Speaker setup question, LSi9s, LC80i, Receiver, etc...

Hello,

I recently purchased a set of LSi9 speakers along with the LSi center speaker. Due to the 'ol wifes request that we don't have speakers everywhere around the den downstairs I have decided to look into the LC80is for the rear speakers.

Now I was going to use the Denon 2803 receiver to push this, but I read in some posts below that receiver doesn't really do the speakers justice?

The room is about 12' wide by 18' long. I guess I have 2 questions. Will the LC80is work well for rear channel speakers, and will the Denon 2803 do the system justice?

I'm really not a huge audiophile so I don't need the perfect system. Thanks for any help. :)

I'm not familiar with Denon's ... but the manual says speakers with 6 - 16 ohms can be connected.

LSi's are 4 ohms ...

You MAY find the receiver going into protect mode from time to time.

The Denon avr2803 is the wrong choice to run the Lsi's.Skip Denon completely.

you really need to look at a diferent receiver. Ther's nothing wrong with Denon, but it just won't be able to drive the Lsi speakers very well. It's not about being an audiophile, it's about using the right tool for the job. The Lsi speakers are power hungry and will suck the life right out of the Denon. You should find a receiver that is rated for driving a 4 ohm speaker, and remember that you can do more harm by under powering a speaker with a wimpy amp than you can by using a bigger and more powerful amp than you would think you'd ever need.

So the wife doesn't want too many speakers........uhm.......Ask her if you can have as many speakers as she has pairs of shoes.;) ;) ;)

The LC 80's are also 4 ohm so you would be setting up an even greater challenge for the 2803.

I really see only one possible way for your rig to work and that is if you have a sub to handle the low end and you run all speakers "small".

How is the 2803 getting along with your LSi9's?

Thanks for pointing out that the Denon 2803 doesn't support 4 ohms. I thought it did... I looked around a bit and ended up calling Outlaw Audio's pre-sales support line. One of their techs talked to me about 20 mins about the setup. They are coming out with a new receiver this summer so I might just wait a few months for that. I know that Rotel and NAD have some too, but they seem pretty expensive.

I believe the 2803 has a safety mechanism that will shut off the receiver before it powers 4ohm speakers for any amount of time, and they will sound hollow.
