Y-splitter on sub with...

I've noticed that the Paradigm PW-2200 has a mono RCA input or whatever it's called, correct me if I'm wrong. Will it be O.K. if I use a Y-splitter with this sub and have the other RCA plug just hanging there?

As long as it doesn't touch anything, no problem. My favorite sales guy tells me that most if not all subs will perform better if a Y-connector is used. I don't recall the technical reasons for it, maybe Doc will chime in.

But what if the amplifier on the sub is not capable of a Y-spiltter and only has the mono input? In this case you cannot use a Y-splitter, right?

it has a "left" and "right(mono)" plugs. It can be used either with a y splitter into both inputs or just plug the single cable into the right jack. I think Spec says output increases 3 dB with y-splitter, so you can trust that if you'd like.

Even if it actually only had a mono jack, your question, whether or not you could use a y-splitter and just leave one end dangling and the other end plugged in? Why the hell would you do that, just plug the end of the cable into the mono jack you dont need a y-splitter.

The thing is that I already have a Y-splitter that I was using with my previous sub. The new sub that will be replacing it only has the right (mono) input, it doesn't have the red and white or if you prefer left and right.

It will be O.K.

but.... I don't see any need for your y-splitter at all, unless you're gonna daisy chain a second sub.

1) I do think the new p-digm has the left and right inputs, what makes you think it doesn't

2) you're either confused, or your confusing me. I wish the p-digm site had a manual/schematic, but it doesn't. Either way I'm sure the p-dime will integrate well into your system with the cables that you already have, so just snap some pictures when you get the sub if you are still confused

Exactly.

The single input jack is more than likely the unfiltered connection, for use with the sub-out from the AVR.

Regardless, I can't imagine the Para not have conventional filtered L/R jacks also, but you wouldn't want to use them if you are going from the AVR, where the signal is already filtered.

Are you talking about the newer version? Because my 2200 has L and R low level inputs. And I do use a Y splitter.

Thank you everyone for there response. I only assumed that the Paradigm PW-2200 had the mono input by looking at the picture of the amp on the site, but note that it is not clear. I also noticed that on some of Paradigms other subs, they only had the mono input.

I guess I will just have to wait till I get it.

Bad idea. The L/R inputs are more than likely filtered. Even if you crank the filter control all the way up, using the single unfiltered input is still preferable.

Are you saying that I should go out and buy another subwoofer cable and not use my Y-splitter?

I agree that unfiltered is the way to go Doc (Thats what I use) but I dont remember the pw2200 having an unfiltered input. Just the L&R RCA inputs and the speaker level inputs. I will probably be going to my Paradigm dealer tomorrow so I can find out then if know one else knows.

Edit: Gerald, you have a mono sub cable going into a y-splitter right? If so then there is no need to buy a new cable either way unless the splitter is attached to the cable.

Just use the mono RCA cable from your AVR to your SUB.

I wouldn't use a splitter with a dangling connector as it could pick up noise & hum - but if it doesn't and it sounds ok, you could use it. Of course a good shielded single-RCA cable shouldn't run you more than $9, so why not buy one?
