There are some for sale on the bay with optional warranty. What would it actually cover by square trade?

Contact Square Trade and ask them? Tell them you want it in writing, signed and dated by someone with authority to discuss contract details.

First guess: They'll say it covers everything...until you file a claim. Then they'll tell you it covers nothing.
