If you don't get a quick response, try the troubleshooting forum. There's some Polk employees that monitor that puppy.

Hello Dr. J,
What happens if you remove the connecting cable from the back of your receiver? Does the thumping sound change? If so what happens if you remove the cable from the rear of the subwoofer?
Regards, Ken

When in STANDBY (orange light) it does not thump, then I switch it to AUTO (orange light) it does not thump, then when ON (green light) it starts thumoing. And this is even when the speaker cable is removed.

Hello,
In all likelihood there is a problem with the sub's bass amplifier. The best approach would be to remove the amp from the enclosure, package it up and send it to: Polk Audio Factory Service, 1 Viper Way, Vista, CA. 92081. Please include a note giving them your name, address, a daytime telephone number and a copy of your sales receipt. The service guys will quickly send a replacement. To remove the amp you would unplug the AC power cord and take out the screws that go around the circumference of the amplifier's input plate. Then use a putty knife to loosen the amp away from the cabinet and disconnect the two wires that are attached to the 8" woofer.
Sory you're having a problem.
Ken
