Bought the new Sharp 70' Aquos Quattron. Pleased with most aspects of it so far, with the exception of one glaring problem. It is connected to my HT setup with an HDMI cable and it emits a slight hum through my front channels. It does this even with the TV turned off. As soon as the HDMI is disconnected it disappears. Never had this issue with either of the two previous TV's that have been a part of this setup. Any thoughts? Any help is greatly appreciated, the hum hurts my little OCD soul.

Leave everything connected and turn off the amp and see if the hum goes away. I would suspect this to be an amp issue, but if in fact the problem is with the TV try a different HDMI cable. May even try a ferrite core and see if it helps.

Try a different HDMI cable first. Are your TV and AVR plugged into the same circuit?

All good ideas. Tried them all, while swapping HDMI finally narrowed it down the the cable box and not the TV. Ran the cable through my power center and out to the box, hum gone. Never had this issue before. Glad it is resolved either way, it was making me insane. Girlfriend said " what hum". Go figure.

I also have an Aquos, a cable box, and a Denon AVR which is passing video to the TV. No hum issues here. I've read that certain cable boxes are notorious for generating hum. Glad you found the culprit.

Cable is one of the most common causes of ground loop hum. Usually the cable isn't grounded properly where it enters the house. You can have this happen with or without a cable box.

Sounds like you had a ground loop problem. Sometimes trying a different power outlet will solve the problem, but you already fixed it anyway :)

Cable is the cause of the hum in my system (when I have it hooked up), so try to run optical if you have the opportunity to separate the electrical systems.

That sounds about right...
