In case you're wondering what this was, it was a streaming webcast of a live concert, in honor of what would have been Jerry Garcia's 70th birthday. The concert included a pretty amazing group of musicians led by Bob Weir, Donna Jean Godcheaux, Mike Gordon and many others. They played well over 4 hours of Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia songs. I only caught the last hour or so. I can't recall ever hearing better sound quality from an internet stream. Here's a story with the setlist and photos. This is supposed to be available later today on Yahoo! Music. I hope that they preserve the sound quality of the original stream. Guys, we just got some terrible news here at work. One of the guys that works here just got killed in a motorcycle accident. He was only about 24 years old, and had just got the bike a few weeks ago. He was a beginning rider, and was out riding with a couple of other guys that work here as well. He moved here from Ohio a couple of years ago to come to work for the company, and he was a very nice young man. I worked with him when I was on the night shift, and he was a very nice and likeable guy. This is tough to digest...

I have been listening to some of their studio cd's lately, and man what a difference. The live recordings I have sound AMAZING, and the studio stuff sounds like their playing in a box, or another room. I guess I never really "heard" compression before, but if that is what this is...I see why folks search out higher quality recordings.

I almost can't listen to their studio albums anymore. Good thing I have all these live boots :cheesygrin:
