Using 2 subs? Should I or shoudn't I?

I just bought a Polk PSW 202 Sub (found it on sale cheap), I still have my older, kinda cruddy Aiwa subwoofer I bought a few years ago. I'm thinking about using the Aiwa sub in line with my front satellites (Polk R 20's), and running the Polk sub through the sub-out jack on my processor, having 2 subs at once, using the Aiwa to provide the bass for the L and R channels, and using bass management to direct the rear L&R, center, and the “.1” to the Polk sub. In theory, this sounds ok but I'm afraid that I will degrade the overall sound by doing this, especially since the Aiwa's sound doesnt quite match the polk. Should I just retire the old Aiwa clunker and use BM to set all the speakers to small and let the Polk sub carry the load?

Only way to know if your gona like it is to try it both ways. Might take you a little time to fiddle around with settings sit back and listen to a few good CD's and a Movie or two In both configurations and base your final set up on your taste.
I would atleast try it both ways.

Thanks, I'll try it both ways, I'll probably move them around a hundred times too, everyone will think I'm nuts, but my room has some serious "dead" zones I guess you call them, a movement of even 6 inches makes a difference in some places!

Using multiple subs can improve performance(mostly loudness)

However you would be using a low end AIWA bass module with a better sub,in this case you may get too much upper bass information and not more low end.

I use multiple subs per system,for example my main Dynaudio system has three subs,three big subs(Aerial SW12,Velo HGS18 and Revel B15),my Klipsch Reference HT uses(ahem) SIX subs!Yes six three Sunfire(Sig.,Mark II and Junior)plus three Klipsch RSW's(10,12 and 15).

All set to work as one,not working against eachother.But as a close nit team.The bass is even and without limit,on LOTR FOTR the cave scene the floor and walls move,the output is scary when needs to be.

And with my main PC I use Polk's PSW404 and 505 plus two Carver Knight Shadow subs!Again its quite a PeaSee experience.
I respect the volume control :D

Just be sure the subs dont cancel each other.As you can have the best subs and ruin the performance.

After getting both subs set up I noticed something odd about my recievers bass managment. Iended up connecting the old AIWA sub to the lfe output, and set its crossover to the lowest setting 60 hz, and connected the polk sub through the main speakers. When I turned off the aiwa sub through the bass managment, it did not direct the sounds to the mains. they are set as large, but its just like it does away with that channel all together when you turn it off. Anyway it sounds better with both of them, each is about 2 feet out from the corners or the room, the sound was too Boomby when I placed them there, but its more practical to put them away from the corners. Should i place them close to the back wall or move them out away a bit????

Maybe this will be the start of collections of subs for me too!

Well, I guess this question has already been answered. You need to realize; A powered sub is uni-directional.

I don't think two would be better than one.

Bottom line ... Get a good sub thats not "boomy".

No,no subs in the car.When I listen I do not want to cover any noises,I want to relax.Car audio systems with large subs are for show only.

Lights do not flicke,and its not bass heavy as some might think.Just ample bass,even at extreme output levels. :)
