y adapter for subwoofer cables and buzzing

I recently bought a pair of Lsi25 speakers and a harmon kardon avr330 reciever. The reciever only has one input for a subwoofer, so I got a y-adapter with 2 female and 1 male ends to hook up to my subwoofer cables from the speakers. The problem is that when I hook both speakers up, the sound quality goes way down and is muddy and not vary clear. Do I need a better connector, or is it a power limitation from the reciever?

Also, there is a low audible buzz coming from the subwoofers on the speakers. Is this normal? Is there some way to eliminate it?

I think you mean that the receiver only has one output for the subwoofer. The problem could be a ground loop hum, bad splitter, interference or incorrect settings on the receiver. Double check everything.
