Picked up season one on blueray tuesday. Absolutly great show. Acting, sets, story and beautiful on blueray. If you like any of the above this is a must have for your collection. Best HBO show since The Wire IMO. Any Lord of the Rings fans will love this show. Any fans of The Wire too. Great storytelling and acting. Way better than the crap at the theatre's now days. 10 hrs of enjoyment for $35 is hard to beat. This one i will watch over and over its that good. Can't wait for season 2.

I really enjoyed the series. What I am concerned is that the story was originally supposed to be a trilogy. When the books became popular, it was changed to a six volume set. Now the author is expanding it to eight volumes or novels. I hope he is not milking the storyline for profits....

I watched Season one with no prior knowledge of George R.R. Martin or the books. Got totally hooked - one of the best shows I've seen on TV or the movies. Unbelievable writing/acting/directing/and especially casting.

Then I read the other 4 books (5 so far with a 6th in work). Don't know how to describe them other than to say they're stunning. Never read any fiction with so many characters and subplots. It's sort of a Lord of The Rings for adults: sex, violence, magic, violence, supernatural. And. . . . .dragons!

I thought episode one, season two was a good show, if a little short. Great to get reacquainted with some of the main characters. I think it'll be more fun for me to watch now that I know the story line having read all the books. I won't have to work so hard to figure out the meaning of lines of dialog that are seemingly throw away, but really of great importance.

Tyrion might be my favorite character.

She's very clever in the way she chooses! One tough little girl.

In the books all the characters are young since few lived to a ripe old age back then. Rob: 16 yo; Arya 8 or 9 yo; Sansa 13 yo.

Loved episode 6 last night, but a plot development had me scratching my head. Why did they have someone steal Danerys' dragons to get her to enter the House of the Undying instead of, as in the book, have her enter to seek answers?

Also, they turned Jeyne Westerling's character into Talisa from Volantis. Not sure why.
Seems kind of cheap and obvious to me, sort of TV-ish.

Man, lots of gore last night!

I love this show. It started out a bit gory for my taste, but all in all, I like it. My wife and I started watching the first season on the touchpad on a flight to Portland, and after the first 15 minuts realized people all around us probably thought we were watching porn.

Another excellent show, although of a different vein, is Breaking Bad, now in its 6th season. Crazy good. And some of the best character development ever. For Netflix-havers, this is a must see.

I gather you've read all the books. How does the show stack up in your opinion ?

I read 2-5, but I didn't read Game of Thrones, the first one. Season 2 pretty much encompasses the 2nd one, A Clash Of Kings. The script writers are sticking to the books pretty well within the constraints they have (budget, time). The plot turns get a bit complicated, and some of the vignettes are so complicated they'd be difficult to convey and make sense. The main story elements are there, though certain scenes are combined or left out for clarity or to move things along a bit quicker.

IMHO one of the best elements of the series is casting, especially Peter Dinklage as Tyrion, Lena Headey as Cersei, and whoever that guy is that plays Tywin Lannister.

Interested to see who is gonna play Ramsey Bolton, Roose Bolton's son. That character is one mean, nasty dude.

chumlie
05-16-2012, 03:44 PM
Wow!! Never thought Theon Greyjoy would get that nasty, still wondering if that really is Bran & Rickon that he burned to a crisp. I was thinking Bran's character would develope more.

newrival
05-16-2012, 04:58 PM
Yeah, I don't think it was Bran. Surely he would have had 4 bodies there. The plot sure is thickening, though.

drumminman
05-17-2012, 07:42 AM
Theon is really a petty, incompetant douche bag. He screws up everything he attempts.

Prepare for some major plot turns! Bwwaa-haa-haa-haa-haaaaah!

Episode 7 has several fairly significant deviations from A Clash of Kings. Some are understandable, some I don't get.

This season Danerys is coming off like a real Diva! And Cersei - those scense between her and Tyrion, and her and Sansa were actually touching. In the book she's more of a cold hearted, egotistical megalomaniac. I'm betting she'll revert to form.

Only two episodes left this season, with the last being two hours. What an ending it's gonna be!

In the previous episode he did whisper to Jon Snow that he should make sure the deaths of his comrades were not meaningless. That was a tell-tale suggestion.
It would be hard to fathom any other way about the fact that Jon Snow can let a stranger (Ygritte) go but kill a teacher that easily.

Glad it was apparent - in the books the crows were tracked by Rattle Bones and his lot. Qhorin realized they were all going to die as the Wildlings typically don't take prisoners and he talked the plot over with Jon. Jon would have lost the fight if not for Ghost as Qhorin was making it look a little too real and was a better swordsman!

Loved the Wight Walkers! And the dragons look really cool! Wonder where I could get one?

I've read 'em all except the first one, "Game of Thrones". Got to say I was a little (only a little) disappointed in some of the changes from the book at the end of last season. There's so much in the books that it'd be very difficult to make the series without combining characters, changing plot lines, etc.

Still a great series though. G.R.R. Martin is writing the 6th book - don't know when it'll be released.

A bit of trivia: the actress playing Robb Starks's wife Talisa (Oona Chaplin), is the grand daughter of Charlie Chaplin.

So far, this season has been boring as all hell for me. With what, 3 shows left....they better kick it up a notch or this series is getting kicked to the curb.

For me it has had some good moments, but the story is moving way too slow. And it's almost a year between seasons, so I'm starting to lose a little interest too.

I've been enjoying the season still. Gets hard to follow at times due to the lag between what is going on and the next episode. Even though moving a little slow I still think its a good show overall.

I find its better the second or third viewing. Miss alot the first time around.
