Is there such an animal? Need new receiver, music listening only. All receivers seem to be more designed for HT. Paying for a lot of extra's that won't be used. Room (LV) is about 14x14 with open stairway. Budget is $1500ish. Any recommendations? Don't mind paying, but would like some value.

Find a two channel receiver...like a NAD. A lot of people use the HK 3490 as well. For your price? Most people go with an integrated amp.

Pioneer has a couple pretty good units in their Elite line...

Separates. With that kind of budget, no reason not to.

Yes, seperates is the path if you want to spend money. I just did a quick check on two-channel receivers, and Audio Advisor has either lower cost receivers, or they have built-in CD or DVD players.

NAD gets my vote.

Some people want simplicity....but I agree, separates is the way to go. Reference CD player, pre, amp.

Does the OP really want a receiver (i.e., pre-amp, power amp, and [FM] tuner in one box)? I am guessing "no", so I will suggest that a good performance value option was and still is an integrated amplifier. Still some nice ones available at reasonable price points from NAD, Marantz, Yamaha, Cambridge Audio, etc. ... or there's always vintage :-)

When you say 'receiver' - do you mean that you need a built in FM section for 'radio'?
And do you also mean that you want multi-channel as well for a 5.1 'music only' setup?
Or is a 2-channel component for music only what you are looking for?

Check this one out...it's always has received stellar reviews...http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/rr2150.html. If that doesn't float your boat then an integrated is the way to go. A HT receiver would give you too many bells & whistles you would never use. The suggestions so far on integrated amps is solid. Do some homework on all suggestions. Good luck! Bye the way...what speakers did you wind up with?

With a $1500 budget I would go with a really good integrated amp and then let the tuner battle sort itself out. I would probably connect up a SqueezeBox Touch that lets you stream radio stations from the internet.
One of the best receivers in that sub-1000 dollar range is the Outlaw Phil lists above. Otherwise with a budget like 1500 you could get some really nice stuff from NAD or Cambridge Audio. A decent integrated and matching tuner. That would serve you well!
What speakers are you going to drive with that?

What are your listening habits, and what type of music do you listen to?

Thanks all for the reply's. It will definately be seperates. I like to listen to CD's, and music from Satellite mostly. The whatever will be pushing KEF XQ40's, unless someone convinces me they're not the speakers for me. Haven't ordered or bought anything yet,to be honest I've been overwhelmed by the various choices.
Perhaps my choice of words is wrong. Instead of receiver perhaps I should say a tuner (?), something that receives music, and is tunable to other channels (of music). I have O interest in HT, had it once didn't like it. I have a Yamaha RX-V870, but it lacks the pre-outs, and cannot drive the 40's, or so I'm told. The $1500ish is just for the receiver/tuner.Thx. guys.
