Although that fact it'll be at HQ (in Baltimore) has been known for a bit now, this is the first official information post regarding it. Stay tuned, clear the schedule, it'll be a great time.

Well I'm terrified to fly. Seen too many "crashes" to make me want to drive anywhere. It's a very touchy subject that holds me back... yet I LOVE aircraft and the concept of flying...

Yes, in Baltimore at Polk HQ on Friday. You will get a tour and see all kinds of really cool stuff Polk uses to design, test and make prototypes. You will also get to demo current speakers and maybe some in the works. You will be treated to a fantastic lunch and most likely live music played by some of the guys at Polk. Friday night a bunch of folks will go out to dinner. Saturday, the real party starts and continues into the night. Sunday, you go home having a new appreciation for the good people at Polk and the products they make. You will also (hopefully) have made some new friends.

Who's got the shortest drive. Mapquest says 12.5 miles door to door for me. I know Scott and Tony are closer, but I think I have the simplest route: left out of the driveway, right on to the main street in the neighborhood, left onto Belair Rd (not to be confused with Blair Rd), right onto Northern Parkway and a right into HQ. I may park on the street to take a turn out of the equation, I have the short term of a goldfish. Hey! Look, a castle!

My parole office says I can attend Polkfest as long as there are no felons on the premises. I told him that these felons don't know polyswitches from premises so I should be safe.

Besides, after buying Larry's wonderful rings, Gimpod's great boards, Mike's plethora of excellent gaskets, some MIT cables and a bunch of mystery parts from Sonic Craft and Mills, (...just what the devil is that round white thing with wires sticking out?) I thought I should consider maybe buying some speakers now. - greybeard

All the recommendations can be found in the historical threads about Polkfest here at HQ from previous years. 2005 was the first one at HQ.

I'll put together another more formal thread this month. As far as multiple people staying in heh same location, you guys will really have to start talking to one another and get a plan together. We've tried to recommend and help guide people to stay in the same place and half the folks don't listen, can't commit at the same time and it's just general confusion since everyone is in a different stage of commitment at this time.

Just get your stuff together, decide if you're coming or not and post your interest here. If you can't decide whether you're coming or not by the end of the month, your not coming so accept it and help those that are nail down some lodging.

Historically, there's about a 25% attrition rate in the final tally of attendees. Some people will talk for MONTHS about how they can't wait and how awesome it's going to be, which it is, and then never show up. This is usually followed by endless statements of they hate their lives and why why? why! or damn my grandmother for deciding to die that week, etc etc.

This is a huge event for Polk beings it's the anniversary and will most likely be the last for homebase events. If you're going to make one of the famous Polkfests, this is one you have to be a part of. The second one I'd highly suggest never missing down the road is the South Carolina Polkfest's. They set the bar for all others to be judged, are always the most memorable and most supported by Polk.

Start deciding and telling your wife now, that you WILL be going and she's gonna have to strap in and work out the details.

My personal suggestion is to come in on Thursday so you can meet up with local Polkies, get a nice dinner with the early crowd in a smaller venue and atmosphere and leave Sunday afternoon. As far as quick lodging, stay at/near BWI Airport if you're flying in and if you're carpooling, stay within 15 minutes of the HQ. Do not fly into Dulles or Reagan. Neither is convenient in any way, especially Dulles.

If you need a rental car, contact Warlocks1.

Good idea. At the very least we could try to get on the same flights so we can share cabs or a rental car, etc. Let's see how things shape up as more details come out. Then we can discuss finalizing plans...

Will most people be flying in on Thursday, and leaving on Sunday?

Here's (http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?63145-POLKFEST-2008-Information&daysprune=-1) a link to the '08 PF logistics thread.

IIRC, most stayed at the Hilton in Pikesville. There are absolutely no good bars around there, however.

In other news, Tony Romo's is no longer open. Anyone wishing to perform the green apple quickstep after dinner will need to find somewhere else to eat.

i'm down to stay at whatever hotel is reasonably priced and where the majority of the attendees are staying. It's great being in the same place as other members.. then when guest arrive.. you can stand outside and try to match faces with names.. it's a hoot... no one ever looks like their nickname.... I'm the exception of course.

Mark is right for once... decide to be a part of this event and make it happen. If you don't have funds right now.. well find a way and save up for the trip. There are right now over 6 months to raise the coins and plan ahead. This is an event you MUST plan ahead for.. doing things last minute will usually not turn out as planned. I've never understood why some people within driving distance can't make it to PF. I fly literally cross country and still have made 2
Polkfests. So if I can make it happen I'm sure other's can as well.. esp if you live within driving distance.

I fly in on Thurs.. meet up with who ever else is checking into the hotel and we go out for dinner and drinks. IT's great getting to see familiar faces and long lost pals from the site. It's a brotherhood of sorts.

Plan ahead and make it happen. Don't be the one to regret not going. You will kick yourself once you hear the great stories and see the pics. You can quote me on that.

I hope we get some new faces this year at PF12, I'm not sure how many more of these with RuSsMaN I can handle.

Think of it this way.... this is the Super Bowl of Polk gatherings.. you would never miss the Super Bowl would you? lol

PolkFest - we're working on it.

September will be here in a blink and we are working on plans for PolkFest. Over the next few weeks, I'll be passing along the agenda and additional details. As we will be celebrating our 40th anniversary, I can promise this Polkfest will be special.

