separate preamp and amps.

Does the Denon 1912 have pre-outs?
chumlie
11-20-2011, 04:56 PM
1120k is not outdated. For your stated budget thats what i would go with. And of corse separates would be better but not with your budget will you be able to get them. Get 1120k now and add amplifier when you can afford one. Just my opinion.

Thats for the education guys. Really glad I asked. Funny how most reviews and adds fail to mention pre-outs which to me seem like a big issue if you want to future proof.
I also see I can get a Yamaha RX-A800 pretty cheap and DOES have pre-outs. I think im down to that and the 1120k. Do you guys have a preferance? I want to get one of these in the mail soon!
Thanks

Used Pioneer SC-25 is definitely in your budget. Buy this now if the funds are available. This things is immaculate. Has preouts, can power any system you throw at it with ease, plus tons of bells/whistles to tickle you for days on end. It is a networked receiver and can do internet radio and stream audio over your network. You will be very happy you scored this one.

1120k. We're pretty Pioneer biased here, simply because they sound the best with the type of speakers we generally run. Also there is a myriad of options that we like with Pioneer.
I would go with the 1120k personally. I ran a 1019 previously and loved it. Now I run an Elite...and it was well worth the long wait (years...)

Its a good price on the sc-25. You can make an offer for less. Worse that could happen is he says no.

That is a good price and the very last thing he says is "Price is FIRM!" So he will say no if you lowball it.

Both are Pioneer fans I see? Anyone else?Well I am a Yamaha fan but what is offered to you is so you dan drive the 70s with decent power and the Elites are also known for very good receivers.
I also have a yamaha rx-v2400. not just a pioneer fan . the sc series is just a really good receiver.Exactly!
How about the Yamaha RX-A710?Nope, you will not get the maximum out of your 70s!
if you plan on upgrading later you may want to look at the rx-a810. it has preouts for later upgrades plus a little more power. just a suggestion if you lookin at yamaha. If you do not want to pay now, you'll eventually pay later by adding external amps. Also, for many Yamaha receivers are not the best match with Polk speakers.

Also, the 70s could benifit greatly from an external amp.
That is a good price and the very last thing he says is "Price is FIRM!" So he will say no if you lowball it.Odd, it says obo at the top of the page and firm at the bottom however, definitley agree it is a great price right from the basic add.

Sorry. I didn't see the firm on bottom of ad. Still a killer price.

Yea I am thinking of going with the 1120 k. I see amazon has one. I def want pre outs now. The SC-25 is great but I dont know if I trust buying online so much. Although I did find a 1120k brand new for under 400 on ebay. Im going to wait and see if there are any sales for Black Friday. I hate waiting.....

Can't go wrong waiting till friday. I think you'll be happy with the 1120k on your budget. Keep us posted.

I would suggest the denon 1912, Yeah it doesnt have pre outs but it does have network capibility. The ability to download a denon control app for the ipod touch. Internet radio, Audyssey and several other features. And I would contend if you are not playing at outragous levels the 1912 would do great in your case. If you can muster up a little extra cash the denon 3311 would be a great choice, I bet you could pick up a very nice used one that is a floor modle or slightly used for around 600-700 if pre outs are a must. I peresonally love the sound and tone out of the denon's, They are the best I have heard for the money. just my .02

1120k still at Amazon. $359 refurbished + $42 shipping.

Hey guys sorry to add yet another reciever to the mix. What do you think of the Onkyo NRTR-708? Last years model of the 709. It DOEs have pre-outs. 399 refurb.
Jp381242
11-23-2011, 01:44 PM
Also how much of a sound diffrence am I really going to hear coming from my old Yamaha RX-V463? I just want to make sure its worth it. I know the receivers were going over offer far more features but of course its sound quality thats the most important.

Agreed.
Nix the Denon, why limit yourself / set yourself up for disappointment down the line?

I would love to if it didnt cost as much. I may get a refurb on amazon. I think it only has a 90 day warrenty. I like the Yamaha because its about 450 new. Has pre outs. Ill have to see what black Friday brings.
chumlie
11-23-2011, 04:38 PM
Also a pioneer elite vsx-33 on amazon. refurb for $399 30 day warrenty. a little nicer than 1120. generaly if it works when you buy it. it will work without incident. if choice between pioneer or yamaha get the pioneer. i have both and like pioneer better.

Lower yamahas sound like crap. I had the 563 and moved to an older harman kardon 240 that sounded outstanding compared to the yammy. I now have an older onkyo integra dtr 9.1 that puts them both to shame. Go pioneer as that's your best option listed. Get one with preouts. It will help resale value too.

Newegg had the RC370, which is darn close to the 709 (same DACS, preouts, a little less power), for $280 a couple of weeks ago. I almost bought it just because... If you're patient I'm sure they will run the deal again. They always do. I love Onkyos but I would not mess with an Onkyo Refurb.

My friend has the Denon 1912; he got it because of AirPlay functionality. Don't know about the other receivers but he said it's a good deal for the $$$.
