I'm about to rent an SPL meter. Can anyone point me to a www site on how to use one of these devices optimally to help setup the speakers? What settings should I use on the unit (fast responce, slow) etc etc.

Thanks, and hopefully the last of my irritating questions!

The Spl meter is a pretty simple tool to use and will make a huge difference in the sound of your system. Set it for Slow Response, C Weight. You'll need to take a look at your manual to determine what the reference level is, probably 70-80 db. Set the meter at 80 db to start with. When you enter the setup mode of your receiver you should cycle through the test tones manually and adjust the out put level of each speaker until they are all the same. Basically the meter should read "0" or right in the middle of the scale. Your sub level should be turned down a few db compared to the rest of the system, subs tend to run "Hot."

Do a search for "SPL" and "Calibration" and you'll find a lot more info.

Instead of renting why not buy the SPL, otherwise everytime you add a new component, or lose your settings with some type of power failure you will be renting again.

Just a suggestion, but I use mine all the time.
