Hey everyone, sorry for the downtime. It was essential that we update some hardware and it turned out to be a painful and aggravating experience.
You might notice that some of your posts are missing -- that's because we had to load a previous backup of data.
If you have any questions, email me at webmaster@polkaudio.com.
Thanks,
~Justin

it looks like a backup from 1/22/04 was used....so is it safe to assume, we won't see pior postings from 1/23/04 to 1/27/04?

Is there any chance of recovering the lost posts? There was alot of information lost in the car audio forums from users who asked questions.
Should have just become an engineer Justin... ;)
Sorry to hear of the growing pains. Im sure you'll pull through just fine!

All the Polk Audio - Texas Gathering photos are gone also, :)
I see that all the forum junkies are immediately online and checking the forum, like freakin' vampires and heroin addicts.

Just out of curiosity, have you now changed your upgrade plans to include **make a new backup before proceeding!!!** ?
geralopez

Why the Webmaster didn't make a backup before to update the hardware?
mmmm... I think it was not a programmed task, it smell that was a hardware crash and was an "obligated update". When a server is going to be turn down normally you back-up all your files. mmmm... probably the hard disk had a failure and no body did the daily backup.
It is better to said the true than to give other excuses...
Well anyway... it will be a bad experienece for every body but its not the end.
Be happy

Coming from another network engineer. Cut them a break!
Regardless of weather it was an upgrade or a downed server, bringing up a new server can be a huge pain in the butt.
Thanks for your hard work Polk!
We appreciate it.

I wasn't trying to come down on them or anything. I hadn't thought that it might not have been a planned downing, but the title "Server Upgrade" tells me that it was planned (unless theres some sarcasm that was missed). I, too, am in IT, and I know that sometimes things go wrong. That's why before you do any kind of server upgrade, it's good to run the backup routines. No, we didn't lose anything critical, but some information has been lost and that's never fun.
In short, it's no big deal..... I know a webmaster who accidentally deleted half of the user database while doing a forum upgrade. Everyone recovered eventually.....

If that happened in my group I would not be the 1 losing a job.

Backups are the key. Back-up your hard drive folks to CD. You'll be glad you did.

When I bought my Hewlett Packard burner for my Gateway PC, it came with software by Veritas called "HP Record Now". I can burn MP3, files, and CD to CD copy. No problems here.

Did you register the program?
You may want to try another program if Roxio gives a fight for not forkin over the dough ;)

I know this Board can use one ( You know who you are ) I think that it would be funny as hell to see what the system would suggest for the crap that Ganzo types out........Probably some error message like "TYPE WITH TWO HANDS YOU PERVERT"

Put yourself in his shoes. Now, how would you feel when reading a garbage post like that?
Ganzo is very good natured about his typing/spelling, but come on now, you're just being mean.

No, it's true man. Ganzo types like someone talking with a mouth full of biscuits and gravy. It's not his mental state though, you need to understand that. The guy is brilliant, he just has cloven hooves instead of hands.
Don't worry guys, I'm working on the Ganzo Decoder Ring v2.0 RIGHT now, v1.0 sold out in record time, even with the inherit bugs.
Cheers,

Thanks guys!
Yes, not to go into too much boring detail, but I did back up everything before the scheduled work, and there was a problem with ghosting the drive during the hard drive transfer. To just GET IT UP (no laughter please) I made the decision to just restore the most recent tape backup of the server which is performed weekly. I thought I covered all my bases by making a ghosting of the current hard drive, but sometime unexpected hardware failures happen -- and piss me off :)
