View Full Version : Opinions on Possible Center Channel Upgrade

I was wondering if I could get some recommendations on a center channel upgrade. Currently I have a CS350LS center channel running with 2 pairs of SDA2B's for Front and Rear. After adding the second pair of SDA2B's I noticed that the Center Channel does not quit match sonically to the front and rears. I never really noticed this before when I was using Lx/fx's for the rears.
So the question I have, does anybody know of a center channel that would match better, or would a person be better off trying to make a center channel themselves with the sl2000 tweeter?
Thanks for your help,
Gary

Member 'Burdette' made a center channel with an SL2000, 2 6503 drivers, and a Monitor 8 crossover. If you search under his user name, and maybe the word 'center' you'll probably find the post.
You could always look at a single (or a pair) of Monitor 5's.

Russ

Thanks for the info russman.
I will see if I can find that thread. If I build my own, the only thing I am not sure about is how to magnetically shield it. Does anybody have any suggestions.
I have in the past thought about picking up a pair of older polks with the sl2000 tweeter off of ebay, but I have yet to spend the time to figure out how to shield them. I have all the tools to make a nice new enclosure since wood working is one of my favorite hobbies.
Thanks,
Gary

Check
http://www.partsexpress.com/
Search for "bucking" or "shielding" magnets.

Polk sells the magnets as well... About $40 each after discount if memory serves.

The one's at PE are somewhere around a buck each.

Parts Express Ferrite Bucking magnets sell for between $0.80 for a 3.5oz. magnet to $1.83 for a 19.5oz. one. Granted these are supposedly overstocks selling for 50% of "retail".... Maybe Polk's are those audiophile magnets...

Thanks for all the information Guys.
I have a friend that works at a local shop that sells polk. I am going to see if he will let me take home and demo a CSi5 to see if it matches better then the CS350LS that I have. If it does not, I guess I will be heading out to ebay to start scoping out some deals :-)
