CD Player purchase. Did I do alright?

Just bought a Rotel RCD-955AX single disc unit from someone at work for $50 cdn. He's offering me some entry level Audio Quest or Kimber Kable interconnects for $25.

It's 10 yrs old but he assures me it's in great shape. I understand that the DAC's may not be on par with today's models but I'm pretty sure it'll be an upgrade from my pioneer 6-pak changer. ;)

Anyways, can I get my fellow polkie's opininons on the interconnects and whether I should pick one or the other up?

Congrats. You can't go wrong for $50.

Not sure which models he's offering. I have no experience with Kimber and only have the Audio Quest Diamondback. The RCA's are silver plated and it sounds slightly brighter than the other IC's I've tried. I think you'll be happy with either one.

It's probably the Kimber PBJ interconnect. if it is, $25 is a pretty good deal. If you don't like it you can probably sell it for $40 at audiogon or $50+ if it's a full meter. I'd find out what the model is and check audiogon for prices...

I ended up getting both cables. One pair is Kimber Kable PBJ's. The other is from Audioquest. It doesn't appear to ressemble anything from their present or archived line. Is this one of their earliest models?

Those were sold under the G-String (or sometimes G-Snake) name. They were Audioquest's entry level interconnect. I bought some .5 meter G-Strings locally about a year and a half ago and they ran about $17 a pair.

It's pretty hard to stump this bunch over here! Once the receiver comes in, I'm gonna try both the kimber and audioquest out to see which one I like better.
