Album of the week:

The Punch Brothers - Antifogmatic

Caught this band live a couple of weeks ago and was absolutely blown away, so I picked up this, their second album on the way out. Quite unlike any band I've ever heard, bluegrass instrumentation but very progressive arrangements and great lyrics/vocals. Check it out! Chris Thile is a genius.

hearingimpared, which little feat album? first self-titled? I've only heard the first two, but quite simply some of the best rock records I've ever heard. RIP Lowell George

One of the all time great honky tonk singers IMO. Tear in your bear country tunes simply don't get much better than those classic cuts by Gary Stewart. I suggest picking up the twofer release of his albums Out of Hand/Your Place or Mine (http://www.amazon.com/Out-Hand-Your-Place-Mine/dp/B00005BGKF/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1291495379&sr=8-6) - not a weak track in the whole bunch.

It is pretty good quality given the age of the material. The picture and sound quality are very respectable. At times I am amazed at the sound, actually...

I became familiar with audio engineer Cookie Morenco while reading the credits on some Windham Hill Records jackets. She went on to found Blue Coast Records. Her first release is called the Blue Coast Collection and it lives up to the mission statement "exceptional acoustic recordings."

While you won’t find real famous folks on it, they are talented musicians with good songs. Very easy listening with outstanding sound quality. I'll stay tuned for future releases.

Available in standard or hi-resolution downloads (DSD, 96kHz) or via mail with SACD. The hi-res downloads are kind of pricey (96kHz @ $40, DSD @ $50). Amazon has the Gold CD/SACD for $27/$30. The BCR site has some free downloads and samplers. Amazon has samplers on the SACD page.

Great link Scomp.I downloaded a free flac file of Alex DeGrassi playing a 39 string guitar. It sounds quite good ,I will certainly be looking further into their catalog. I have a few Windham Hill releases from the 90's that were very well done so Cookie may have been involved with those.

^ Good, post Peter Green compilation...

Me? The Grass Roots - All Time Greatest Hits

Surprisingly good... 'Midnight Confessions" is the one hit that I immediately associate with them, but there are more legit here than either I remembered them having, or did not connect with them, e.g., "Let's Live for Today", "Where Were You When I Needed You", and “Temptation Eyes”.

Nothing too heavy here… nice remastering with borderline stunning SQ on a couple tracks (most notably "Let's Live for Today").

Speaking of Peter Green(one of the original MIA FLEETWOOD MAC GUITARISTS')this is his only 'solo' album that I have,,I understand he has put out a few more since his release some time ago--for so many years he was "absent",at least on our plane,,too bad too, excellent musican.

Kate Bush's debut album was released when she was 19 years old; she had written some of the songs when she was only 15. The album opens with whale song, which leads into the first track, "Moving", inspired by her dance teacher, Lindsay Kemp. "The Man with the Child in his Eyes" and "Wuthering Heights' on side one are stellar.

Wonderful artist...great album.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51PXrliLmqL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Her sophomore album...and there is no sophomore slump with this one. On the title track the unmistakable voice of Vince Gill is immediately apparent...helping it to become the strongest cut on the CD. This album definitely continues with the "New Traditional Country" sound that Dwight Yoakam help her develop in her first album.

The only thing missing is Sara singing to me in person in the place of the gear rack...

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Look before you snicker. The prospect of a cutting-edge concert DVD from a '70s rocker who's mostly been MIA during the intervening decades might seem baffling to all but his staunchest fans. But Peter Frampton's particular 15 minutes of fame were rooted in his sturdy prowess as a live player, and that crowd-pleasing instinct kicks into gear quickly on Live in Detroit. The expatriate British guitarist, singer, and songwriter cheerfully admits that this well-shot, crisply recorded concert from Pine Knob amphitheater is banking on the lack of any video companion to his epochal live double album, Frampton Comes Alive, which broke sales records following its 1976 release. Accordingly, Detroit serves up a set list featuring the earlier set's high points and preserving the front man's affable, enthusiastic rapport.
Those virtues won't entirely neutralize the initial shock of seeing the former rock heartthrob as he crowds 50. The shoulder-length locks that made him a poster boy (and supplied a then-chic androgyny) are gone, his hair now close- cropped and white, and he wears small wire-rim glasses that reinforce a comparatively clerical look, even in dark jeans and T-shirt. But when Frampton and his current quartet launch into old arena workhorses like "Baby (Something's Happening)," or signature hits like "Show Me the Way" and "Baby I Love Your Way," he shows his singing and lead guitar playing are both unchanged.

In short, meat-and-potatoes musicianship, an eager-to-please affection for his audience, and that archetypal song book of '70s radio favorites all play to Frampton's strengths and to his audience's expectations, right up to those talkbox effects that sounded anachronistic until Cher dusted them off for her Europop-inflected comeback. For DVD music fans of a certain age, that translates to a canny mix of nostalgia and show-biz professionalism. --Sam Sutherland

Kate Bush - The Kick Inside.....

Wonderful artist...great album.

I've been meaning to tell you I'm a Kate Bush fan. I have all her studio albums up to '89 on vinyl, along with two EP's, the compilation and some LP singles (including Cloudbusting, a 33 and a 45RPM pressing). My fav album of hers is

Hounds of Love was her first album completed in the studio she had built.

My fav cover is The Dreaming.

Side One - Track 3 - "Partytown"

Sometimes...just sometimes...This is how I feel.

Gotta love the early 80's

I got sick of my job, sick of my wife
Sick of my future and sick of my life
I packed up my car and I got some gas
And told ev'rybody they could kiss my ass
I'm goin' to Party town

I wanna party down
I wanna have some fun
I wanna fool around
I'm goin' to Party town

The sun comes up, the sun goes down
Doesn't really matter in Party town
They go all day and they go all night
They keep on goin' until they get it right
Right here in Party town
They really party down
Man it's a party town
You know they all got their own
And they pass it all around

Well I'm burnin' like a blowtorch in my prime
Ev'rybody here is a friend of mine
I met a little girl a couple shooters ago
She's teachin' me ev'rything I don't know
About Party town
They really party down
You know they love to ball
They do it in the hall
Right here in Party town

We're so cool
You got any? Yeah
Meet you in the john
Woo hoo hoo I sure feel good!
Some Party!
