OK my neighbor came over and added an internal 3tb hard drive to my system that i will use for my music. My question is-should i move my JRiver and Squeezebox programs over to the new drive or just leave them where they are?
Any other tips on what could or should be on this new drive for music only?
Thanks

That is what I do on my Mac Mini, 1.5tb drive for just music. Itunes and Amarra on system drive. I can not speak to on how to handle a PC based music srever but I imagine that is way you would do it on a PC.

Try to jusy have your music, and maybe your playlists directories. My external HDD is simply:
D:\Music
D:\Playlists
That's it, there's nothing else on the HDD.

Same as Steveinaz here. My music HD is on my "D:" drive. It won't negatively affect performance if it's on a dedicated drive while the program that play these files is on the system drive (for example, C:). In fact, having a dedicated music HD is probably better as there is less fragmented files, access is faster (files are easily found by your system).
Just add your files on your drive, add your drive to your media programs list and you're good to go!

Ditto
Leave the "programs" off the HD and just use it for storage.

Moved just the music files into the new drive and rescanned my SB.All looks great so far.
I have deleted the files from the first drive freeing up an immense amount of space. Now i just need to get the ballz to empty the recycle bin.lol

Be sure and back everything up
Be sure and direct the SQB to the new location of your files
Be sure to use the new path when you rip new music.

If you were currently ripping cd's to X:/music server/artist and you changed drives or root directories you know have to "point" your ripping program to the new location.

Is it a one time "point" or do i need to watch it each time?
Last question i promise.
