After purchasing my hitachi 46" I am looking at upgrading my sony DVD player to one with progressive scan. I was originally looking at the nc685v as I have had good luck with sony so far. My question is would I benefit more from a higher end DVD player or is it really going to make any difference.

My current setup is a sony 2es receiver mated to a set of polk 6700 6.1 surrounds.

Do you have a price range? Denon has a tremendous advantage in this bracket, regardless of price.

It could be very dramatic. The picture quality between the Denon models(1600/2200/2900/5900) and the Sony DVP-999ES(TOTL), for example are alot different. The Denon does not have the problems that the Sony exhibits. Specifically chroma bug and de-interlacing problems.

As you can tell by my current setup I don't have a whole lot of money to spend. I would like to keep it in the 350 or less bracket.

I just bought the H/K DVD25 and am thoroughly impressed. Blows away the JVC it replaced in audio and video performance. It's a factory refurb, but with H/K that is not an issue to me. Total cost with shipping was about $180.

In your budget Denon DVD1600 would be an excelelent choice. I think cructhfield has them new at this price.

So for quality of picture and sound the denon would be a better choice than the sony?

H/K is releasing the DVD 31 in the near future same price as the 25 (MSRP) and it plays DVD-audio and has a base management system built in. also is now pixel by pixel progresive scan according to the review on the H/K site.
