The ideal enclosure for DB12's is .88 cubic foot. This INCLUDES the subwoofer displacement, which is to say, you make the enclosure to .88cft and dont worry about the sub.

Yes you are completely correct.. these are sealed enclosure subs only, and will perform many times better if installed such. They do operate ported but you must underpower them and have the box ported perfectly to match your install AND the resonant freq of the subs themselves.. In short, after it is all done meticulously... you end up with less spl.. so sealed only.

I once ran 2 db12's and pushed 127spl in my car with them in a free crappy ported box that has 2x 1.4cft volume.. using 150 watts a peice.. So if it is right, it will perform much better.. they are great subs, and hold up well.

.88 cu.ft sounds about right from what i recall. any idea what the volume should be less the woofer -- meaning installing the sub inverted with the cone facing in and basket exposed?

this is a great sub, i was running about 250w previously and it sounded awesome. i just have a new car and need to build a new enclosure.

250? try 350+... mucho gooder. boom boom bitty boom

lets see what my driver displacement shit chart says...

well now the DX 12 and DB 12 are just about the same structure size and all that jazz... pretty close in design and what not, but as far as size goes... i think you could put a DB in a DX's pair of jeans and no body woudl know the difference.

that being said.. i've got displacement for the DX 12 listed at 0.062 cubic feet.

so 0.88 minus 0.062 = 0.8138 cubic feet.

that answer u're Q?