The festivities will start at our Baltimore headquarters at 10 am on Friday, September 21st where there will be tours, demos, peaks behind the curtain, etc. You can get as geek as you want. And as a special bonus, you will have the opportunity to abuse Patrick in person. If you have the stomach for more, the party gets serious on Saturday at a yet to be named location.

If you're looking for places to stay, Toni has put a hold on a block of 25 rooms at the Hilton Pikesville. Dates held are 9/20, 9/21, 9/22 and 9/23. The rate is $120.00. You can call and book yourself. Mention "Polk Audio/Polk Fest" and ask to book under the room block for September. Rooms will be held until Sept 6th.

Pikesville Hilton
1726 Reisterstown Road
Pikesville, MD 21208
410-653-1100

I'm planning on this, got the week off and will just have to book the room and flight.

Can't wait to see everyone that I haven't been able to meet in person yet.

I like when I tell people I'm going to Polkfest...they are like Polk? and then they stop asking questions...

Lots of buzz on this. HQs really makes this almost "obligatory". But, I don't have my class schedule for next semester in hand yet. And moving the Fest from its October slot throws a bit of a wrench in the works, because the old date used to coincide with our two day fall break?

Friday is the open house in Baltimore. Saturday is the usual type of Polkfest festivity and I wouldn't call it private per se but it's not a free for all like the Project X movie. That's usually talked about offline and at the Friday event beings the host has yet to be determined officially but I'm pretty sure I know where it will be. You're all making me jealous! Here I am sitting in my "rehab" boot with a mending torn Achilles. Had originally planned to come down depending on work schedule. But now it's a week by week wait. Next official visit to the surgeon is August 8th. I'm trying to get the OK to be cleared for a drive of that distance! So fingers crossed. Of course, because of all of this, I haven't made any plans. Are there still hotel rooms that can be booked a bit more "last minute"?

Will know in another week or so. I also have to get the old Impala through its inspection. No easy task as it continues to "rust" out!
But 40 years is "something" I'd hate to miss. For those of you that have seen the new Batman film, I'm kind of like the gimpy Bruce Wayne with the cane at the beginning of the film at the moment. lol

Eh, been there, seen that, was actually hoping for someone else to step up this time.

But no, unless things change, it's probably going to be a Saturday departure for me. Because of my work schedule, and the fact that i need to wait til after Oct. 1 for my personal/sick time to be reset, Sunday is almost impossible. If you look elsewhere for rooms, I'd suggest staying away from anything on Baltimore National Pike (AKA Rt. 40). Get's a bit hairy down that end of town.

I added everyone up, and so far we're sitting at about 45 Club Polk members planning to come out the 'Fest. That's not including significant others, so we should have quite a crowd!

Add me to the list. Originally, I had something for work on that day that I could not get out of, but it has been moved.

Looks like I can get the time off, so now to see what reservation prices look like. Anyone have an itinerary of what's happening on Fri/Sat, so I know what to look for for flights & room?

Are the Pikesville Howard Johnson & Ramada Inn just horrible? Anyone staying there?

Can't vouch for those hotels specifically, but the area is good.

In addition to the Pikesville Hilton listed by strider above, here are 3 more just a few miles further away (right off I-795) in a more suburban area.

The Hilton Garden Inn and the Hampton Inn are located right next door to each other and across the street are a number of restaurants. The Hampton Inn is literally brand new.

Any of these hotels are within an easy driving distance to Polk HQ, which is located at
5601 Metro Drive
Baltimore, MD 21215

Form your own opinion. Personally, I wouldn't stay at either one.

I am tempted to travel the 1200 miles(1 way) just to see if the rumours are true that Jesse does not
come out during daylight hours.
And possibly touch his hair (everybody has a dream, eh?).
Just have to find some silver bullets first.

JK Jesse!
I know your bodyguards would not let me get that close, LOL!

OK, what exactly goes on at this here Polkfest? I'm not really in the market to purchase more speakers at the moment. I can easily make the ride down from the Phila area Friday or Saturday. Is this more like a business convention or a block party? I'd be interested in getting some Polk shirts and hats. I have 2 hats now but don't really like the design. Is this open to the public or mostly industry? I'm confused...
Sorry for my ignorance.

If you're that "close" there IS NO excuse for not coming. As far as what happens I think if you look at the pics in the showcase site that should give you a pretty good idea of previous Fests. A "business convention" is the "last" thing you should think this is. Think of it more like an Audio Mardi Gras or Carnival and you'll be a lot closer!

So are Saturday's events going to be at the Headquarters? Its tough to get straight info here. One person suggest that Saturday is not open to everybody.

I was thinking about driving down and getting there around noon or so and hanging til early evening...

Saturday's location is still to be announced I believe. It is open to all attendees as long as you give me the $5 admission fee. Please try to have exact change when you get there.

No, Saturday's Polkfest party information will be passed out to those that attend the Friday event at Polk HQ. At least that's how it was done the last time.

Will there or can there be a swapmeet at the fest?

What we have is a raffle that benefits the Githens Center, so bring something for that.

There goes my Polkfest! The company decided to enroll me in a week long (Mon - Fri) training class that is pretty much mandatory for several of us...and it's that week. I was really hoping to snuggle up to Grabass Grand in the back of that van, but it wasn't meant to be.

For all of the new guys coming to Polkfest..

If you are planning on bring your own gear please note it is a mandatory that you do NOT bring a remote for your gear, does not matter if the unit is inoperable without it - we dont need it... and for the record it DOES take three people to operate a cd player
